| Let me clarify: my second post was not meant as an attack on any specific person. Instead, I was trying to comment on the fact that that calling something a permaban (or permanent ban) is pointless if the ban is not permanent. Thats just logic. Maybe these bans should be renamed "until we're convinced otherwise bans"? Edit: Yes, I know I'm arguing semantics, but I also know that there are many people on this board who agree with me. The core of it was this: His perma came out of nowhere and was based on his past behavior (Which it took him less than five posts to regress to). I disagreed with this, but only on the grounds that we could have simply waited for him to make a post like what I linked to and gotten him then, rather than doing it proactively. And there was the whole IRC thing...suffice to say I knew exactly how that was going to play out, and it did. |

| You and Knuck seem to have a love-hate sort of relationship that changes on an hourly basis, and I have no idea how serious any of it is. That Manda thing is interesting. As far as I understand what led up to that, she was all happy-go-lucky at one point, then went utterly postal at some point which led to her getting banned. For some reason, I don't remember this new chapter in the legacy...roughly when was it? |

Of course, there's also the faction that can't take ANYTHING even REMOTELY serious on this board. To them, it's alwyas supposed to be fun and spam. Something serious comes up, and they go all "OMG DRAMA LOOK AT THAT THREAD". Hiryuu was a big contributor on that one. Do you even know what drama IS? Drama - I'd be hard pressed to apply ANY of those definitions to what's going on here. I can think of a few other good words, though... |

| I know precisely what Drama is. It's a 1980 Yes album with Trevor Horn on Vocals, Geoff Downes on Keyboard, Chris Squire on Bass, Steve Howe on Guitar, and Alan White on Drums. One of their best and most underrated albums. No, but seriously, the problem isn't so much that the serious issues AREN'T drama per se, but rather that they erupt into such and almost invariably devolve into personal attacks as two sides each attack the other. As far as the comparison to GameFAQs goes, you're right in that this is a much smaller community, and is thus of a more personal nature in terms of staff interaction with regular posters. But my point was that the staff of GameFAQs gives more "last chances" than the United Nations gave Saddam Hussein. Regardless of whether the bans in question were just or not--and I've already given my opinions on that based on what I know--a so-called "perma-ban" is slowly starting to have less and less meaning here, and I'd rather not the perception of staff be a bunch of spineless jellyfish who are afraid to stick to their guns when it comes to bans (A la GameFAQs). This is, admittedly, a somewhat seperate issue from whether said bans are just or not, but it's another one that I feel should be addressed. |

Did anyone forget that Manda came to the old board back in 2004 and did flame both Anya and Hiryuu? She got permabanned for that, althought it is debatable if it was enough for a permaban. And well, I wouldn't mind her unbanned now. As long she keeps herself calm.  I talked with her now and then back then so I never had any personal grudge against her. | Just grasp that there never can be nor never will be any sort of "Permaban" on ANY message board. IPs change, ISPs change, people can return time and time again ANYWHERE without ever being caught, the only giveaways being the names, layouts, or the person admitting it. The concept of a permaban is stupid anyway. Unless the person has actually tried to hack the board, a permaban is overkill. It's like giving a shoplifter the death penalty. Or, in the cases of Legion, knuck, and Manda, it's baiting them to shoplift and then giving them the chair, or not even waiting to see if they DO try to grab something and stuff it down their pants. This board doesn't have true justice, nor can it ever. It's an internet message board. |
