THE GUARDIAN LEGEND!!!!!! OMG IT RULES PLAY IT PLAY IT PLAAAYYY ITTTT! Folks, this game just kicks ass. It's just underrated. Part of it is a space shooter, but you have a health bar, you don't just die in one hit. Another part is Zelda-like, walking around worlds. It's just fun, and pretty long.
SMB series and Zelda series They're classics, and loads of fun. I don't think I need to go into too much detail here. Though I've never beaten either of the NES Zeldas. With the first Zelda, I can't go past the sixth dungeon, with those god damn wizards. I played my mom's game (she beat the whole thing with all of the secrets, it's crazy), but I couldn't even get to Ganon. I remember getting to Ganon as a kid with her file, but not knowing how to beat him at all. I bet I was just a better gamer ten years ago, ew. I could beat the first level of Astynax, which I can't do now. Of course now I only have the rom.. but yeah.
Jackal You're in this jeep, and you have to go around saving your POWs and kicking ass. You can also play simultaneously with a friend, which really makes it fun. It's challenging, and I usually don't like one-hit-and-die games, but this is just too fun.
Megaman 2 The only Megaman I ever beat.. after like ten years of owning the thing. Lots of people say it's the easiest, so maybe that's why. I love the music and just playing the thing over and over again. It's the only Megaman I owned growing up too, so maybe that's another factor.
Faxanadu I don't own this game anymore, argh. It was sort of like an RPG, and you go around kicking ass and collecting golds. Sorry this is stupidly vague. I had problems playing when I was little because I couldn't read. I remember wanting to use fire all the time and getting pissed that it wouldn't work (I must've been out of MP), and thinking the game was glitched. I played it a while ago again and I loved it.
Kirby's Adventure: I used to rent this all the time at Blockbuster. Then, when they were selling all of their NES games, I got my mom to buy it for me. For me it's second to Super Star in the best Kirby game.
Robin Hood It's dumb, but fun. I don't know why. I don't sound very convincing with these games, do I? It's pretty long and has replay value.
When I was little I loved Tiny Toons Adventures, though playing it about a year ago it seemed sort of lame.
Color a Dinosaur Need I say more?
Paperboy I sucked at this game as a kid, and I suck at it now, but damn it's fun. I played this non-stop when I'd go to my aunt's.

I've mostly played remakes/ROMs/arcades of NES games, but Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda were really awsome. The save feature in Zelda was revolutionary! It meant that gamers could actually take breaks to go potty instead of damaging their health waiting for Mario to find the darn princess!

Make sure you guys go into some detail, ppl. Here again, we have the classic example of a list thread. Those = bad.

I'm not exactly sure. I would be like Ash and support her TGL, but I haven't played it enough. If I had to pick off the top of my head, it'd more than likely be Tetris. The reason being? Oh, it's just ever since I've played that I've learned the art of pwn4g3.

Now, my answers are going to be from when I actually had an NES, back when I was younger, and not the ROMS that I'ev played today.

Also, I didn't play Final Fantasy on the NES, so I am not going to count those.

Too add, I was more of a Sega player back in the day, really, so if I make a mistake a throw in a Gensis game in my list, I am sorry.

With that being said....

The orginal Mario (I mean, nothing can beat a classic), the third Mario in that series (something about the desert, I don't know why, but I loved that board), and, ummm, well, it is early morning, so this is all that I can remember. Oh! But how could I forget Bubble Bobble.....I love that game so much! Its just one of those fun games that you can play with someone else.

Ah, those are bad here? Gotcha. Rules are different everywhere I go...

And if it's long-windedness you want, I'll give you long-windedness.

Final Fantasy 3 is, in my opinion, one of the best in the series beaten only by Final Fantasy Tactics. The only part I hated were the Mini dungeons, where you had to go through in Mini status.

SMB3... it's SMB3. Fun, challenging enough, and a lot of items. What else has to be said?

Zelda 2... it's different from the others, but that doesn't make it bad by any means. Pretty good graphics, and the hardest Zelda game I've played. Maybe it's because I'm more of a thinker than a fighter; not many puzzles in the game.

Zelda... Not as hard as Z2, and in the same style as LttP. A few items, eighteen levels, and for the time pretty good music.

SMB... Similar to SMB3, but simpler. Simpler isn't always bad, though. In this case, it's quite good. I remember 2-3... still I hate that level, still I curse under my breath every time a jumping fish hits me or screws up my jump. And 7-3's more of the same, but worse. Aside from that, fun game.

The Legend of Zelda
The best game of all time, need I say more?

The Legend of Zelda 2: Adventure of Link
A nice departure from the series, and a nice magic system.

Super Mario Bros. 3
Pure classic. Tanooki Mario is the coolest thing ever.

Tecmo Bowl
The pinnacle of sports gaming. Madden will never touch this. I will intercept your ass all day with Matt Millen.

Dr. Mario
Good game, I remember whooping on my dad as a kid. I'm still pretty decent at it.

Contra
Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start.

Mega Man 2
Kick ass platforming right here. And before that wussy sliding and charging up your Mega Buster.

Final Fantasy 3
I just recently 'acquired' this game, and it seems pretty sweet. I bet it would be even better fully translated.

Duck Hunt
Because I'm good at it. Or at least better than my friends.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Ha! Just kidding.

The Legend of Zelda - An incredible game. I remember staying up so late playing this game when I was a kid.

Zelda 2: Adventure of Link - Whenever I'd go over to my grandparents house they'd have this, and I'd play it nonstop. Definitely underated also.

Blaster Master - Think Metroid, but with a tank, and the ability to go inside the planet to an overhead perspective, with some of the best NES music ever. There you have Blaster Master.

Metroid - How can you not like this game? So unbelievably original, and the idea of having a huge world that was there for you to explore was just great at the time.

Kirby's Adventure - This game is just easily one of the most impressive NES games. It's huge, there's a ton to it. Levels are highly detailed, music is amazing, there's minigames, it's extremely long. Still to this day it's easily my favorite Kirby game.

Dr. Mario - I could get past level 20.

Mario Bros - This game was tough, but definitely a classic.

Super Mario Bros 1-3 - What can I say, I loved them all. SMB3 was easily the best (and still is). Don't give in to NSNick though, the Kuribo's Shoe beats out the Tanooki Suit!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - All 3 of them were good. The arcade one, TMNT 3, and the weird one that was sidescrolling and top down viewed when you were on the streets. Awesome awesome games.

Elevator Action - By far one of the most challenging games ever.

Megaman 1-6 - I rented these games as a kid more than any other game out there, and I owned a few. Megaman 2, 3, and 5 are my top favorites.

Kung Fu - An easy short game, but was extremely fun. Funny though, it's almost impossible to play now ... for me at least.

Duck Hunt - *puts the gun to the screen* Yeah, I rocked this game hard when I was like 4.

Battletoads - Such a painfully hard and awesome beat em' up.

Castlevania 1-3 - Great sidescrolling classics, with incredible music.

I'd probably say Final Fantasy 1-3, but I'm thinking of games I played back in the day, not now.

The NES was saweeeet ...

Here are a few of mine...

Bubble Bobble - I still have fun with this all the time! I loved the addictive fact of it.
Arkanoid - it was adictive..very much.
Tetris - I have every version of Tetris ever for NES and GB. I'm so weird
Super Mario Brothers for Super Players - I have the real SMB2. I like it too, so much more hard.
Adventures of Lololo - hey, this was a good game after all
Kirby's Adventure - My second Kirby game, and I was an addict then so I did love it much!
Punch Out - He.. stole my bike! but, this was a fun game.
Duck Hunt - I always tried to shoot the doggie when I was little. I still do hate him much
Base Wars - I think this is the best NES game ever
Bad Dudes - I am a bad enough dude to save he president. And I would never know if it was not because of this.
Dr. Mario - I like the Gameboy one better. They are the same thing but I'm a weirdo so ._.;
Metroid - This was sort of fun. I liked it a bit more when I was a little older.
Mach Rider - <3
Deadly Towers - I bought 3 so I could destroy them and take out their Famicom adapter. I did not actualy loose 3 dollars, in retrospect. That is the only reason I like that game.

There are a couple of Japanese games that I like, too. But you probably have never heard of them, so I will not bother

Adventures of Lololo

He *used* to go through life just fine with "Lolo" and not "Lololo" which is what Nintendo forced upon him. All 3 in the series are fine.

I'm going to add three Tecmo titles to the list for now.

Rygar - Rygar's a strange one since it's *not* a port of the arcade version, which is a fun straight-forward action game. This one's more of an adventure game (think PS2 Rygar) with a *great* soundtrack (given that the game's from 1986) and fun gameplay. If you're good, you can beat the game in a few hours but it's a fun little time. Plus you became stronger by defeating certain enemies and all. Good for its time.

Solomon's Key - I believe this version also came out for the SMS (which had a password system) but not on any other system (they got arcade ports instead). Again, different than the arcade version but with the same gameplay; build blocks, destroy blocks, grab items, get to the exit before the time limit expires or you die. Some levels in the game are from the arcade but others are unique, and there's a BUNCH of secrets too. More of an action game than a puzzle game since you can figure out the solution to most levels, but once you do it's a matter of avoiding enemies along the way.

Mighty Bomb Jack - NES exclusive I do believe. Basically a sequel to Bomb Jack, which is a really fun arcade game by itself. Game's split into two portions; side-scrolling where you have to get from Point A to B without killing yourself, and the Royal Palace Rooms, which are levels from Bomb Jack with the same rules applying (grab all the bombs to exit, grab lit bombs for more points/large bonuses). The final level's even longer depending on how many secrets you found... And of course, you can gain special powers by using Mighty Coins, but grab more than 9 (or grab enough Mighty Drink to boost your time over 99 seconds) and you head to the TORTURE ROOM (with a really loud "DOOOOOOOO" sound when the screen pops up) and need to survive that to restart the level without a life lost (but with all your Coins gone).

I own all three games and appreciate Tecmo a great deal because of them.

A few of mine:

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link- Okay, so there aren't any super-cool sequence-breaking tricks in this game. Still, it's a great change of change from the first Zelda, and stands as my second-favorite in the series. Going through it with a save-file (I believe it was the first game to have something like a "New Game +" mode) is arguably even more fun.

Battletoads- Jesus Christ people, it's really not as hard as your tortured childhoods lead you to believe. Hopefully some time soon I'll have a speedrun of all 12 levels to show you...recorded one earlier tonight in fact. Basically, one death (I actually die 3 times when I'm not fighting bosses, and a bunch of times on Robo-Manus and the Dark Queen) puts it into the "very good" category, as opposed to the "OMG you play this game too much" category. Ah well.

Marble Madness- Always good for a quick playthrough...some neat music and a unique concept mean I still plug it into my NES every now and again for a quick run.

Dragon Warrior III - Ah...such a beautiful RPG...with a wonderfully expansive world, nice difficulty curve that provides challenge throughout the game without cornholing you unlike some other games in the series *coughDWIIcough*, and insane potential for character customization. The music rules, too.

Crystalis - In 7th grade, I would run through this action RPG over and over and over again. I was usually listening to my Four Seasons CD at the time, and for years afterward, I would hear one of their songs on the radio and think of a certain part in the game. Yes, I was that addicted to it. I have this...thing for the comforting ritual of rereading a favorite book or replaying a favorite game umpty gazillion times. But it always pissed me off when the entire town of Shyron got DAS BOOT. I discovered that the people would lie there alive forever if you didn't talk to them, and after that, I always left them in that state.

Ultima: Quest of the Avatar - A fun RPG that's farking difficult but in a good way and takes half an eon to complete. I was lucky enough to rent this from Giant Eagle right before they went on strike, and because my dad wouldn't go in the store then, he let me keep it till the strike was over, which was at least a month. Talk about great timing for picking such a time sink of a game.

The Goonies II - Addictive side-scrolling action on a varied, convoluted map + first-person "puzzle" rooms where you might find hidden stuff + the Cyndi Lauper song = w00t.

I haven't played a whole lot of games, but I would have to say..

Startropics

It's some kind of action-adventure game, and it all pretty much plays out on islands and inside caves in the tropics. The action part of the game have you moving about in these caves, killing enemies, or finding switches to move on.

The game is kinda hard, I suppose, but it has an interesting storyline.

The sad thing was though, that I never got to complete the game on the actual NES (I made it to the final boss... then after a while, my NES broke down, and refused to work properly. ) But I have cleared it all now, thanks to emulation, but it was harder on the computer, due to the controls. :/
