VIPer7, author of a rather kick-ass emulator-assisted 96-exit SMW run, has now also created a 120-exit video walkthrough for Super Demo World: The Legend Continues.

The runs are in Snes9X .SMV format, and are probably best watched on nitsuja's improved version of the emulator (based on 1.43 Final, but with some extra tweaks).

The DWTLC run is, to be honest, nowhere near as impressive as the SMW run. But at least it'll be of help to all the newbies that've made DWTLC threads here every 10 minutes, eh?

Wow, someone actually did a walk-through of SDW:TLC?

*downloads*

Wow, just wow. I wonder if anyone is going to record it into an .avi file or something? I hate having to view it in SNES9X every time I want to see it.

EDIT: I've tested it out... seems that I can record it as an .avi file with no problems, and it hasn't desync'ed for me. So I'm going to start recording it now, and hopefully by the time I come back from college, it would be nearly, or even finished.

EDIT 2: Boooo, it recorded 3 and half hours of nothing but black, and it was 4 GB in size. I must've missed something. T_T

too bad. DWTLC was too annopying for me, so I quit before I got to see anything nice. Oh well.

I never cared for Demo World. Sure, it was impressive at first, but if you take away the fancy ASM, all you have left is pretty graphics and bad level design.

I never understood why you say the level design is bad, Kyouji. =\

And I've already finished DWTLC... so I don't know if I really want this.

It has a pipe maze. It has a scrolling level where pretty much all you do is break bricks and burn ice. It has a level where you're forced to either die or do something ridiculous with podoboos. It has a level where ALMOST THE ENTIRE LEVEL IS BREAKABLE BRICKS. The list goes on and on here. Sure, it has its instances of fun, as does every hack (even Wario World), and perhaps most levels are fun (really, whenever I think about it I can only remember Boo world, Bowser's Castle (admittedly fun), and that list I made), but the fact that some levels are just unbelievably awful lowers the overall level design to "bad."

I agree with Kyouji, the level design just didn't speak out to me and actually pissed me off a bit. I'd rather play a level/overworld modifications only hack than an asm'd up the ass hack.

Same sentiments about Odyssey to a lesser degree.

Dunno if I would agree with you on that one. Odyssey had some dull stretches but overall I would say it was quite nice...

As far as I'm concerned, it had fewer fun levels than the original game, and if that holds true, it gets massive penalties on it's overall score.

It might have the best ASM, best graphics, best concept, best everything else you can think of, but if it doesnt have damned good level design and replayability, it isn't 'up there' so to speak.

Level design is dreadfully important. Without good level design you really would have to cover it up with graphics and ASM modifications.

So, yeah, DW: TLC has poor level design, but some of the levels were good and the ASM hacks were impressive...

...although all the graphics were rips...

I do. Oddessy was good, just DWTLC sucked IMO, because it was too hard.

You people are crazy. DW:TLC's level design was great, that's what made it better than most hacks out there. Pointing out a few levels you didn't like out of a hack with 70-80 levels and using that to generalize the hack's level design as "bad" is absurd. Although I'll admit my memory is rusty, I can't think of a hack with consistently better level design. Maybe SMWR or XSER are comparable.

I didn't liked that some levels were just hills with some randomly placed koopas & bombs... I think some enemies are overused.

& for the video (watched it to the end) - that guy uses cape 90% of the time
& how did he guessed all the pipe exits in Pipe Castle X_X

I didn't say that no parts of it were fun, and I didn't say that most of it was crap, but I hardly see how that changes the fact that some levels of it being the worst I've ever seen (if you exclude hacks like Wario World, I mean) lowers the overall a ridiculous amount.

In the movie, mario plays through the first level fine, and then just keeps killing himself in the second level! Anyone know what's wrong?

One of the reasons that everybody thought that DWTLC was so amazing was because it came at a time when most people thought that ExGFX rips were so amazing that if you made some you had to be good. And the ASM + custom blocks just put it WAY over the top. If he had released it now, I don't think the response would have been as good.

The video does that for me too, peter.

Well, I'm glad you admit that you're lowering the quality a "ridiculous" amount. The pipe maze level was not so terrible. The scrolling level with the alternating cape / fire flower blocks, I thought, was done very cleverly... especially for the secret exit. Same thing applies to the level with all cape blocks... though I'll admit that that's the most annoying one regardless. Part of what DW:TLC did very well was that it had a very good overworld and well-hidden secrets. I can't seperate these facts from level design so easily. There have been other hacks with great level design, but they just didn't have the right "feel" due to an overly-linear overworld or whatever that generally ruined the immersive experience. So to speak. I think DW:TLC captured this aspect perfectly.
