We are holding a small contest for anybody who wants to build a small one screen sized cave for the upcoming Zelda 3 hack!

RULES-

must serve a purpose, don't make an empty cave room.

One screen size only!! (no doors other then the entrance/exit either)

don't go nuts with spike blocks, I mean don't put them everywhere.

be reasonable- no unfaire caves.

Have fun damnit
____________________________________________________________
Any winners will have their caves put in the hack

If you wanna show off a cave for the contest....

Get Hyrule Magic and make your cave.

Take a screen shot of the cave in play or in the editor (preferably in the editor)

post it here.

Anybody?

How many doors? Is it just like a small room? That doesn't really connect to anything?

Not to be rude, but could you be a little more specific?

Same question but more specifically:

Which one of these squares is the space we have for the caves?
The big red square or only the smaller green one?

thanks!

"one screen sized" meaning yes, the small yellow square. Sorry if I wasn't specific enough.

What powerups can we require/expect the player to have?
What might be an fair cave after you have 20 hears and all powerups might be unfair if you just have 3 hearts and not even a sword.

Also what side will the entrance/exit be? Will the player drop from the floor above? Can the player exit down to the floor below?

Can we have dialog?

Could we make one of those horrible push block puzzles?

Can we make the room dark?

How do we submit our room? A description with a screen shot? Or a map file/ips from hyrule magic?

Allow me to clarify. ANYTHING is fair game. You can do whatever you wish... but if you start throwing major items around in it, im pretty sure it wont be used. The entrances can be wherever you like, you can assume that the player has all the items, you can fall from a hole in the overworld, you can have dialogue... ect. Perhaps even give away a heart piece for completing the puzzle.

Also, the size of the cave is also up to you. You can use the entire room as layout 7 (one big room), or as a smaller room... Be creative, but keep in mind that some limitations may require it to be slightly modified for it to work well in the game.

It doesnt even have to look like a cave, you could use the house blockset, or maybe make it an ice or fire cavern... I say again, it is COMPLETELY up to you. Be creative, and enjoy making it. We may use more than one if we like them, so if you see a great cave made my someone else, dont give up, try anyways.

People are welcome to submit pictures of partially complete caves to showcase it. Feel free to ask for help if you run into a problem. Most glitches can be solved by using a different object. And, look at the origional for reference as how to make things work.

Also, I request that you test your cave to make sure that it works properly before submitting.

Thx.

OK, here's my entry:

It's one of those basic rooms you could entounter right from the beginning but would return later when you get the hookshot. The way it works, the chest is hidden until you press the switch.. Very basic, but hey I trew this up in ten minutes so you guys are likely to change everything to your wishes in the room. Alternatively, you could leave the switch there as a dummy and have a kill all enemies to get chest tag. That way you'd had to say find all enemies in the room and kill them all before even know theres a chest. Another thing you could had would be fairies so when the player enters the room he'll know he comes in there for them and not for a chest itself because he doesn't know there's one.. You could set up some monologue on a sprites somewhere in the game that tells you about the secret lying in a cave or even a sign with some clues on it.. Anyway have fun

I'll give it a shot too

I always thought the library needs some beefing up.

The Secret of the Library

I whipped this up in about 15 minutes, Well you never said anything about having too many objects on screen (yes there's a lot of objects in the screen).

Of course the room header should have "light torches to open", you can make it a dark room too if you wish (ancient library anyone?), feel free to put whatever in the chest since this can be accessed after you have either the fire rod or the lamp.

The player would have to locate and light all 4 torches fast to get into the locked door... just some skill, nothing too ridiculous.

Enjoy.

EDIT: oh i just noticed there's a little bug on the top left room with the fences or whatever you call those, nothing too serious, also the torch in the top left room might better off be one down from the spot in the picture...

Very nice Euclid... i would love to use that. Ill get the rom from you sometime when your online. That however does not mean the contest is over. If you would like to see your cave in DP, hack away.

Seph, i like your cave, but ill need to talk to you online about it sometime.

You're not bad as hosting these things, you just chose the wrong place to put them.

like tek has been dying and has virtually no activity for quite a while... I don't think i go through threads at tek.

Ok, it looks as if people arent too interested in building caves. Not a problem. Caves make up very little of the game, and im sure we can handle it, but the more people who make caves, the more diverse the style which is always prefered.

If anyone wants to submit one without posting a pic(cant think of a reason why, but), you can send me a PM, or an e-mail at Omega45889@gmail.com with either a pic, a IPS patch, or the rom.

Thx.
