I didn't know anything about PHP until summer 2000, and it was already at version 4 by then (then slowly got to version 5) Interesting though that it was nothing at all like now at first and didn't even stand for the same thing, then grew into a popular C-like scripting language ... I never bothered to check on PHP's history either, and hadn't heard of anything older than PHP 3 |

It just goes to show how long it takes for software to completely mature, since the language was still seriously lacking in a lot of ways (namely its mediocre support for OO) until PHP5 came out. I still consider PHP3 to be the first real version of the language. |
