The results are in!

And the winner of the Sidney Crosby Sweepstakes is:

Spoiler:
The Pittsburgh Penguins

Afterthoughts anyone?

I personally think that Buffalo and the Rangers should have gotten higher picks considering the fact that they, like Columbus (#6) and Pittsburgh had 3 balls in the bin. Conspiracy, anyone?

Just because you had three balls doesn't mean you had an automatic shot of having a top pick. Just meant the odds were better but that's what a weighted lottery is.

On the contrary, Montreal only had one ball and we were fortunate enough to grab the #5 pick in what looks to be a good draft, Crosby aside. So I'm quite content with today's results.

Lenophis: Sorry, but to me shootouts are an extremely bad way to decide a game. Deciding who gets an extra point shouldn't come down to a crapshoot.

I'm very happy with the draft. I, for one, did not expect Minnesota to be top 5, so I'm quite happy with the draft.

Well, it's the best method to do so. I would like for them to keep playing, but when you get double, triple OT games that go until 3 am then have a day game at noon. The shootout is a good comprimise, imo. Besides, the double and triple OT games are still gonna happen for the playoffs.

Double and triple OT only happens in the playoffs though. Thankfully that STAYS since it's perfectly all right to stay up watching a game for 6 hours once a year.

I would have just preferred if they kept the old system. I understand they want to win fans back but we'll see how popular it is... plus it's a total crapshoot since it's only going to be three skaters a side, not five.

isn't it 5 on 5 for 60 minutes, 4 on 4 for 5 minutes, 3 on 3 for another 5 minutes, and then a shootout?

shootouts? you don't lie shootouts? why is that?

You see, he'd rather there be ties so 30 out of 80 games turn out exactly like the 2002 MLB All Star Game.

Slight difference: ties are a result of two teams being unable to settle their differences in 65 minutes. The All-Star game was glorified Little League, get-everyone-into-the-game strategic dumbassery.

neo: That was a proposed rule change but the rules committee turned it down. They turned down quite a few things actually (such as 3 points for a win/20 team playoffs).

I for one would think that the shootout would be cool.

Get rid of the red line would be good, too.

Buh-bye LeClair and Amonte from Philly, likely meaning that Primeau and Roenick stay put. Only move of the first day of the buyout period, but I have a feeling we're in for a flood come Monday.

The red line is now gone...although, it would be weird just seeing a circle in the center of rink... however, the two line pass problem would no longer be a problem anymore if you don't see it

the sharks pick #12--better than the 25+ they would have received....

I thought they were going to leave the line in, but not use it for the purposes of two-line passes.

well..discounting doesn't mean removal so we'll just have to see--i would prefer the line to still be there even though it is meaningless to the point of just a division of the ice

The line will probably be VISIBLE on the ice, but won't have an effect aside from being an indication of where the center of the rink is, more or less.

Personally, I don't like the Olympic-year All Star games being cancelled... Then there are the rumors about JR being traded from the Flyers, and the Commish losing his job by year's end.... Que, cera cera...
