I'm having trouble getting any NES emulators to work, and I think it may be something wrong with my computer than the emulators themselves. I was using FCE Ultra, and it worked good for me until I realized it wouldn't save or load states. I save them properly, but when I try to open them later, I get an error message that the file cannot be opened. Dragging them into FCE Ultra gives the same result. At the Zophar Emulation page, I've tried downloading all the "great" emulators, and none have worked successfully (other than FCEU). Most gave me various errors when I tried to open them, one was far too slow to actually play on, and rockNES completely died on me and I had to reboot my computer to shut it off. I've tried a few emulators that are considered "good," and none have worked. I'll keep trying them.. but I don't have high hopes. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Is it a simple setting I can change so states will work on FCEU or any other program, and is there some reason none of these emulators will work for me? I also aplogize for not knowing the correct terms to explain this. I would greatly appreciate any help. Also, as I've been trying more emulators, a couple more have worked, but I'm not able to open a saved state, which is the same thing that happens with FCEU. If that's a problem that can be easily fixed, then it'd make things a lot easier. (edited by Danielle on 07-01-05 12:32 AM) |

The FCEU states have the extention .fcX, are you sure you're dealing with these files and not the .sav files? FCEU won't save states to a non-existing directory. Check your overrides on the directory window under Options. |

Okay.. there's nothing in my directory, and I don't know what to put. I selected a folder where I plan on saving states in, then saved my current game there as a .fcX, and I got the same error I did before. I don't know what exactly I need to do or what I'm doing wrong, but I bet that's the problem. You think you could help me.. please? I'd appreciate it so much. The state file is actually in the folder? FCEU loads states from the same folder it saves them to, so if the files are there, I have no idea what's wrong. If they're not there, you've told the emulator to create the state file in a non-existing folder, which it can't do. The base folder is Just make sure you have a folder called fcs in the folder your emulator is in, then go to config -> directories and clear all the fields. That should do the job. |

Okay, that was my problem. I didn't have anything in the base folder override. It's working now, thanks so much for the help! |
