Why would you think that telnetting into an irc network/server would be any less difficult than using mIRC? mIRC is as easy and simple as it comes. | |||

I heard something a while back about connecting through SSH (basically the upgraded and more secure telnet), but I could never quite figure it out. At that point I was trying to skirt a firewall on my campus connection. I eventuallyz gave up and decided to set up a VPN instead. So yeah, I've heard it's possible, but I think to do something of that sort you'd have to have some sort of script, and permission to access the irc network at a high level, like IRCop. The grand majority of users don't have the access priviledges to do that. If you don't like mirc, you could download hydraIRC, or use Mozilla or Firefox's Chatzilla. If you have Mozilla it's already installed, I believe. If you have Firefox it's available as an extension. Mozilla's doesn't have timestamps, but Firefox's smiley graphics suck. Of all three I'd recommend hydraIRC for features and the Mozilla ones for convenience. (edited by MathOnNapkins on 05-23-05 12:05 PM) |
