I hit a major stumbling block. My infinite probability drive that I was using to code the majickallbuild of Dolwin has been stolen by some big spikey turtle. He apparently mistook the drive for somebody name "Peach". I am currently trying to get to his castle. However, rumor has it that the castle that's a few miles away is not the castle that the infinite improbability drive is in. I'll just have to see if the is true.

Awesome. Commander Keen was supposedly made on a computer too. That means if we can find the editor for that, we just need to hack the offsets and it can edit MP2! Yay!

This is interesting... I actually had a dream about something like this... I clicked a button and it brought up a list of light crystals/bubbles and it was all cool and stuff...

I can't wait to see where this is going.

Well I decided I'd get on this project too and it turns out that there are a huge number of "lost levels"! By putting in a number from 0 to 4,294,967,295 in the "current room" byte in RAM (I did have it but I lost it) you can get a ton of lost rooms. Most are garbled up and ccrash, but someone should make a hack where it includes these rooms because that would be cool.

BRAEKTHROUGH

I found the graphics! Since it's such an amazing discovery, I'm posting a BMP.

There's some slight compression, but it's possible to see the arm cannon mesh (small oval) and the body textures (big oval). It looks like a slightly modified RLE compression. I'll try to crack the format tomorrow.

Also, can you see how it says "Retro Studios" above the small oval?

HOLY SHIT

I've found out that Metroid Prime 2 was programmed using the game Super Mario Metroid Prime 2 Coding Land on the gameboy! (Previously unreleased)

So.......basically...we could run a Game Cube emulator on a gameboy pocket!!

Not an advance or ds tho. that would be stupid. not even colour.

That's amazing! But I think your ROM is corrupt. They aren't the right colours.

BREAKTHROUGH!

I just found out that if youput your disk face down on a record player for a few minutes and try to play it, THE GAME CRASHES! I'm already designing a patching system based on this concept.

You fools! If you don't re-rout the subspace manifold through the main plasma cortex the ship's steering will go clammy just long enough for you to curse your luck before the phase reflux capacitor goes sub-nuclear and the entire ship folds in on itself in a quantum relativity bubble! And then you're all going to corrupt your ROMs! Newbs.

Good news, people! I hacked offest 0x04B56F, and apparently, it redoes the textures and polygons for Samus' body and you can see her as the Justin Bailey outfit. OMG!
See?

I'm making a graphics hack just for this!

I'll start work on an editor generator program.

The program idea is pretty simple.
Generate all possible 1 byte values, and output each in a different file.
Generate all possible 2 byte values, and output each in a different file.
Generate all possible 3 byte values, and output each in a different file.
...
...
...
Generate all possible N byte values, and output each in a different file.

Here, N can increase without bound.

Now, simply attempt to execute each generated file.
If you take N large enough, you have a pretty good chance of generating a Metroid Prime 2 editor. As a bonus, you will also generate every existing program and file of size N bytes or less!

The only negative is that it has unlimited space and time requirements, so it could actually take forever to generate, and use up every bit of storage in the Universe.

I think I just cracked the arm-cannon info!!

There is some address in the ROM, where if I mess with it (I forgot where this is) I can change the beams! It's so simple!

1 is Beam cannon
2 Is Dark Beam
3 is Light Beam

For example, by changing this number to somewhere between 1336 and 1338, I can use the EXACT HYPER BEAM that was in SM! Oh man, to think that the coding was used all the way from Super Metroid, holy jeez!

Not only that, but if I put it in a bit higher than 665, or perhaps around 100, (Maybe 101?) I can change the beam to the standard beam in the old NES game! Holy jeez! Having a beam that shoots only about 5 feet out in a 3D game is hard to use!

Oh yeah, I've also randomly run across the Fusion Suit. To think that it would be THIS easy to crack the info in MP2! Dang!

Oh, whoops... Sorry, guys. The ROM I linked was actually "A Boy And His Blob." So all this work you've been doing was for the wrong ame. I've corrected it, now. The link now points to the correct ROM.

Maybe someone could make it so the space pirates have hats with like, different abillities. Like one could have a pointy hat and plays with juggling balls and when you get close he juggles them to you and you have to juggle them back to beat him (like three or for times so it wouldn't be to easy.) It wouldn't be that hard cause you wouldn't have to change his name at all, just the discription of him. I don't know what you could do for other hats, you'll have to figure out some other ideas (even if there not as good as mine, you could just use them less in the game.) If, like, you used ASM you could do it like real fast like.

404 Makes whatever it hits dissapear and go missing. I think it's glitched.

Actually, I lost the rest of my notes.

But I definately had some.

So you should put me in the credits for the editor 'kay thanks.

I already cracked the polygon data (they use 512-bits signed integers for XYZ coordinates) for most of the levels 3 months ago. Actually the whole game is just polygon data, as the textures are also simulated by small polygons. The music is also stored as polygons.

Instead of releasing a level editor, my plan is to convert Metroid Prime 2 to an isometric view, using voxels. I choose isometric because it's very popular, as people wont stop telling me how it was a great choice for Metroid Cubed.
