What do you mean? Do you want to change the object he shoots or just change the graphic so it doesn't look like fire?

Interesting idea, but I'm not totally sure it's possible. Anyone know if the fireballs are technically considered a sprite? I know they have their own tables, so it could be a bit difficult...

I beleive they might be seperate, because then Nintendo could have simplified the programming for the firey pirhana plant by reusing the fireballs, (unless I have forgotten whether the plant has one sprite with variations or two sprites) but changing a byte during the sprite generation maybe to make them fall through the ground. I would think that they are seperate sprites, because they exist outside of mario's movements, which would move them too without the right programming.

lets say for a minute they ARE seperate sprites, and the sprite was somehow changed to a green shell, would the shell that mario shoots from his hand travel along the ground straight, or would it bounce up and down like the fireball? also, would it break when it hits into a wall, or would it bounce like a normal shell? basically what i'm asking is, would changing the sprite number just change the GFX or would it change its behaviour too?

It would appear in front of Mario and fall towards the ground. When it touches the ground, it will... (Drumroll) Do nothing!

But heres the thing. You can change the properties of how the fireball comes out which I changed already because I have my fireball coming out straight in the sky and on another rom I have it falling straight in front of me so I am ready to change that damn fireball! LOL

EDIT: And since people are acctualy saying if I changed the fireball it would go right to the floor, here is the ROM addresses to change at your own will to make that fireball go wherever you want: 80C5 and 121D4

And I changed 80B6 to I think it was 66 so the sound a fireball makes sounds like the fire noise from the bowser statues. If anyone knows which is the bomb sound it would be appreciated.

Perhaps you can add a routine in pressing the B button to trigger the fireball that would make the shell think mario kicked it, so if you changed the sprite from a fireball to a shell the shell would slide forward instead of do nothing.
