(copied from my TBB thread)

Ohohohohoo...I think I did good keeping my hopes up for this one. Took a look at it last night and already I'm starting to get a nice feel for it. Game's premise seems good enough; in essence the prelude being a war between gods and demons - Ragnarok and what's going on now because of it. I'd rather not spoil since there's a lot to get in just the first chapter alone, but I will show off a few things for what the system looks like.

System is your regular turn-based RPG with a few additions. First off, you've got an overdrive gauge which is very similar to a gauge you would see out of the Street Fighter Alpha series. This, combined with skills that you learn that influence your stats (the more you learn, the better; no leveling, pplz). This in turn can allow you to pull off awesome overdrive moves as your gauge goes up, either by taking damage or by attacking. However, if you do attack the enemy has an overdrive bar themselves which the will use when it's maxed.

Move system in itself is based on a look/move system involving TP. You recieve TP from battles in order to look around. Moving is basically going into Move mode and choosing a direction to go on the map. Not very much more to it than that as there really isn't a 'free' way to look around anymore. Anything that requires TP to look you have to pay up for.

So to get an idea for what it looks like...let's just have Ledah pull off Lost Seraph for you. By the by, this was the second battle in the game...

As you can also see by this (by the by, OWWWCH!), the battles are also ranked. The better you do, the more TP you get and the better score you get. Yes, the whole RPG is based on scoring. Obviously, the better score you get throughout the chapters, the better you're doing at the game. Ranks I've seen so far go from C, B, A, and S (if there's lower or higher, I wouldn't know). This will reflect later on as you beat a chapter as you are rated for how you do there as well. So the heat is really on to perform well.

One minor thing though, you can only equip 4 items per battle and some of these items have limits to use just like Fire Emblem works for their's. If you use it too much, it breaks. However, in case you want to get experience from items to get new skills (as that's how you get skills and stats as I mentioned) there is a mode called practice battle which allows you to fight monsters without the items wearing down (i.e. you have an Iron Sword x10; it won't drop any lower in this mode). If you defeat someone in battle and have a maxed gauge for the skill, you get that skill, which can be used when you equip the item, and you get stats because of it. These are called overskills (like the Lost Seraph I showed) which require certain amounts of overdrive gauges in order to get it. However, in the case of Lost Seraph, an EXL overskill, since it's so damn powerful the overdrive gauge shatters after one use.

But to get to a point on how you can learn a skill with low amounts of endurance, I had a sword with a x01 (yea, one use) and it required Fia to use it way more than just once. Practice allowed me to use it more than once...and...

She was doing that in practice. The picture doesn't say it because I was too slow on taking it, but that was her 8-hit attack, Cadenza. Other people that can learn this may learn something differently, in her case since she had a mastery of her rapier to level 3, she had the ability to pull off a Lv. 3 overskill for it. The lead person, Ein, can only get a Lv. 2 mastery/overskill with the same type of weapon. Also, obviously, if I went outside of battle and did that, however, the sword would break.

So, so far I've been liking what I'm seeing. People might want to just take a look at this, another ATLUS RPG.

i'm surprised too

anyways, i just started this game--haven't gone far though (school, work, and games don't mix very well ). My first impressions of the game have me enjoying a different approach to Strategy RPGs for a while. I think Super Mario RPG was the last time I saw this interface. Hopefully, I'll find time to be able to neglect work without much trouble to find time to play more

I'm at Chapter 7 now as it is...I didn't clean up too well on Please in Chapter 7 but I did get SAB regardless (first S in turns).

The sprites (as in my custom title, sprites, haw haw) in this game are pretty nice too. I like 'em, at least. OST's pretty solid...seems to be getting some pretty decent user ratings on Gamestop...yea, I think I did well here.

yeah...i'm just about finished with the first chapter; which isn't too hard i guess--Ein is a good hearted character (similar to me) so I like him--there something is mysterious about the other guy; something i'll find out later yeah?

ATLUS did a good job programming this game...i think of all the styles of RPGs I've seen, this type of art is what I like best...it has that comic book feel (or something like that) the voices are a little inaudible (but maybe my volume is too low)

From what I see, it looks like a good game, which means I won't be able to play it, unless I but it. Movie Gallery never gets good games, unless I already own them.

EDIT: Never mind, just noticed it's a GBA game, so I know I won't be playing it. I don't own a GBA.

So, is it true what I've heard from decently-reliable sources about the entire 2,000 units thing?

...Huh? I do not think that they limited the run of this one to 2,000 units... where's your source on that?

Probably wasn't a huge run but 2,000 units would be a joke.

Need to start back up on the seventh chapter. I've been putting it off because of school and a few other things.

This board for one but eh...

I've been wondering...what is the use of Ein's main weapon...other than using it for his overdrive attack. When I have him use other weapons (like a rod), it does more damage. Is there something I'm not doing?

The main weapon Ein gets is useful for two reasons: 1) Disaresta. Hands down, it's his best Holy attack in the game. I've cleared 3000 or 4000 damage against those weak against it later in the game. Only downside is that it shatters the gauge after use, so I'd use it as a final attack. Once you get the option of using it, though, you should find S-ranking battles a lot easier. 2) This is the obvious one, it's an infinite use. A 50x use may seem like a lot now, but it won't last you more than 10 battles most times. Recall that a vast majority of people can use a weapon and if not they can throw it. Every use takes down the weapon endurance until it breaks. Ein's mean weapon will never break.

That's not to say that there are not weapons that are more powerful in some aspects, but, for all practical purposes, it's his best weapon.

Well I just beat it...

I also destroyed Hades. I expected better.

I had ~1 mill points on the playthrough...

...and I'm playing through it again. I think what people fail to realize is it's not over after the first play through. In fact, I've found a few things now that weren't there the first ride through. For instance, pulling out a Longinus instead of a Rosier in the first chapter?

Big freaking difference. A magic attack with Ein that does 6000 to 7000 damage AT THE STATS HE'S AT NOW...that's pretty killer.

I'm going to play through it all again to see what I find. I know for a fact now that there are at least -4- different endings. Thus far on my second run I have an SS for Ch. 1 and an SSS for Ch. 2. Going to see if I can keep the trend up. I'm missing one thing in the unlocks and I think it's going to be coming up in this next chapter.

By the by, have you guys been finding the 9th area in chapters (such as 1-9, 2-9, etc.)? There's some pretty killer stuff in each of them and I think I may have only missed 3-9.

yeah, i've been getting lucky getting to those 9th levels...nice things come out of it

i have the opposite problems--i'm having trouble using up my weapons...the only weapon that i've lost is with Fia's rapiers...i tend to go through those things faster than the other weapons...

hmm, i need to get back playing the game...i'm at the cemetery right now

I had to put it down for Makai Kingdom and Stella Deus even though I've beat it through the first time. I doubt I lose much ground on it when I get the time though.
