Been a while since I've posted here about my hack. However I feel like now is the time to show some progress. First off, since last time, I've re-done the light world almost entirely. I've kept the best and made some more interesting areas.

This time it's official that I won't work on it again. The only thing which remains to do is place the sprites, entrances/exits and such to their proper places. Since about a week through I'd say the pace of hacking have fastered even more. Instead of working long days on the hack, I do about four areas a day and the same for the dungeons. That way, I feel relaxed, have still plenty of time for my other hobbies and still have ideas. (Working too much tends to give me blank ideas..). Here's a sheet of screens (Yes. I felt like it wasn't necessary to make plenty of pics links).

Some Notes about the screens (Starting with the top ones obliviously):

3rd and 4th: That's the new menu I made. The good thing is that it doesn't hurt the eyes like my past attempts.

5th: The inventory as it will look in-game. (Still beeing worked on at the moment).

6th: Same as above, but this time it's the overlay as we will see it. (Again this is beeing worked on).

7th>12th: Screens from the light world. (Note that I didn't included the overlay on them since I said it was a W.I.P).

Anyway, unlike past times I won't state any release date since I truely don't know when I will release it. This game sure is long to hack, but even more to test anything.

Since you've shown it....

Here's a more "accurate" version of the subscreen (since he's used more than 4 colours on some tiles in that pic which is not possible) and also the maps/compass are missing in that pic.

and yes i know the shovel is suppose to be there in that gap.

Thanks for the support everyone. I really see a good progress in my skills since last year.

For the inventory Euclid, Looks even more good then the last thing you showed me a while back. I can't wait to see the progress on the overlay aswell. Meanwhile while you're here, there's something I need to ask you:

^^ I'd like to change the "COPY OK" text to the more appropriate "Copy file". Of course change the palettes so they are black/white as well.

^^ Same as above, but this time I'd like to have the "ERASE THIS PLAYER" text to be "Erase file".

These can't be changed in HM as far as I know, so maybe they are in the monologue somewhere. Either way I can't say I'm much advanced in that stuff.

As for a demo, I'd love to do one. Thing is, I prefer to release this monster of a game as a whole. This going to take a while, but when everything be finished, it'll be further more enjoyable for some.

Alright guys, from about one month from now I'll have the Dark World finished aswell. Right now I'm giving a finalizing touch to the lightworld sprites/entrances/exits/bird locations/holes/items and such. Thing is, I have absolutely no idea how to edit the whirpools properties to make them linkable between each other.. Any idea anyone?

I didn't realise that. That's a really good idea actually.

I'm still working on the dark world ones. Currently I have no idea whatsover whether I'll keep the tree bases the same or change them. I was planning on having a mix of MinishCap trees with the base of the LTTP original trees, here:

The palettes sure are to be edited through. And the edges themselves need to be anti-aliased.

I recon you should keep the base of the trees the way they are. One of the reasons i love your graphics for the overworld is that its updated but still has references to the original rom. Im not really a fan of complete overhauls.

In the end its up to you SePH im sure your overworld will rule no matter what.

Ah, a word from the man who inspired me to Z3 hacking itself!

I'll sure take it in consideration, especially from someone of your rank. Which by the way reminds me of the old Zelda hacking section that was buried in the older versions of this board: http://web.archive.org/web/20030323164942/acmlm.overclocked.org/board/forum.php?id=33...

Dark World progress so far: I have finished the pyramid and volcano areas.. Two big 4 areas squares.. That's good progress in one day and I'm sure it'll go well with the rest of that world.

A thing through that I quit searched for a long time, is the palettes for the grass. Meaning that it's NOT in HM. You sure can change most green colors, but still the one for the grass can't be changed successfully. Here's what I mean:

You see in that pic, changing the grass palette only affects the overall surrounding. But the tiles of the trees/flowers etc... remains with that green palette. I wish I could have a more distinctive palette for my volcano area, but this is not possible because of that.

Wow all the old stuff. Walk down memory lane for a lot of people especially those who are wicked with HM nowadays.

For the tree grass sections couldnt you use something like SNESpal to search through the pallettes. Lengthy i know but its got to be in there somewhere.

d4s to the rescue!
the grass color is hardcoded and different depening on the current enviroment.
no matter how long youre gonna search the palettes, you wont find it.
that wasnt a good suggestion, neonswift.
look for code that first does

ldx #$2669,

then writes this to $7e:c500.

$2669 is the color value.

this is where the normal light overworld color is loaded: SNESLO $0B/FEA9
just change it to any color you like.
im sure you can find the rest yourself.

heres the code snippet for that:

$0B/FEA8 A2 69 26 LDX #$2669 A:002C X:0000 Y:00FF P:envmxdizC
$0B/FEAB A5 8A LDA $8A [$00:008A] A:002C X:2669 Y:00FF P:envmxdizC
$0B/FEAD 29 40 00 AND #$0040 A:002C X:2669 Y:00FF P:envmxdizC
$0B/FEB0 F0 03 BEQ $03 [$FEB5] A:0000 X:2669 Y:00FF P:envmxdiZC
$0B/FEB5 8A TXA A:0000 X:2669 Y:00FF P:envmxdiZC
$0B/FEB6 8F 00 C5 7E STA $7EC500[$7E:C500] A:2669 X:2669 Y:00FF P:envmxdizC

WoW d4s! You really don't know how long I've been waiting for this! Actually I never bothered asking it.. I think I shoulda done it way before. Thanks

BTW, I continued my work on the dungeons today. I feel like I'm getting better everyday. Shouldn't take long before I get as much better as the overworlds. Screens should follow next week (No editing for me on the weekend).

Haven't seen you in awhile NEON.
(<--Xeogred)

As always SePH your graphic works are very impressive. I'm really looking forward to this hack.

I really like the new Name Menu screen, as well as the new graphics on the trees.

Sorry, no real input here I guess. But yeah, just keep up the good work.
