Small update on the hack just to tell you guys that the overlay display and menu I wanted to have are finally inserted in the rom. Thanks to euclid for that asm work.

As I promised in the last update thread, here's dungeons screens and the general overlay itself.

Also on a side note, I'm working on the script as we speak and a good amount of monologue as already been changed. The story itself is undergoing changes and the name of the hack might change to something that fits it better. So I could say, that after the dungeons, there won't be much left to do.

Will we see any graphical changes? Such as items etc.

Great job with the menu and it's whole new layout. Keep it up!

This is one of the few hacks I'm looking forward to play.

That is what I am wondering. It is probably a statue. Try to find a way to make it look more like a statue, like, ummmm.... It would be cool if the King Statue was monochromatic. That would make it look cool.

Seph its almost impossible for you to release shit screenshots anymore. Maybe a slightly lighter red for the shield would make it less standout.

Yes, items apparence will change, althrough I'm not sure yet if I'll change what they do. I for one would like to have both the flute and shovel in the inventory, but still I don't know if it'll be possible.

Yeah as you guys guess it's supposed to be a statue. Pherhaps a palette change would help it stand out more then it is actually.

Aight, I'll edit the palettes to be less bright for your viewing pleasure (Like matching it with the rest of the outfit).

Remember that I'm only posting a few selected screens to show that the hack still alive. The Z3 community was in bad shape for too long. Thus this is about time for full hacks to release. Dark Prophecy is going to be first along with Tower of The Triforce. Mine will be coming along after these. I'm incertain about Quest for Calatia status. And yours well we can only hope it'll be a complete one as well. Beeing your second attempt at releasing something, I'm sure you'll come up with something awesome (In fact I liked your demo best..).

Cheers mate i loved my little demo. Problem 2 years ago was that i came up with a bunch of ideas that i wanted to use that just werent possible. From what i can see of your hack though youve implemented things i couldnt even have dreamt of hacking into Zelda.

Ive always found overworld editing easier than dungeon editing but from your pictures it looks like yours will be great.

don't have to give me that much credit, it is your ideas after all, i'm just putting your ideas into action...

on a side note i didn't know the item box goes all transparent when it's empty.... it's suppose to be black... oh well it came out fine

And I have to agree with SePH here and say that Neonswift's demo come out the best back then as far as overworld goes... because all i've done is some "rearranging" of the existing areas (ok maybe creating one or two, but that's about it.)

Zelda 3 hacks take time, much like Zombies ate my neighbours. I woudlnt' be suprised if it took over 3 years to make one. I think every game that has a editor should have at least one hack so I'm hoping this will fit the bill. Anyway, yes, looking good. I hope you do change more graphics. Cause what has changed in the graphics so far is nice.

Problem? Do that mean I've implemented stuff you'd have liked to have in your hack? If there's really anything you want to "copy" in my ideas, feel free to do so.. I really don't mind at all. Think of it as open source. Your first demo hack really pursued me to a point that I wanted to hack myself.

Well you did take your OWN TIME to help me with the hack.. Not just the ASM, but the various fixes there and there.. that really made things easier for me. (Instead of say.. learning ASM myself )

The item box goes transparent? Didn't noticed until you told me. I have tested most things out on my part and everything works fine, but two things.. The overlays in the second part (after getting the master sword) are screwed up like if they didn't load the right ones.. And the silver arrows status icon doesnt appear in the right place (it's over the rupee icon). Aside these I didn't noticed anything weird.

True, it takes time. Depends through on how much time per day you work with the editor. Up to know I really haven't work much more then two hours a day on the hack.. And it's also offically one year in the making. (Started back on June 28th 2004)

Right now I was wondering whether or not I should work more time a day to quicken the progress. It's probably what I'm going to do. Because really... I'm about to turn 25 years old on the 15 of August and I really don't want to spend another year romhacking. So the longer I work a day, the shorter it'll be to release it and finally that I'll get more time to spend on my life.

I'll do change more GFX for the dungeons but not for the overworlds (There's no point hacking them again as there finally 100% done )

D'oh.

that really shows how slack i've been with the testing

Fix for a headered rom (which i think you have), open up your hex editor and at following addresses change them to:
6FD0C 1E -> 2A
6FD12 1F -> 2B
6FD18 20 -> 2C
6FD1E 21 -> 2D

About that second part... I have no problems with overlays on the second part (after master sword) because i tested it with my sram file and it has the master sword... see me on msn and i'll find out what the problem is.

Aight the hex fix worked great, thanks one more time.

I couldn't get you on msn (must be because of our very different timezones) so I'll just post my problem here...

As for the overlay thing, words can't describe better what it does then screenshots:

That kind of thing happens after entering areas with the new overlays in part two. That's a weird thing in itself.. Might be a problem with the savestates but again I just wanted to make sure your tried it up good while testing the hack.

---

BTW... Four dungeons left to do. Call it the rush of the century. A rush in the good terms, since I have most of them planned on paper. I'll continue to work ten hours+ a day if it can by any means faster the release. 2 dungeons in one weekend seems crazy, but in the end I'm kinda astonished dungeons were this easy compared to what I had though. In fact I find them easier then overworlds. Well they sure take more planning, but when you get the catch of understanding them, it gets done real quick.

Another thing about the dungeons that I need to know through. I tested a thing on a brand new Zelda 3 rom. To change entrance 25 objects and tiles.. but when I would enter it the game would simply crash. In fact that entrance is the one with the water dungeon in it. So is there any way to edit that room without corrupting the game? So that it plays fine in game?

I might have that demo laying around ... that, or I was one of your testers if you had one? (MasterSephiroth?)

It was good NEON, but yeah, I can't force you to go back to your Z3 hack or anything.

As for your hack SePH, I can't put into words how impressed I am. This is looking so good it looks like a real game, like it would be Link to the Past 2 or something, with the new menu, and things like that.

Keep up the work SePH, I'm highly anticipating your hacks release.

My demo had the entire overworld wiped except for the areas you went to. which pissed me off cause id completed the entire overworld. I doubt the version youve got is any different from the demo i released. I'm well into recreating my overworld now anyway. I'll release some shots again soon...which have even better things in them.

I agree with Seph's statement that restarting your overworld can do it wonders.

I'll definately put the effort into completing this when its released...seems even better than stuff like Minish Cap which was a piss poor sequal to ALTTP.

(I know this is somewhat off-topic, sorry )

Minish Cap was a sequel to ALTTP?

That's one of the Zelda games I haven't played, that and the Capcom developed ones (Ages and Seasons I believe).

From what I hear though, I'm not missing out on too much with those 3 ... I should probably try them out sometime though.

Minish cap was in terms of graphics not actual story. I was thinking more in graphical terms. The oracle games had worse graphics so they werent really sequals in that way. No doubt ill get flamed for saying this but in the zelda series the graphics do actually matter. Reason WW got such mixed results. the reason majoras mask was soo atmospheric and the reason alttp looked better than LA.

I can assure you that it works on my rom in "part 2" of the game.

Try doing this: Start your save from sanctuary and get to the closest forest on a save which is on part 2 (you can tell by going into the subscreen and see if it's showing the crystals or the pendants). Because that works fine for me.

Entrance 25 works fine on mine, or are you refering to room 40 (which is points to) because that works fine too.
