Yeah, he did...

And DarkDaiz, it looks awesome-just like Mario Adventure. You're a very experienced hacker, I'll tell you that.

I'm interested in this, all right, and it's pretty hard to impress me, too. If you used a Hex Editor to do the seasons and dungeon lighting and skills and underwater meter, then I'll remain a noob forever. I take pride in my ability to make levels from scratch, but realistically I know only a little bit of code and absolutely nothing about hex strings. Great job for surpassing me.

--Schwa

P.S. Maybe after you finish this hack, you could release a tutorial for how to make some of the changes in this hack (not seasons, since that's what the game revolves around). I'm sure many people out there would love to learn dungeon lighting or how to do boss meters, or make new power-ups. I'd absolutely LOVE to learn to make new powerups. I'd lay down a Boomerang Suit before you know it, then I'd put Koopa shells inside ? blocks.... ....

You can do a lot of small ASM hacks that add up by changing just 1 byte in the game. I'm documenting a lot of the game's data and routines to make it easier for people to make a better hack outside the current editor limitations. As for sending out tutorials to do the more complex things, that's something I'm not really willing to do since it involves ASM hacking and basically figuring out how a game works. This is general knowledge you can obtain from learning how to ASM hack. But my notes will lead you to the right direction without having to spend days looking at disassembled code. And as for the seasons aspect: There won't be a seasonal aspect. I said this before but I guess it's easy to over look. I took that out because it limited the level themes and ideas I could have (I mean a beach looks the same in winter, fall, summer or spring). Since I'm positing in here, I'll post a few screens of something I was working on yesterday.

Yes, that's a thwimp, but more importantly, he's breaking blocks. I won't say anymore

I'll start this off by adding to the pile of "This game looks great!"

That aside, I know this may be jumping the gun a bit, but after this is finished I'd love to see a Wario Land styled game. With the whole aim to collect treasures, multiple paths to find with secret exits, and invulnerability! And the timed powers and such. Just seems like something to consider when this has run its course.

DarkDiaz, do you have any target release date for this massively ambitious hack? Early/late next year, maybe?

As is Secretary of the Press, I'll answer that question for him. The answer is, he plans on releasing it before he dies.

You can attack with it in the normal game. Although, an invincibility style hack for it would be cool.

When it's done... but I do hope it won't be another Duke nukem forever.

So you basicall bounce around as statue? It's like the "spinning mario" in SMW? Or does it works little diffrent?

No, see, in SMB3, when you had a tanooki suit, you pressed the buttons to turn into a statue. Same thing here, except the statue breaks certain blocks now.

And it looks like a thwimp, which instantly makes it a million times better.

lol, exactly what weasel said. You can't move around (yet, if at all) as thwimp, but it's an extra ability added to Tanooki Luigi. It seems I won't be overhauling power-ups this time around, but rather, adding to them, fleshing out their possibilities. So far, each new ability mainly lets you access normally-unaccessible areas. Like in 1-3, Frog Mario can swim under a long water passage. Since its so long, Luigi would normally run out of breath, but Frog Mario can breathe underwater. As for a release date: hahahahahahaha. I'm not even close to finishing the first world. Granted, this hack may be better than Mario Adventure, but it won't necessarily talk as long, since hacking it this time around is a bazillion times easier than before. But, as a bit of advertising here, those who visit #rom-hacking on irc.us.forgetit.net sometimes get handed demos to test out for me and give me feedback

No don't do that Wlokos! Just because I plug in tons of ASM changes to my hacks into SMB3 doesn't mean you should quit hacking SMB3. Really good level design is probably more wanted them omg-cool-asm hacks. Rom hacking is about remaking the old classics. I'm going beyond that and re-designing classics, so really, what I'm doing is a bit beyond normal rom hacking's goal. So keep hacking to your hearts desire and don't worry making omg-huge-wtf chagnes to your hack. Keeping the classic feel is important, just as long as you can make people relive old games through modified graphics, levels and the like

I agree with DahrkDaiz. Lots of ASM hacking is cool, but I'm happy just playing totally fresh levels that are designed well.
