Alright, so it's 2 in the morning on a monday night and I'm anticipating going out and buying the sixth Harry Potter book the next day. I'm online, suddenly this bastard that I happen to have called friend at one point IMs me with the biggest spoiler to the book and a link to a YTMND site that contains said spoiler in spades. In other words, one of the big things I was looking forward to this summer has just been completely ruined.

This happen to you? I hate it when important stuff that makes me happy is ruined like this. Jeez...

The thing is, there's nothing I can do in return, both out of nature of character (I dislike revenge on a whole) and because even if I wanted to, he's the type of person who doesn't give a shit about anything, including other people's feelings. So... What do you do to deal with someone like that? I just... He really, really, really didn't need to do that. I kinda feel like crying, I know he made one of my closest friends cry already. I can't stand that, especially that he made someone else cry, if there's one thing I hate to see, it's people making other people suffer.

This happens every time a new HP is released. Typically my solution is to be one of the first to read it, staying up all night and reading all day, and being the first of my friends to know what happens. That way nothing gets ruined for me. And I make sure not to spoil it for my friends either.
But I have yet to even get a copy of this book, so I'm getting problem. People saying things they should keep to themselves if they had any moral at all about not ruining it for everyone else.
I just do my best to ignore it.

he's just an asshole for doing that... has he done similar stuff in the past? if so, why would you still have his IM or, if you never did, you should consider exclusive mode for your buddy list...

but yeah, i hate it when people spoil things... i am one who prefers NOT to know the ending, regardless whether the work as a whole is one of the best ever or just a piece of shit. doesn't matter...

in terms of dealing with people spoiling stuff...i'd tell them I don't appreciate it; if that fails, i try to ignore them as much as I can... the best way to deal with people from spoiling stuff is to not be there at all

Yeah that happened to me with the third Harry Potter movie. It was Dracoon's brother and a friend of his that decided to talk about a few plot twists and the ending one night when they got bored. Unfortunately I just happened to be sitting in the same room. I still watched the movie but it wasn't as good as it could have been.

And as for your so called friend. If he really doesn't care about others feelings and you really want to get back at him. Then you probably have to either destroy something he loves or beat him up. Or both.

Your friend reminds me of someone that I know. I won't mention names. My so called friend thinks he's better than anyone which I really hate those kinds of people. Anyway, does your friend know that you dislike revenge? If he does, that's real bad because he'll just keep ruining everything for you and your other friends because he knows that you can't do anything about it. I agree with Possessed with this one, you need to destroy something he loves or beat him up. Do you know what likes? By the way, don't beat him up unless there's no one else watching or else you'll get in serious trouble just to let you know.

I have a friend who doesn't like revenge. He's a pretty big guy. But he has rarely actually beat any one up. I say 'rarely' because there was one time, but any way. I know that if any one did do anything to him it would hurt him more to get revenge than to be made fun of for not doing anything. So naturally I'd do it for him. That's just what friends do.

And for any one who wants to know that one time he did beat some one up was sweet. There's this guy making fun of somebody on their birthday. So he grabs him by the neck and lifting him a clean foot into the air slams him against a wall. This is with one hand. Then the birthady boy comes over and starts punching the guy he's got pinned to the wall. Is that great or what.

At the time, I wasn't going to read the new Potter book, and the day that it came out, I an some random IM from someone, telling me something about the book. I'm not sure if it was real or not, and I don't want to mention it here, especially since I'm trying to forget about it.

But that's nothing.

Long story short, my friends told me that that night, my boyfriend would ask me to marry him. Yep, nice way to ruin something, huh?

although, some girls do get excited about it and wait to see when it happens... but then again, that is something i see in movies so I dunno about real life... and your relationship history was never smooth sailing either if I recall correctly...

anyways, if something is spoiled for me, it typically doesn't linger around for long--unless I'm involved in going through a story; then well, that is pretty much killed for me... i remember before I used to read FAQs and walkthroughs when I played the SNES final fantasies. However, 5 years later, I really don't remember many of the secrets and vaguely the storyline so it isn't so bad...

I suggest you read the book regardless. Who knows, you might find something really cool that wasn't mentioned in the spoilers.
Woo...Harry is yoda's long lost son...holy monkey! That would explain his jedi like abilities! Talk about spoilers!
(thats not true by the way. it was intended for example purposes only)

Oh, good. I was hoping that wasn't real.
I keep hearing the same spoilers, it's getting old. But I'm still going to read the book. Just shield my eyes from the interweb while I do it.

That would have been hilarious. It's too bad it isn't true.
