I've read some of these simbattles and I find them to be too..... short.
I've seen some other things from other forums..Shouldn't a move be more than a paragraph with a few lines?
Even newbies that are 10 years old could write that much. I could be short, but it should go into more depth:

rather than:

"Ah, I see you are here. Face your death, mortal" he screamed as he lunged and sliced the sword in his chest for like 3 lines, how about:

ex. Part of battle, PhagetheUntouchable

It was silent. No sound. Skitters of rats in the sewers below were silent as if dead. But yes they were. Dark energy filled the whole town, killing any who still lived. Chokes and shrieks echoed through the town. They could be heard from miles around. Silent once more. The foe yet lived. Suddenly, Then came a choke, gasping for air, the sound of blood vomiting and flying through the air, landing in a soft pile nearby. A scream like no other, the scream of 1000 humans, pleading for life. Next, there was the sound of a sword sliding through the chest. Then, came a soft trickle of blood departing from the torso. Phage stood still, as if unmoving, yet Gerard fell, with a cut through his chest, a blank look on his empty face. The next moment, Phage stood, crushing the skull of Gerard who was laying helplessly before him. He was still alive. Phage made sure of that. Killing was no fun, without the pain. It was delicious. Luxurious food to the killer, rotting blood and plaque to the mouth of the prey, Gerard. The swipe of death seemed to fly over Gerard as if a condor, signaling that there would soon be food. A mortal feast. Another scream, then another weep. Fire burning, engulfing one, and protecting, empowering the other. The smell of burnt flesh and bone, lay on the ground, bearing the name of Gerard. The foe staggered up, drenched with blood, charge forward, but to no avail. He fell helplessly to the ground once more. The killer was now the prey. Gerard fell helplessly as if a small toddler waddling through a maze of traps and dooms. Gerard was to die, like many others.Phage charged down, slicing a deep slash into the left shoulder, revealing decaying flesh and burnt bone underneath. Phage seemed to Phase through Gerard's body, arriving at the other end then flying up through the air. Gerard fell, with lack of spirit and life.

You do not know the glory of death itself. To become strong, you must embrace it, weakling. Killing petty farmers and untrained militia does not prove strength, it proves stupidity and weakness.

Phage smiled down at the dying victim. He was panting, gasping for air, trying to stand. The mortal glared up at Phage, with blood spewing out of his chest. The aroma of the pain and anger wafted up to Phage. He smelled it. It was good

I like to keep my style lighthearted, though.... It's no fun when you're writing depressedly all the time. Take, for example, my breaking of the fourth wall in the fight I'm currently in with Schwa. I didn't do it as a combat tactic, I did it for laughs, I figured it'd be funny to have my character argue with his narrative for a few lines, it gives him more, well, character.

If you're looking for extended fights, the Story Forum actually has many of them, a lot of stories are very combat-oriented, and they last for extremely long times in many cases. Most of our SBs are just quick duels, by your standards. But I'd love to challenge you sometime, I'm an aspiring writer myself, and I'd like to see what I can do when I'm placed in a situation where I have to describe my every move to my foe.

Whao, I got quoted? O_o

Funny to be sent to a site and randomly find yourself quoted, I must say.

Hi Phage^^

Anyway, open to new ideas is always a good thing... but do keep in mind Phage, these simmers use Orthodox, they do not use our own style, Unorthodox. The key difference in our way is that we choose how we damage our opponents, in theirs, the defender chooses. Elementary differences really, but it makes a world of difference.

EDIT: Also... please take note, those two posts don't really hold the true nature of a fight. First off, my post was an entrance more so than an attack; I left it open for my opponent to interprate. Sure I hurt him a little, but nothing extreme at all. If you wish, I can provide a better example needed, but that's only if you want.^^

Grey, Alot of people I know like comic battles... hilarious to read. Armored Cods... respectable fighters in santa suites... a robot in a girdle... Oh the horror.

User Grey adjusts his pinstriped suit's tie, fixes his fedora on his head, and trims his beard before turning around to address the small crowd that has formed before his new office.

Grey: "Alright, Ladies and Gentlemen, I'd like to welcome you all to the Sim Battle Arena, now under new management. As I have been appointed as what appears to be the new master of all that pertains to annihilating people in the realm of literature, I'd like to make a few suggestions as to the conduct of the battlers in the arena."

1: Firstoff, everything Kirbynite said still goes. He's got a good thing going on, and I'd suggest we follow the rules he set before I got here.

Grey: "As a matter of fact, my problem isn't really with how people act in their battles, it's how we act outside them that I want to make sure we keep in line. It's come to my attention that there are people on the board who think that Sim Battling is kind of dumb, or something to be looked down on. I'd like to dispel that stereotype, and show the board that Sim Battling is a good thing, an exercise in expanding a person's creative abilities. Perhaps we can generate some interest in the practice, or invite a few spectators in on the carnage? In any case..."

2: Be polite and intelligent both in and out of the arena. The best way to get new battlers is to show what kind of people the current battlers are, and if we show that we're a crowd of good people who are overall likeable characters, then that'll probably turn on some new people to the sport. Basically, if we can all learn to get along, we'll have more people to get along with.

Grey: "I want to try to get as many people into battling as possible. If we can do that, then it'll account for a crapload of diversity and imagination in our battles, and chances are even veterans might learn a thing or two, themselves... In any case, the most important thing to remember is to have fun with your battles, no matter who fights."

Before shutting his office door, Grey remembers that he forgot something...

"Ah, yes, one last thing. You'll note that the title of this thread has changed, because it has also changed purposes. It's now a complaints department, as well. If you have any complaints, you can either post them here or PM me with any difficulties you may be having, or suggestions for addendums to existing rules. Thank you, and goodnight."

Rather than slam his office door, Grey pulls a piece of time and space over himself, and disappears into nothingness.

I'm sorry, but that's a little vague for me. I've looked around, but I can't find anything that elaborates on that. I'm guessing you mean three at a time?

That thing was brought up to kinda keep the crazy rush of battles people kept bringing up without finishing down.

As for the meaning.. Um... Yeah, three at a time. I'm sure it'd probably be ok now, as long as it's not apparant that you're just trying to rack up on posts

With that thing earlier in the thread about making longer posts. I actually got told off there for doing too short a post. So I hope here they never make us write pages of things to do

No, that will never happen. You don't need to worry about post length, the biggest problem you'll ever face as far as Sim Battling goes is lack of content. It's ok to make short posts, so long as they have acknowledgement of an opponent's action, counter to action (or damage notification), action, and witty banter interposed anywhere in the post if you want.

A lot of people just like making long, detailed posts because it's either 1) (in my case) fun, and allows one to use intricate, imaginative moves that are designed to creatively stretch one's mind, 2) challenging, and therefore somehow fulfilling to the battler, or 3) an attempt to add depth and development to a character, and thus the roleplayer's choice need.

The beauty of it is that you can do either! You can still be good at what you do with short posts, so long as you make what you're saying clear and concise, and you don't offend or annoy the other users with any kind of lack of writing ability. If you take your roleplaying as seriously as you say, then there's no reason why you should have any problems present with your style.

User William, the William that is a member of the board (no weapons or skills what-so-ever), walks in the Sim-Battle Arena Rules, FAQ, and Complaints Department. Aparently he was really upset at something.

U William: "Ok, this is getting nuts! Battles are becoming ways of obtaining posts now, and I DON'T LIKE IT! A Sim-Battle is supposed to be a way to increase your ability to write, NOT to gain posts and grow in ranks. No wonder why the Sim-Battle is being shot down all the time! Look at this battle."
William clicked a button on his wristwatch, and a hologram of a battle showed up.
"This battle is just pathetic. Really. No really good posts there, it was way too short in both post wise and time to complete, and it was just horrible! Funny thing is nobody is taking action against them. I would at least tell them what a Sim-Battle should look like."

William cooled himself off for a minute. He decided to release his anger later, but now, he just awaited a response.

A telepathic message strikes the mind of UWilliam like the sound of metal scraping metal.

"Okay, new Fearless Leader, I have a job for you pal!"

Within seconds, a wavering figure has materialized in front of the recently promoted SB Local Mod. It's Schwa, complete with white, robelike cothes and a jet-black blindfold.

"Listen, I've just about had it up to here with some of the activity going on recently!"

Schwa hands UWilliam some photos. They are of many different kinds of sleek robots, the ones that call themselves "Ultra Navis."

"Fortissmo.EXE. Sigma.EXE. Juno.EXE. And many others it seems. They think they can barge their way into any thread, godmod, control the actions of others, decide if their attacks hit or not... Should I continue? Oh, and don't forget that I have a hunch that they could be the very same person!

"If you're our new Fearless Leader, prove it by investigating these cases. I know one of my friend's fights, Tuxydon vs. Snipes, was invaded by one of these posters. Check there if you will, it's labeled "Snipes looking for a battle". And there are tons of other threads that these posters have started as well. If you help me with these wisecrackers, you'll have my eternal respect from that point on. Goodbye."

And Schwa wavers out of existance, leaving cpubasic13 the echo of his most recent complaint.

I'm getting it all fixed up. I am giving him one last chance with only one name. Thing is, I don't know if he will get the message, since he doesn't log in to get messages...

His other accounts will be deleted... hopefully, and he will recieve a strike. If you want me too, I will delete the posts that correspond with that incident in that battle if you would like.

You know.... When I modded this place, you could have told me about this. I read all the battles, but I like to think I'm kinda lenient, if it's really pissing people off, notifying the proper authorities can help.

OK, I need to know something. I was simbattling FORTE.EXE, but since he's banned for a month, what will happen to the fight? should I write it off as cancelled, or wait, or what? I have one simbattle I would like to carry out, but right now i'm engaged in 3 simbattles as-is.

Alright, I may be new to these forums, but I'm not new to the concept of a Sim Battle. However, I do wish to ask permission if I may use my own set of rules for my own battles, with whoever happens to be fighting me's permission of course. I just despise the conventional, "I attack you" "lol, too bad, I dodge" tactics.

I find that I can be more descriptive, persausive, and an overall better writer and challenge when I can physical assault my opponent with a verbal sword strike. Please consider my request, and I'll even show you my rules. I can also show you many battles I've been in, to show, that I live up to my rules, that I'm not a cheap fighter, and that I do actually know what I'm doing.

Oh, and if someone asked this before me, sorry, I just didn't want to read through the whole thread looking for it.
