Depends, do you want to pay every month for an MMORPG?

I haven't played either of them yet, but I heard that WoW is amazing, and Guild Wars is okay, but it lags from time to time. Of course, that could just be a rumor.

I refuse to vote.

This is one of the biggest debates in mmorpgs right now. Personally, I think it's kind of off pitting the two against each other because they're completly different games. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. What one lacks, the other one has. What one has, the other one lacks.

Do what I did and get both. The best part about this is that you'll still only have to pay one monthly fee and you'll get to experience two very outstanding games.

I will say that if pvp is your main concern, then I would go with Guild Wars because thier system is much more oriented towards pvp (and does a better job at it to).

I consider Guild Wars to be a single player RPG with mandatory multiplayer support. It's not quite an MMORPG, since you can solo a lot, from what I've seen.

However, since this is not a 'Which is better' thread, I'll say Guild Wars if you want to pay once and like soloing, and WoW if you don't mind a fee and more heavy MMO support.

Whoah....

Guild Wars is more group oriented and not so solo friendly. I found that it practically forced you to group (like FFXI) if you wanted to actually get anywhere.

As for WoW, it's easy to solo and in fact, it's the fastest way to level up.

Yes, we've all seen arguments like this before. Legion is correct, no matter what anone says.

The games are different, I don't want to see a bunch of arguments like I did when WoW came out. (God WoW vs FFXI made me mad... and I still see it.)

Oh, if you don't have a credit card or some way to pay constantly, get Guild Wars.

I've heard that with both MMORPGs, you have to group, just like in EQ2, if you want to get anywhere and if you want to live. If you like solo work (which I do), go for City of Heroes. As of right now, I've been doing nothing but solo work.

I say World of Warcraft because while both of them got boring and lame after a few weeks, I spent more time with WoW... and YES I know what WoW has to offer... in WoW, I had a 32 Human Paladin, 23 Tauren Shaman, 22 Human Rogue, and level 16 Orc Warrior.

Well, really, it depends on what you like.

For World of Warcraft, do you enjoy a full fledged game with tons of levels, quests, items, and lots of neat stuff?

For Guild Wars, do you prefer to go a bit more strategic?

Maybe it's like Power vs. Strategy. Do you prefer being stronger or do you prefer having different tactics to deal with the enemy?

wow = monthly fee
GW = no monthly fee.

That's a big factor.

I went with GW since there's no monthly fee.

And tied again! XD

I like GW for not having a monthly fee, I despise that. Also the new story captivated me more than WoW, despite me having the WoW when it came out in the beta stage. *shrugs*

I didn't play that much GW, since I'm having a necro/priest at level 5, but until you reach destroyed Ascalon, the quests are piece of cake; I mostly soloed them without major problems, now it gets harder with a "single party". That's the way a MMORPG should go, obviously

I dislike the targeting system. Unlike in RO for example, you first have to select the enemy and press the acording skill-button or numeral on the keyboard then. Okay, that's just a matter of customization, yes
The quests are played in instances, so you only meet people when being in towns. When you enter a quest, you/your party plays their "own" dungeons and such. That's nice to prevent that "OMG LUTER DONT TEK MI GOLD U GEI" by foreign people and such, on the other hand it sucks when people simply go out of quests and the situation changes, when you have only two instead of five people left inside a quest.
Then there's nothing to grit the teeh or to cancel and restart that quest.

Good is the graphics and the music somehow is silent, but usually fits the atmosphere.
The catacombs near the city Aschfurt (in the German version, don't know the name in other languages - maybe all share the same names) are huge - good is also the marker on your mini-map, showing were to go.

Since I didn't get WoW, due to the monthly cost (I don't have experience in MMORPGs - so I wanted to pay for one of these once and could it play whenever I want, without additional fees) - I cannot compare that with WoW.

So, as a recommendation: Guild Wars is not bad at all. If you like to strategally plan on using your skills (there's even an option to revert used skill points back - of course that is limited too. So if you miss-skilled a character - simply put the points somewhere else ) and you like MMORPGs - get Guild Wars.

Regretably, I've not played either, and while I think it's neat that Guild Wars has a one time fee more or less, I've had more friends who ended up going to WoW free servers instead of sticking to GW, even after plunking their cash into it. =\

It's the exact opposite for me, nearly all my friends on another RO server went to GW, so I said why not.

Well, Cy's right. GW does allow you to solo... sort of. The henchmen will work great to a certain point, so you can still "party" without actually playing with a real person.

Anti-social nerdiness online. It's so horrible tragic.

Careful, all the people who left WoW for GW have since left in boredom and came crawling back to WoW.

It goes both ways, from what I've seen (however I know a lot of people who come to GW just because there's no monthly fee).
