I didnt put it in an already made thread, because they are basically dead...and because this is really cool... I just saw it on AOTS.... Info came right from a nintendo representative "People sort of picked on us for not prematurely jumping into online or internet gaming," he mused, going on to point out that now the company has more to offer besides online gaming. Harrison then confirmed that past-gen, Nintendo-created titles will indeed be downloadable for free. This is a clever move by Nintendo: regardless of the final power of Revolution and the frequency of new titles, Nintendo knows that its loyal fans will cry tears of joy over a free service that lets them download previous Nintendo classics straight out of the box. A similar model applies to online gaming. Playing Nintendo titles across the internet will be free, whereas third-party publishers will be able to charge whatever subscription rates they wish. " article was found on this page: http://gamesradar.msn.co.uk/news/default.asp?pagetypeid=2&articleid=36071&subsectionid=1587 on AOTS they talked to the vice president I think...and they will have online play for free, for online games also...and they said that old games are most likely going to be free, or insanely cheap...as they "dont believe in charging their gamers for online play, like microsoft does" I think is what the quote was...or something similar. Ok, who's the fucker who laughed at me when I said "If it costs more than 5 dollars, I'm not buying."? (For the classic Nintendo games) Step forward so I may berate you mercilessly. Was it you Hyperhacker? WAS IT?! |

Well, it was expected. It didn't really came as a surprise, just a confirmation on what people thought it would be. "Third-party developers could charge for the privilege to download though. Or, alternatively, they could offer downloadable classics as an incentive to buy their next-gen full price releases." Heh, well some Gamecube games had NES games as a unlockable Bonus. So it 's not like the "buy that, get the NES game for free" is a new concept. And don' forget that Zelda collection disc with Zelda and Zelda II. Pretty confident that Nintendo will do good in the next generation if it's as good as they promise. |

You have to wonder if companies are going to make "Retro console" games for download. Like extra levels or newly made NES/SNES games entirely. Maybe unreleasted games too. Mmm, Starfox 2... |

(this is one of several comments saying basically the same thing on Joystiq, and other sites.) "ugh... I hate how internet rumors start. This was simply Gamesradar reading the (several-day-old) Gamespot interview and miscomprehending the quote. Harrison did *not* say the games would be free, he said the ability to get online would be free, and they were still deciding whether to charge for the games or not." oops? |

"""on AOTS they talked to the vice president I think.. they said that old games are most likely going to be free, or insanely cheap..""" notice how I said that....the article was a little off, but on the show, they said they contacted the vice president, or someone high up in nintendo, and she said that they will either be free, or as cheap as they can make them...either way, it sounds good. |

Saying and doing are two different things in business. Saying can hurt someone if nothing gets doing. |

I haven't heard any reliable sources say that the games will be free. Best I found was stuff saying that *some* games will likely be made free as part of promotions, special offers, etc... then again, they have at least a year to figure out which companies are in and what the costs should be. | |||

Originally posted by Ten Better yet, Seiken Densetsu 3. I'm still undecided whether or not to believe this, I'd like more sources. But, it won't surprise me if the majority of the games will be downloadable for free. I'm sure that would be an extremely smart move on Nintendo's part and would probably boost Revolution sales just for this. |

Originally posted by Ten Oh god, my pants. ...You don't suppose they might even have like level editors for them? Nah, who am I kidding. Just seeing an official SMB3 or SMW hack with the quality of some of today's would kick so much ass though. (It always bugged my why Nintendo never seemed to use the full graphical potential of their consoles... So many old games' graphics can be significantly improved without any change in the file size.) |

I would doubt the "new games" theory but you never know. Maybe if a developer gets realllly bored. But odds are they'd want to focus efforts on next-gen stuff. Nintendo could always offer a version of SMB3 with the extra GBA levels, for instance. Or the bonus Yoshi's Island levels from SMA3. |

We think about it. When N64 was out, there was the GBC, when the Cube came out, there was GBA, now there's the DS with the Revolution not far behind. Think of it as a promotional tool. Story fillers, simple contests, etc. Developers could use old paltforms for simplistic gameplay, going back to two dimisions. And think, they could the DS as special controller for the online play. As these new fingled controllers are complacated for most 2D games, with the touch pad it becomes less. As funtions there can be clearly stated at times, unlike "USE L1 TO ADJUST YAW" which would be restricted to being stated in booklets and training levels. Heck the touchpad could be used to as a key board for old games converted for online play. What I'm saying is, Nintendo has stayed off the online bandwagon, I don't think it's going to avoid pulling out all the stops now that it is. (edited by Ten on 06-04-05 08:25 PM) |

Nobody post about the "221 Game List from Famitsu" because it's fake as hell, I looked at the real Famitsu article and it doesn't have a list of games... all I saw was Super Mario Bros., Final Fantasy V, and some other game... (edited by Ralphy Boy on 06-05-05 05:34 PM) |
