I plan to shift the status bar to the bottom of the screen. Would it be easy to shift layer 3?

How are you going to obtain a reserve item like that?

I think it would be very hard to move the layer 3 status bar down to the bottom of the screen. You would run in to a problem moving it down there anyway. The item in the item box wouldn't work right. You would have to re-code how it works. It currently falls down when mario gets hit, but if the status bar was at the bottom, it would have to fall up.

Also, your current status bar has some blackness around the part that says "world", and around the dash. It doesn't look good.

So in short, moving layer 3 down there is possible (with ASM of coarse, but you would need to learn it, as I don't think anyone here will help with this), but you would run into problems. You may even have to re-point the counters and stuff, I think....

maybe he will disable the item box and remove it or use the patch that does both (I made that patch and you can find it at ry-cave forums http://peterac.pe.funpic.de)

No reason the item can't just fall from the sky, as long as it appears just off the top of the screen.

Think it's possible to just change layer 3's position to make the top 'wrap around' to the bottom?

[edit] Actually, the game just keeps the scorebar tiles in RAM and DMAs them into layer 3's tilemap. It would probably be really easy to change, just find what address it DMAs to and change it. You couldn't use layer 3 water though.

Unless you edited out the bottom part. Also, the black bits were from the status bar, when the black bar was at the top.

The entire map is in VRAM but the game keeps a mirror in RAM of the status bar area. (Hence why this shouldn't be too hard; just find where it copies that to. )
