The landscape was perfectly symmetrical. There was small stream with two bridges over it, which separated two 100-foot stretches of grassy field that expanded in both directions from the water, East and West. At the ends of these fields, the land sloped upward for another 50 feet, and eventually reached a tall stone wall, forming a valley.

Kyle paced around the Western side of the valley, thinking it mighty convenient that he happened to stumble upon this little place when he craved a good game of Capture the Flag. He then started explaining the rules out loud, knowing that he didn't have to talk to anyone in particular. People would come if the game held promise.

Kyle: Okay, what I'm holing here is a good old game of Capture the Flag. I'll be the judge here, once at least two people join, though I'd prefer to have around 4 people to a team. If only a small amount of people join, I suppose multiple characters can be used for each user.

Right. The West side of this valley will be represented as the Red Team, and the East side will be the Blue Team. I've placed the appropriate flags at the base of each wall at the ends of the valley. All a team has to do to win is bring the opposite flag to their own flagpole.

Sides of the court play a different role here, as this is the Sim Battle Arena, not a normal game of CtF. If you want to stop an opponent, you must fight them. If you successfully beat an opponent on YOUR side of the valley, they will be instantly teleported to your 'jail' that is set directly halfway across each side, or 3/4 of the way across each field. The jail is the little circle drawn in the grass. You can do nothing but watch the game in the jail. Any prisoners can be freed if their ally can press the button set in plain sight right in front of the jail. The prisoners will then be teleported to their side of the valley, right next to the stream, and their HP and MP will be recovered.

However, if you beat an opponent on THEIR side of the valley, they will only be frozen for two turns (wait until the other team moves twice). Then their HP and MP will be recovered, and they can continue.

Remember, your goal is to capture the flag, not beat your opponents into submission. As such, it would be smart to try to escape any opponents you meet on their side of the court, and run to get the flag. I mean, would you want to wait around in jail if you lost? So, try not to let your opponents get past you. I predict that attacks that slow their target will be useful here.

I figure it will take 3 turns of running for a fast character to make it to the end of one side. Probably 4 for a medium-speed character, and 5 for a slow one.

As is with all battles, it'll be up to the defender to say whether an attack misses or hits. Be fair; I'll be watching.

Kyle pulled out a handheld remote thingy.

Kyle: Also, if things start moving kind of slow, I'll use this device to make random events happen. Like what? I'm not telling.

So anyways, you can join now. Just say what side you want to be on. If teams are too uneven, I'll shake it up, and if an odd number of people join, I'll send in Cyberaptor for the shorter team. He's a good guy.

You have until Thursday to join. Past that, NO ADMITTANCE.

So join already!

Kyle disappeared somehow.

OFF: I'm going to use new characters!

____________________________________________________________________

??? #1: "I say that we are lost!"

??? #2: "We're perfectly on schedule."

??? #1: "I say: we are lost! You don't know where we're going!"

??? #3: "Shut up! You're giving me, and probably the boss too, a headache!"

The three finally arrived at the arena.

??? #2: "Haaa! There we are!"

??? #1: "I STILL say we're lost!"

??? #3: "You idiot! We arrived!"

??? #2: "Erm... right... sorry."

The three figures placed themselves on the East Side, next to the prison. he first figure was a black knight riding a Nightmare, a strange ethereal horse that came from the dark dimension. The black knight was called Goldsterd and was most obviously a human. Since the Nightmare was not really in the material plane, the black knight moved at a somewhat slow speed. Altought the cavalier was a knight, his voice betrayed his identity: he was not a noble and had probably became a knight only becease of his skills... and since it takes insane talent to be recognised as a knight when you have "dirty" blood, it must mean that this knight is a force to be reckoned!

The second figure was the leader. It was a humanoid figure wearing a suit of black armor that totally covered him. The being was not a physical being but was actually made of pure dark flames... and as such, it became obvious that the armor was, in truth, an automate, a medieval robot. The automate was painfully slow, slower than almost anything you could imagine... but the being's insanely powerful dark aura and the unnatural glow of his long pike indicated that altought he was a slow moving guy, you do NOT want him to hit you with that long pike of his! The being was speaking with a weird english accent showing that he wasn't a common dark monster however; he was a noble being, probably a dark lord... in fact, he was Lynrin, a dark lord from the Eastern Lands... but Lynrin was not how people reffered to him. Unstead, he was being called "Sir Killalot". Why Killalot? Well... during a battle against a rival lord, Lynrin's army ran away... so, Lyrin took on the entire enemy army all by himself... and slaughtered them to the very last! Since this day, he has been nicknamed "Sir Killalot" and has been respected by his allies and feared by his enemies.

The third figure was a dark elf archer wearing an heavy suit of armor and some kind of weird bow. He was unnnaturally fast... in fact, it was likely this dark elf could outrun any cavalier no matter how fast... in fact, he was so fast he would probably even outrun a car. This dark elf was Killmore, Killalot's most loyal servant. After Killalot had saved Killmore from a raid by a rival lord, Killmore had sweared to follow Killalot to the ends of the world... and altought Killalot tried to convaince Killmore to let him be, he couldn't get rid of him. Since this day, Killmore serves as Killalot's body guard, cook, mechanic, horse keeper, ambassador... Killmore had every skill and just like Killalot, was an army by himself. Altought he didn't had Killalot's unnatural strenght or Goldsterd's ethereal horse, he was so fast he could surround an entire army all by himself and keep them busy with a barrage of arrows. The barrage was usually terribly weak but it was also incredibly thick... almost as thick as if an actual army was shooting!

The three formed a three-man army and were know trought all of the Eastern Lands as the Plague Squad. There was no challenge they couldn't complete, no opponent they could defeat!

Together, the three were invincible and today, they were going to prove it by facing foes from a land outside of the Eastern Lands. The three had heard of beings with powers called "psychic", of automates that could think on their own called "Reploids", of god-like "Hunters", of the defensive masters called "Oracles"... and of course, there were rumors about beings simply called "Ex" that were rumored to be the strongest beings ever.

The Plague Squad was ready to take on all of them!... and at once, if needed! The Eastern Lands had bored them to death... and they couldn't wait for the start of their new, exciting life of challenges!

ooc: OK, I'll join.

Snipes strode onto the field, looking around. Eyeing the knights, Snipes got ready for a little action.

'CtF?! This should be fun. Good thing I'm good at sneaking around.'

ooc: Once that game starts I'lll begin charging my weapons.

EDIT: Please fix your layout

Lynrin turned toward Snipes.

Lynrin: "Oh. Greetings, mister. My name is Lynrin altought you may call me by my nickname, Sir Killalot. The dark elf to my left is Killmore, my trustworthy servant, and that noble knight to my right is Goldsterd. It is an honor to meet you, sir... and should you be an ally, I hope that our help will reveal itself to be precious to you... and if we are opponents, then I hope that we will reveal ourselves to be opponents worthy of your skills!"

The three saluted Snipes and then waited for his reply.

Two small purple cats jump down from the top of the wall and begin projecting their thoughts loudly, with the result that everyone nearby can hear their conversation...

Ketra (young female voice): Wheee! That was FUN! Let's climb back up there and do it again!
Rendar (adult male voice): Wait, Ketra... There's something going on over there!
Ketra: Oooh! Is it shiny?
Rendar: (sighs) It could very well have shiny things involved, yes.
Ketra: Yaaaaay! Ketra runs over to the gathering of people.
Ketra: Wow, looks like Capture the Flag, Rendar! I haven't played that forever!
Rendar: If it is CTF, then why are they so well-armed? I smell a trap...
Ketra: It's nothing to worry about! These people just want to have fun!
Rendar: (sighs) Very well then. Let's introduce ourselves, then.
Rendar walks over to where the others are, and begins speaking in Common, with an unusual accent. This is surprising, as cats don't have the vocal cords for speaking.
Rendar: I am Rendar ka Tyriin, and this is my friend, Ketra ei Tyriin. It looks like we'll be playing your silly game now. Try to make it quick, as we need to make more progress before sunset. Come on, Ketra. Let's show them what we can do...

Lynrin: "Hmmm... I am not sure this is a good idea. We, the Plague Squad, are very skilled warriors... and your allies, those two cats, do not look like worthy opponents. I'm not into unfair battles after all... but if you insist, then we shall face your team... but be warned! We will not show your team ANY mercy! We will capture the flag numerous times without you being able to do anything and if you get into the way, we will NOT hesitate to defend ourselves!"

Kyle appeared again somehow.

Kyle: Okay, that's enough time for joining. We may begin now.
Kyle: So, we have the Red Team - Snipes, Ketra, and Randar, VS. the Blue Team - Goldsterd, Lynrin, and Killmore. You know the rules, and I'm tired of long-winded intros. COMMENCE!!!

And so it started, with each of the three players set in the middle of their fields.

Kyle: Remember, you'll want someone to guard the flag...for the red team, probably one of the cats, since they are both controlled by one person.

Kyle floated off into the air, to get a better view at the field.

Kyle: Hmm...maybe we could get spectators.

A bunch of bleachers appeared somehow, just in case anyone wanted to watch this match.

EDIT: Chessepie posted before me, so

Engaging his cloak for the first time in a while, Snipes crab-walk along the outer rim of the field, not wanting to get noticed. He may have been cloaked, but his outline would still shimmer a bit in the heat. Calling out to ketra, Snipes spoke

"Ketra, I'm going for the flag. Just wait a sec, OK? I might need you to catch the flag for me."

Lynrin stood just next to his team's flag.

Lynrin: "Come, robot! Come and face me in an epic duel to determine who shall have the honor of grasping this flag, symbol of victory!"

While Lynrin awaited Snipes, Goldsterd and Killmore moved on.

Killmore led the offensive, trying to get at a fitting distance from the cats so he could shoot them while Goldsterd remained just behind, ready to intercept any attempt at stopping their attack.

Judging from the coordination of their team, the Plague Squad must be really be as experienced as they claim to be...

Ketra sighed. She knew that every time she played capture the flag, she would just jave to sit there are do nothing. Well, the others seemed pretty mean. She might get some fun from this after all. She concentrated, and an ovaloid stone made of iron pyrite appeared on her forehead.

Rendar ran out in front, summoning his gold stone with little effort. He wasn't about to let Ketra get hurt, this far away from the others... she thought this was a game, but looking at the other team, he'd have his hands full.

Making sure his cloaking was on, Snipes dashed silently at the flag from behind Lynrin. Since he didn't really want a fight, Snipes aimed with his pistol and fired one shot directly at the back of Lynrin's head.

OFF: Bad idea, Darkflight! My character Lynrin is resistant to all attacks becease of his nature and is incredibly deadly in melee combat. As long as Lynrin remains close to the flag, there isn't much that can be done since Lynrin is so stupidly strong and becease, indeed, he can see the invisible!

However, becease of his weight, it takes Lynrin an awfully long time to move around... which means that if he is forced to come far from the flag, he will NOT be able to make it back in time to protect it.

As for Killmore... he can basically travel trought the entire battlefield in a turn or two... but he's also the weakest overall. He relies entirely on his speed to outrun and harass foes.

Goldsterd is incredibly powerful altought not as much as Lynrin and just like Lynrin, he is slow but not quite as much as his master, again. Goldsterd's main difference is that while Lynrin is resistant to all attacks, Goldsterd, him, has mediocre defense against physical attacks but all magical and energy-based attacks will not do ANY damage to him.

Together, the three characters balance each others out allowing them to be an unstoppable force... but due to their individual weaknesses, they can be beaten if they can be separated and faced individually.

____________________________________________________________________

However, unfortunately for Snipes, Lynrin was not fooled by visual cloaking fields.

Lynrin: "I can see you!"

Lynrin turned around as Snipes was about to fire at him. Lynrin took the shot awfully well... in fact, the shot made the sound of a bullet that had passed trought an empty armor.

In fact, it really seemed that there was nothing under the armor... all he did when he was hit was recoil a bit and... that's it. No blood, no "ouch", nothing.

Lynrin: "Now... do you like Mandrake? I like Mandrake. It's a fine poison... but speaking about it doesn't do it justice. You must experience it to feel the subtility of it's deadly effectiveness. Now... here's a gift."

Lynrin throw his pike away and then took out his real weapon: his mechanical halberd.

Lynrin: "One glass of Mandrake, one!"

The mechanical systems of the halberd activated and made it shorten to the lenght of a short axe so that Lynrin could strike down Snipes. Once this was done (the operation merely took a second), Lynrin swung his weapon at a horizontal angle!

If Snipes wouldn't block or dodge the attack, the veins close to his heart would be cut open and be infused with TONS of fatal poison (Mandrake is like, INCREDIBLY toxic) which means that even if Snipes survive the initial strike, he won't survive long without an antidote... and that only applies if he survives the initial strike, that is!

You see... the reason Lynrin stood back was that he's deathfully slow... but he's strong enough to knock down concrete walls with his bare hands... which means that he swings that halberd of his using a LOT of strenght! Also, the halberd is magical which means that it electrocute the target upon impact, killing almost any target on the spot.

It was truly obvious that Lynrin's attack was made to kill... but Lynrin was not worried. This was a Capture the Flag game and as such, death would only result in the victim being trapped in the prison, not in ceasing to exist.

...

As Goldsterd and Killmore made it somewhat close to Ketra and Rendar, they stopped.

Killmore kneeled down, took aim... and began to shoot arrows at an INCREDIBLE rate!

It was as if he was using a machine gun unstead of a bow, litterally!

Thankfully, the arrows weren't very powerful and as such, while the arrow rain would be painful, it wouldn't be enough to incapacitate the opponents.

The arrow rain was, in fact, merely a diversion for while Killmore fired at the cats, Goldsterd was close to the edge of the arena, trying to sneak up on the cats and make it to the flag...

ooc: Zerodius, Snipes is the same in the simbattle arena as well as the story forum.

Snipes Anticipated the attack and jumped over the axe, front-flipping and lanind on the flat of the axe. Pushing off, Snipes Threw a plasma grenade at Lynrin's armour. Landing on the other side of the axe he had originated on, Snipes pulled out his sword and readied himself to evade an attack.

OFF: I won't post what happened to Goldsterd and Killmore until Koneko replied. I think it's OK for battles to progress faster than strategic moves... well, I think.

____________________________________________________________________

The grenade, unfortunately, doesn't do much. Lynrin's helmet is blown high in the air, revealing Lynrin's true form for a second (he's made of pure dark flames) and then, the helmet falls back on his head.

Lynrin: "That is rather... unpleasant."

Lynrin spins his halberd around in order to stop Snipe from standing on it and then, the halberd takes the lenght of a normal halberd.

Lynrin: "You will not be able to dodge this one so easily."

Lynrin placed the halberd over his head and using all of his strenght, he did a downward vertical slash. Becease of the halberd's weight and Lynrin's strenght, the attack was going rather fast and as such, would be much harder to avoid!

Just like his last attack, this one was sure to give grievous damage and poison Snipes (if he can be poisoned, that is).

ooc: Snipes cannot be poisoned.

Since Snipes had been prepared, he was able to easily roll out of the way. Dancing outside of Lynrin's range, Snipes decided on a different strategy, hoping he could pull it off in time.
