I actually enjoyed the simple non-shaded sonic sprite you started out with, but your new one is just as simple and nice on the eyes.

The only suggestion I can think of is for your background there, where the waves stop and the light blue begins and goes to the bottom of the screen... perhaps you could darken that light blue up to match the darker blue of the above, so it won't look like the water 'just stops'.

Looking good so far.

My suggestion would be to make the BG smoother, gradient-like near the top, and to strech the sea MAP16 out a bit and if possible tile some of the sea bits to make it fit better.

The Sonic on the second screenshot you just provided looks flat. You should at least put black lines around him.

But I like the first Sonic better.

Holy shitaki mushrooms. If not for the scorebar I'd have thought you were hacking Sonic. Only problem is that SMW's physics are nowhere close to Sonic's... and the music is different... and the SNES doesn't have any native sprite rotation system (for the loops) meaning you'd need to use some sort of expansion chip which are very sparsely documented. (Or a big, slow, math-heavy ASM hack.)

or you could store sprites of all angles.. or to cheat sprites of only a few angles....which would require ASM to figure out what angle number your at and have it select the correct set of sprites.
it wouldn't affect performance since sprites are loaded from the ROM every single frame right now anyways within the SMW Engine
now that i think about it isnt there already a few angles that are within SMW already? The "Triangle" shaped block that allows you to run on the side of walls must use at least 2 angles (normal and sideway)...i havent checked but it might also cover the angle in-between (45 degrees)...so right now it only covers more than half the loop if the 45 degree is covered...so it would be a matter of doing the ASM to cover upside down and upside down at 45 degrees and of course having the triangle block tool allow the extra two angles...

Even though you don't have the loops, I am still quite impressed... You have taken one game and edited it so much that it hardly looks like the original at all, wich few have done. Edit the score board a bit and I will be even more impressed. Speacking of the score board you do realize the lives counter still says "M x" right?

A few more suggestions:

-Change the BG, please, the goal here [i think] is to make this look like sonic, if you must rip, then go right ahead, but just don't use BGs with actual symbols from other games.

-Change the part of score board where it says "SCORE", change the font/color or hell make it say points or somthing. Basicly do whatever it takes to get rid of every single thing that looks like it came from Mario. Seriously, edit the fuck out of that score board so that it looks as different as possible from SMW.

-Theres no time limit in sonic, so I think you should get rid of that, just do some asm to give you unlimited time to complete a level and delete that part of the scoreboard all together.

-I know you probly won't go for this one at all, but why not edit the gfx you have riped a bit to make them look like your own original creations, of corse it wouldn't really be sonic game then, it's just going to be strange playing a sonic game with mario's physics. But it would be awsome to play a game that looks nothing like the original, and that has great level design [from what I see in the screens]

These are just some suggestions that would make the game more enjoyable to me, do whatever you'd like.

Sonic Games actually have a Time Limit of 10 Minutes for each Act.

And I wish you good luck at hacking.

Never heard of a Sonic MARIO GAME!!! I love it, it makes my hacking look like a wimp (Of course, I never submitted one) and all I'm saying on Improvements is:
Instead of Stars, put those INvincibilty boxes or something like that. Why is there a MUshroom anyways? But I like it!

Thank you all for your good suggestions,I will try make it feel like a real Sonic game,I will try to focus more on the level design. It may had some of mario elements because I'm thinking of making a Sonic-Mario game, but maybe I could make it like a traditional Sonic game(Sonic-Tails).

The sonic ain't so bad if you think of him in a Game gear way. Cause the Mario Sprite isn't big enough for the Genesis Sonic. Kind of alot of the graphics remind me of game gear and I'm fine with that cause I loved the game gear games. I would suggest a couple things tho. Why not keep all powerups from moving like a Fireflower. And change their graphics to those boxes that they usually use in Sonic games.

Edit: Why not go game gear on the game, you can rip alot of graphics from game gear and they would fit in with the rest easy. Replace all the enemies with Game gear enemies. Cause gamegear uses alot of the same enemies as the genesis does.

Not good. Fix it.

First, make the black part of the grass extend one 16x16 tile lower at least, so it looks like you actually have grass growing, Better yet, scrap that sandstone looking thing and start over.

Next, the background is dull. Darken it and add some features.

Ya, the sprite seems fine. As the person who just posted said. I hope you adjust the other graphics tho. It looks like it will be a fun hack cause your going all the way with it. No simple Sonic in Mario world hack. New graphics and such.

You should just put mario music in it, its too much of a hasle to play midis at the start of each level, especially if you using a controller and are not sitting at your desk, or if you play your roms over the xbox. But if you must why not release 2 versions?
