Hello, my friends and RPG fans... I am pleased to present to you Secret Reality, an RPG under construction by that wonderful guy we call Schwa. This game is unique because it takes ALL kinds of different existing video-game elements and combines them into one full-length role-playing game. I have a lot of credit to give others whom's sprites I have used... Gojirott, Burner Man.EXE, Megaluigi4, Rogultgot and Starkin... I believe that's everyone for now but the list will grow for I am only 12% done. I ripped most of the graphics all by myself, but the above mentioned people provided me with some that I had little or no access to. Thanks guys!

This is an RPG being done with RpgMaker 2003, because I prefer that battle-style over XP (plue XP doesn't work on my home-computer). One day, an adventurer named Fiyro gets a telepathic message from a beautiful girl in a dream, telling him to meet her in a faraway town. Fiyro goes and meets the girl, who says her name is Crysta and she claims to be his sister. Fiyro doesn't believe her at first, but before they can talk about it for long, a shadowy figure materializes, KO's Fiyro, kidnapps Crysta and teleports away. At the last second, Crysta uses some unknown, cosmic power to teleport Fiyro to the place she has been taken to-- the Dimmension of the Eight Kingdoms.

This dimmension is made of the spiritual energies that holds other worlds together-- Mario, Hyrule, Kirby, Megaman, Sonic the Hedgehog, Yu-gi-oh, Pokemon and Bomberman. Therefore it has elements from all those other worlds. There are 8 continents in this dimmension, each with a theme from a game. Fiyro has to travel to the 8th Continent, where Crysta and her captor Duke await them, battle Duke and rescue his so-called sister, and find out the truth about her. That is the only way he can escape the continent. On the way, he has to rescue the spirits of various video-game stars trapped in Spirit Prisms to weaken the barrier protecting Kingdom 8.

Here are my screenshots.

The first Kingdom is called Mario World. This is an Overworld Map set up just like in the Mario game SMB3.

Level 1, Mushroom Plains. I have it so the enemies don't appear out of nowhere every few steps; instead it's Paper Mario style. You bump into the enemies on the Overworld and battle begins. Run away and you lose money.

And battle begins! Yes, I ripped gfx to create the backdrop all by myself. Not bad?

Level 2, Green Island. This level contains a Note Block maze, and pressing the ! switches can temporarily make Note Blocks appear, opening new paths.

Toadstool Harbour. Not much to say about this one.... It's a town.

Level 3, Beetlegrove Mines. This map contains a POW Switch race, where coins are turned to blocks and vice-versea, plus some silver POW switches that alter where some Note Blocks will send you. You also fight a Mini Boss, the King Cobrat, and rescue your first Spirit-- Princess Peach. Shortly afterward, Mario joins your party.

Rotomaton Fortress is no picnic. Phantos will cause the Tiny condition on you and drain your Mana, Li'l Sparkies will try and paralyze you, Unshavens will absorb your HP to multiply, Rotodiscs are invincible until you destroy their orbiting point, and Jars will constantly summon Shyguys into battle.

To battle! Look, this is Mario's special attack: Super Stomp. It's VERY powerful.

The first Boss is Boom-Boom, aided by a Magic Ball, then you can ride the boat to Kingdom 2: The Hyrulian Vale. But I haven't begun construction of that continent yet...

Comments, suggestions, complaints, or just plain arguments? I'd be happy to hear your input, as long as it's not "Use RPG Maker XP instead!" I do not like XP.

Edit: Fixed the pics. Damn Tinypic.com... From now on I use Photobucket to display my screenshots.

I seen half of them this morning before they blew out, however, most of them took a while to load up. Meaning that I coulden't get a clear view of all the screens. But from what I saw, it looked very nice. Good work, Schwa.

Fixed them now! (I'm never using tinypic.com again. It's screwy.)

I will be using Zelda Classic to get my tilesets for the Legend of Zelda continent. It should be pretty darn good in the end.

Holy Damn. Wow. Someone actually made something in RPGMaker that looks worthwhile. I need to start a religion, or add on to the one where I worship BMF.
Nice going, God.

Thanks for the compliments, but let it be known that I am, in no way, a God, but I have been infused with a touch of Oracle, which is almost as good. Ask Zerodius, he'd know.

The Hyrule kingdom is going along very slowly. It's difficult to get the enemies just the way I want them. (I design area-dewlling enemies to be a perfect match for the player by the time he reaches a certain level... In this case, Fiyro should be level 10 and Mario at least 9 by the time you reach Kingdom 2.)

And to Zerodius, part of the storyline is displayed in the first post of the thread. The rest I keep secret so I don't spoil anything important.

RPG Maker 2003 can go up to level 99? I hope so becease that, well, else, it would be hard to make a RPG made up of lots of video game dimensions since each game would have to be quite small... unless a mean of raising stats other than level-ups is added.

Yes, I didn't touched RPG Maker 2003 in a long time...

Don't forget about sidequests! I COULD put Lugia as a sidequest... fight him and you get a cool attack.

I hope I'm not keeping you guys bored, so how 'bout a little info on the party members?

Spoiler:
The order of party members that join your party are Mario, then Link, Kirby, followed by Dr. Wily, Metal Sonic as an optional character, and finally Pommy (from the Bomberman series). Since you can only have 4 party members max in the party, there are Swap Houses all over the game where you can store and swap out different allies and pick them up at any other swap house in the game.

Your party members will play a vital part on overworld progress, not just in battle. Mario is the only one who can hit ? Blocks on the map, Link can use items such as the Hookshot or Hammer on the map w/ the same reactions as in Lttp, Kirby uses the abilities he learned from enemies and Copy Hats to change the overworld (fire = light fuses for cannons, cutter = cut ropes holding platforms, just like in KSS), Dr. Wily can fix machinery and put together Metal Sonic when you find all his pieces, Metal Sonic doesn't have an ovw ability but he's an optional sidequest-obtained character and he's a fighting machine, and Pommy uses Pokemon moves such as Cut, Surf, Flash, etc. to progress through obsticles just like in the Pokemon series.

I put it in a Spoiler Tag in case you want to be surprised. Note that I may change this later on.

whoa whoa whoa!
Spoiler:
Pommy?!

Awsome! He was one of my favorite sidekicks in a game. This lloks great, but some of the top-down shots feel repetitive, you may want to add more to them. The SMAS graphic you used feel... partial at best.

Here are a few more screens of my Hyrule progress. (Sorry, .bmp format but I was in a hurry)

In this battle, you start with fighting 3 Octoroks. After 9 moves have been made (counting all allies and foes), two Leevers show up.

Buzz Blobs are nothing to mess around with. Whenever you attack it directly, the Counter Reflex activates and you receive from 10 to 39 HP damage.

Also in this fight is the Peahat. Every time it makes 3 moves, it sparkles and becomes completely invincible for 3 turns. Wait for it to stop sparkling, then wail on it.

I like making complicated Monster Groups, so let me tell you of some of the other adjustemnts I have made...

In the first area (when you're fighting Goombas), there's a 50% chance that if you don't beat all enemies within 8 moves, Kuribo's Shoe enters the battle. He is a relitively tough foe for a beginner, but he earns you quite a bit of Exp. and G.

In the second area (the Forest), you may meet a Fuzzy. These enemies, when alone, can use the Multiply ability and make a copy of itself. They only do that once per battle, however.

In the cave, should you fell a Dry Bones, there is a 1/32 chance every 2 moves for him to auto-resurrect at 50% HP.

In the fortress-- whoa, we have a lot here, folks-- Rotodiscs are completely invincible no matter what. The only way to beat them is by destroying the Rotodisc Ball. Then they both die. Then there is the Shy Jar, which can summon an endless amount of Shyguys. The Unshaven, when alone, attacks with HP Metamorphosis, which sucks your HP and uses it to create a copy of itself. It'll use that move no matter what as long as it's the only enemy left. Hotheads (giant Li'l Sparkies from SMW) will split into 2 Li'l Sparkies when beaten, and if you beat all other foes first, it'll explode and cause massive damage to all party members.

I have plans for future enemies, too... In the mountains of Hyrule, there will be Desert Leevers, tougher versions of the normal Leever, that have an ability called Sand Trap. I've planned for this move to lower Attack and Agility as well as force you into Defense mode for 3 turns. The Ropa is an automatic self-healer, meaning he heals some of his HP every turn automatically. I'm still working out the rest.
Grey the Stampede

Don't mess with powers you don't understand.

And yes. That means donuts.

Is there going to be a town system, or an overworld or hub world that we can access at any time, or do the transitions from area to area occur directly?

It sounds pretty linear. I'm not really a fan of linearity, I like backtracking a lot to find new and interesting things, but so far it looks pretty good. You seem to have a lot of wide, open spaces to deal with, though. I realize this is probably because the enemy style is like that of Paper Mario, but it feels like there's a lot of negative space in the worlds.

The story, though! The story! Will there be dialogue? Many of the characters you're enlisting have the hero's curse of not having any dialogue ever, and thus not having much personality, meaning you'll have to invent personalities for each of them. It might be a good idea to include some supporting characters from each individual game in order to give more background to the heroes, should you be unable to give them their own diverse personalities. (and I better not see Link have his personality from the "Legend of Zelda" animated series...)
