everything looks marvelous only one minor problem, the 11th screen i noticed the new gfx for the stairs.. they seem a bit out of place ,it kind of grabs my eye as if somethings wrong i think the outline being far to black shoul be changed to mesh in with the dirt on the wall, what say you seph?

I'm not too sure what you meant, so I made a mockup.

^^ Would this be any better?

Impressive...Wouldn't have expected the evergreens to fit in as well as they do. I'm generally not a fan of Capcom's Zelda graphics, but those work rather well. As far as the stairs go, I don't think they're too out of place, they just look more man-made, I guess, as the houses and fences all have that sort of black outline that sets them apart from the rest of the scenery, though you could make it a little more fluid by putting an edge on them, instead of having them run right into the side of the hill. One thing about the stairs, though, is that they do seem kind of off, as they're at a perfect 45 degree angle, which doesn't mesh with the weird angle used in the perspective of the game. Maybe try offsetting each step only 4 pixels from the previous one, instead of 8.

Another thing that deserves applause is that it seems you got rid of the annoying submenu for the bottles and most of the text in the menus, which seemed really out of place in the original. Your Inventory screen looks at least as professional as the original, if not moreso, particularly with where you show the name of the selected item. Great job.

I do have to agree with eternaldragonx a bit.

After looking at it, it does seem as if the steps themself are "overlapping" the wall they're coming out of, the rock there.

Just something that I kind of noticed. It only stands out if I really look at it personally, so it's not anything too major I'd say.

I'm working only on this lone project.. Consider this my first and last attempt at releasing something.

How much more done? I hate fake percentages so I'll go this way:

- I have the lightworld finished
- The darkworld well underway >will be finish by the end of the month<,
- The three light world dungeons and the intro mini-dungeon are done aswell.
- The first two dungeons of the dark world are finished.
- The houses interiors are done.
- Obliviously, the world maps are finished.
- Same goes for the menus, overlays, title screens.
- Some monologue has been edited >nothing major<
- Most graphics have been changed.
- Link's sprite was changed aswell.

So in other words, what will be left to do are:

- Finish the dark world.
- Finalize the remaining dungeons.
- Spend a lot of time fixing bugs in HEX (Like the doors exits and such).
- Finish the monologue part (Story etc..).
- Edit the ending messages when you get the triforce/credits in HEX.
- Have the dungeon maps/properties done.
- Playtest/Beta test the game.
- Release.

That's about it for the remaining stuff. That's a hell of stuff, but I gotta finish it anyway.

If you were to release it as is this would still be a mammoth of a hack.

Don't feel rushed take things slow and get it done when you get it done. No point feeling pushed to release anything like a demo. always gets in the way.

I think the steps are fine if you want to leave them the way they currently are but i can also see what people are getting at. The "man-made" look of them makes them stand out more. Maybe a simple brightning up of the black lines would make them fade into the background more.

Still cannot see the difference between the original and your mockup though.

PS. Downloaded the guide to HM. Definately a brilliant piece of work. Been a while since i looked at it last. Shitloads of information to look through.

It'll get done when it'll get done, sure thing. I'm not rushing it and sometimes I've been taking monthly breaks before touching HM again.

As for the steps fix, I'll add them to my TDL.txt (To Do List) that I put in stuff that'll be fixed in the end. Before the release that is

About the HM guide, that was in my honest opinion a necessary thing to be done. When I first started it, I gathered everything I could find across the boards, the web and sometimes from Z3 hackers themselves. I'm happy you find it usefull as I sometimes use it aswell (Can't know everything by heart like hex adresses and such...). But it really helps knowing where to go.

I agree with you there. I used to have one massive excel file of data and maps stored for when i needed to reference something. Lost that when my hard drive went down last year. Not a problem though with the guide. If / When i get back into hacking itll be handy.

What to say... I never thought hacking the dark world would of been this easy...

About four days in the making and almost complete already. Actually I just need to fix two more things and it's done. No screens yet as I feel lazy to go get some in game, but stay tuned and I'll post a few in the next few days.

Next on the program, are the dungeons. I'd have to say that I have quite a good amount of them already planned on paper, but now I just need to insert them in HM. Yes, doing everything on paper before actually doing it in the editor really helps. (Been like that with my overworlds too and I believe Omega does the same thing aswell).

The planning on this hack is far better then what I had done with Lyra Islands, so a few more months to finish the dungeons and I'll have more then 3/4 of the hard job done. (Monologue editing beeing a long part aswell).

The rest will be further more easy. I just hope I don't have a hardrive fKitten Yiffer by then

Backup mate its vital. I moved to uni my hard drive broke and i lost my backup cd which was a real bastard! Teaches me to buy seagate hard drives! Damnit.

At least i learn from my mistakes.

Your speed is inhuman SePH.

I don't think I've ever seen edits of the Dark World from you, I remember all your work on Lyra Islands and things like that though, and they kicked ass (Your overworld work has always been great).

So I'm with others here, and am anticipating the Dark World teaser pictures.

Here's a teaser for you guys:

Some notes:

Link bunny sprite is going to get revamped to fit with the rest when I get time.

1st and 2nd screens: Not much to say here...

3rd and 4th: The Twin Pyramids area with a walk in the desert...

5th: The ice palace is here again, but now spawns an entire area across ice isles...

6th: The purple trees of the dark forest are one of the two things I'm working on finishing/changing (The other thing beeing the lava of the volcano >similar to what I've done with Lyra Islands but far better).

That's about it for DW screens.

Some problem I'm currently facing through:

The light world castle doors lock themselves after a certain event, so that you can't go back in it (Like the main game). Thing is, I wanna make a certain return further in the game when the player gets far better items.. (Some replay quests that is). So I'd like to know if it's possible to get rid of that door locking system.

As far as i know, they lock only when you place them in the same area.... i have no problems using them afterwards... unless you've tried it already.

The certain event is the defeat of agahnim.

Ok!

Can't you just make ANOTHER entrance that can only be reached when you have a certain item? Flippers for example.

Damn SePH you bitch they are too good! Nice touch with the triforce pyramid.

I was thinking the same thing about the entrance. Perhaps just a tunnel that leads back into the castle that can only be navigated once you have every item.

I don't know why but I find the Pyramid with the bridge across the water to be fascinating.

Awesome work SePH, really good stuff here.

Clueless on the question though.

It seems that Seth is going to extend the role of Bunny Link in this hack. Cool.

Here's something I wanted to ask. In the original game, the player can press a button to activate a map of the light and dark worlds. Are you going to change that map so that it corrresponds to the new overworld?

From what I remember you can very well edit the map of the two worlds in HM. Wouldn't it just correspond to the game also, when you bring it up?

I can't really say I guess, I never touched the "maps" when I used to mess with HM.
