Well, I finally bought this game (so, I own it again!). Got it for $25.

Anyways, I just had a simple question, is there some kind of pattern to leveling up? I've noticed, with every level up there seems to be something that will Boost More than usual. Most of the time, stats will increase by 1, while HP seems to increase by 4, usually. However, sometimes I notice going for Pow, or Magic, will have a greater effect than usual, being greater than the other option. For instance, say I just leveled up.

Pow
Attack - 20 - 24
Defense - 19 - 22

HP
HP - 58 - 64

Magic
Magic A - 20 - 21
Magic B - 21 - 22

Pow, goes up a lot more than it usually would, by 1 for each stat.

Say, I leveled up again, and now the options are:

Pow
Attack - 24 - 25
Defense - 22 - 23

HP
HP - 64 - 68

Magic
Magic A - 21 - 24
Magic B - 22 - 25

Here, magic goes up more than it usually would, instead of 1 for each stat.

So, everytime someone levels up it seems you "should" pick one of the options, the better one, so it basically seems like there could be some kind of pattern, or if you've just noticed this and follow it, your characters will turn out to be very strong.

Did that make any sense at all?

I've never actually played this game, but I was able to locate an FAQ at GameFAQs with the title "Level Up Bonus FAQ". You can find it here .

I'm assuming you're talking about what it calls "Choose-able Level Up Bonuses". Looking at the chart, I can see what you mean about one stat increasing more than usual at each levelup, but I can't exactly make out any specific pattern to how it works

The only thing I can really recommend is to use that FAQ to determine what the best choice would be for each levelup you get

Yeah, doesn't seem like there's an actual pattern, but it definitely looks like there's always a "Best Option" to go with. I don't think I've ever done this the last time I played this game a few times, so I guess we'll see how it turns out.

Personally, I like to ALWAYS add Hp except for the times when the Hp only goes up by one, in which case I take pow.

In the end, my guys have 247-249 Hp with sick attack!

I obviously got all the special armors and weapons though...

Lazy Shell (armor) & Lazy Shell (weapon) can be found at Rose Town one you give the gardener the seed and fertilizer. Seed is found in bean valley and fertilizer is in Nimbus Land (you have to walk off the cloud on an invisible floor somewhere on the right of Nimbus land, only works after you beat Valentina)

Super Suit & Attack Scarf can be found in Monstro Town. Talk to the brown dog after making 30 super jumps in a row to get the attack scarf and 100 super jumps in a row to get super suit!

Frying Pan can be bought at Moleville by the treasure hunter after you beat the axem rangers (I think)

Star Gun, Super Cymbals, Drill Claw can be founs in Bowser's castle after finishing certain doors.

Safety Badge & Safety Ring can be found in sunken ship. You get the badge after beating the enemy in the box and the ring in a secret room that is underwater behind some barrels.

Jynx Belt is the reward you get for beating Jynx 3 times.

Other Secret Items:

Quartz Charm ( doesn't do anything ) is the reward for beating culex (he's harder than smithy). To find him, buy a shiny stone in moleville and then try to open the sealed door in monstro town. The trick to beating him is having the lazy shell (armor).

Troopa Pin (also useless) is the reward for climbing the hill at land's end very fast!

Sheep Attack (freaking awesome) is a bit complicated... Give Peach the B tub ring and let her use the mystery egg a few times until it becomes lamb's lure and use that 24 times (I think) until it becomes sheep attack. Sheep attack kills all minor enemies but no coins or exp. are given to you.

Bright Card (unimportant) is in Booster tower. Talt to the juggler after you save Peach from booster in marrymore and win his game many times (try not to make mistakes because then it gets longer). He gives you the bright card which will allow you to enter the casino. Go to bean valley and find the gold chomp in a pipe, kill him and stand in the left corner and jump 3 times. Then you will find the casino.

Star Egg (not worth your time) is in the casino. Win in the game "look the other way" 100 times. Note: losing doesn't affect anything this time (thank god!).

My strategy:

Mario:
Lazy Shell (weapon)
Super Suit
Attack Scarf

Princess:
Frying Pan
Lazy Shell (Armor)
Jynx Belt

Geno:
Star Gun
Star Cape
Safety Ring

The lazy shell give the most Def and MGDef (150 each I think) but lowers Attack and MGAttack by 50!! Therefore, I give it to her since she can bring people back (come back) and heal everybody in my party (group hug). Keep in mind, more than 50% of my inventory is KeroKeroColas!!! 4 pick me ups just incase!!!

Mario Has the Best Attack in the world so I make Geno give him a Geno boost as his first move for every battle. This will make Mario do around 500 damage against smithy EVERY TURN!!!!

Lazy Shell (Armor) - Best For Def but lowers Attack (it's user will almost NEVER DIE, weak against Dark Star, protects status)
Super Suit - Second Best Def, also increases speed and attack (protects ststus)!
Safety Ring - Okay Def (protects status)
Safety Badge - Low Def (protects status)
Amulet - Increases all stats
Attack Scarf - Increases Attack (Mario only!)
Jynx Belt - Increases attack

Now after typing all this, I think I'm gonna pass out...

Hey if you pick one of the stats and don't like it you can cancel it by pressing the B button. The last time I played it, then when I gained a level, I pick a stat and all of a sudden I press the B button to cancel, no way.

Danman...
If there was ever a time you couldn't win a battle, its BECAUSE you rose HP (almost) every freaking time!!

When i rented it once about 6 years ago, there was one file that (i have no idea how) made it to smithys place with around 500HP per char

Anyway...
If i were to fight your team, i'd win... for i have the ULTIMATE stratigy...

Mario
-doesn't matter-

Bowser
-doesn't matter-

Peach
Frying pan
Lasyshell armour
Safty ring

BWAHAHA!!
even the FF guy cannot do anymore than 1 damage to peach nomatter what the attack is!! then i just revive my party whn they die

Anyone know that 'put lazy shell on peach' trick and I think dark star don't do 1 dommage because Its pierce defence and attack scarf raise speed by 30 so its better for the speed boost than the attack boost

note:I think level-up status incresement based on what you upgrade the most, the one wich is the less upgraded will improve more than the most used one

Did anyone have any success in getting the Red Scarf?

(something like that)

The item you get for hitting 100 Super Jumps ... ugh, I hit like 80-something, but couldn't seem to get back up there again.

Think about it... Peach in my game has 250 Hp with the lazy shell armor on. Since the most damage you can give her is like 3, you need to attack her 83 times (always at 3 damage) in order to kill her! Therefore her healing will keep me alive forever! I NEVER EVER DIE!!!! With so much Hp, nobody can even get close to killing me, I always heal before I have even a small amount of damage. Hint: Bowser is useless! His stats are so freaking low! Mario on my team can kill him in 1 shot! Note: You probably don't believe me but Mario in my game can do around 600-800 damage to Smithy every turn (except when Smithy is in his defensive form). So the fact that your party can beat mine is a lie! My Hp is too high for you to even come close! I've been playing the game sicne it came out and I know where EVERYTHING is so don't give me any BS!!!

To those who care: Exor (the sword) can be killed very easily! Attack the eye on the left until it's protection for Exor fails. Then use a Geno Whirl on Exor and boom he's dead! The geno whirl has to be done right or it doesn't work! (push A at the right time)

I don't like the Lazy Shell armor unless I have a large number of KeroKeroColas; it lowers your Speed and Magic Attack attributes terribly, so unless Toadstool's been boosting Magic Power every level up you'll only heal ~50 HP with Group Hug, and the other two characters in the party will be taking a lot more than 50 damage per round in a fight where the shell's defense would actually be necessary.

I greatly prefer the Safety Ring. I don't know why it just says 'protects from mortal blows,' because it actually also prevents all six regular status ailments and nullifies any attack with a status effect or element attached to it. The vast majority of attacks in the game have an element (many don't, most do), so its effects are similar save for fighting the Earth Crystal. (Even better, it resists Shredder, I HATE that move).

As for boosts, it depends what the character is doing most of the time. Mallow and Toadstool don't need many physical boosts because that's not their function in battle (and Defense doesn't get much of a boost regardless), and Bowser doesn't need any magic boosting because he's geared for regular attacks. Geno is very easy to screw up; after level 20, he can't get any more HP bonuses greater than 1, so while his other bonus stats look good you need to pay attention to his HP early on. Mario gets access to those ridiculous Super Suit and Attack Scarf items, so he could be at level 1 and still perform his function properly (I usually let his Magic skyrocket, for some reason I'm really good at the Jump skill).

In my game, peach has the lazy shell and heals over 100 to each character. I don't give a damn about Geno! He can die for all I care! He's only good for Geno Boost. As for Mario, with the super suit on, he can resist attacks almost as well as Peach can! Safety Ring is a good choice but I personally don't recommend it for strong characters (that's why I put it on Geno).

I whore Bowser, Mario, and Peach.

I think the best super jumping I can do is about 20, so the attack scarf is out.

The one problem I have with the game though, is getting that one hidden chest in Land's End. It's impossible, I say.

I usually take the 'best bonus' for each character on level up.

Makes for more balanced characters (as if the game wasn't easy enough already).

Red Scarf? Its called the super suit damn it! I heard you can either use a turbo type manet to get it if you set the button at a certain speed. Some people get it by using the Snes Emulator and saving it with Shift + F1 after every jump! My secret to getting it... Doing it THE HONEST WAY!!! Took me like 2 monthes but I got it (eventually) and now I'm so proud of myself!
