In school Zsnes and Snes9x are blocked. Yes, the actual thing. Is there another emulator with a save state option that I could try to see if it works at school? This would be a big help because there is nothing better to do at school during computer class. I do not usually do stuff so I need a good emulator with save state.

Thank you for your help!

Unless your administrators are knowledgable in emulation, I don't think they specifically blocked ZSNES or SNES9x. It's possible they blocked all unknown programs from running. In which case, another emulator will do you no good.

you could also try to rename the .exe into something is is permitted like winword.exe or wordpad.exe... But if they have paths to permitted programs, you are in trouble. The only way then to play emulation is to use Java

I can get an emulator to work. The problem, no save state. This means if I can't get to a save point before the period ends, I am screwed, gotta redo all that over startin at the last time I saved the way it was made to do. But some games have long beginnings >

So you can use the emulator but you can't save state? If that's the case, my guess is that you're not able to write files onto the hard drive through the emulator, and that probably has to do with permissions. Not much you can do about that.

2 emulators I used at school (they had save state) were blocked. The one I can use has no save state. What I want is a different snes emulator... but it must have a save state

oh yeah, this is blocked at school so... grr!

All I can suggest is for you to go to Zophar's and check out the SNES emulators there - but even if one of the less-known ones works for you, it might not run the game(s) in question. :\

when you say "yes the actual thing", what exactly are you referring to? What does the error message say when it denies you access?

Yeah, it definitely sounds like a permission problem. The college I attended had a similar setup, but I managed to work around it to install stuff. (It was actually pretty easy, I just didn't install anything to the Program Files directory)

If you have a place where you can put documents, I'd try putting ZSNES and your ROMs there. Or maybe editing the ZSNES configuration file to write saves to your directory.

When starting the program it says that the school blocked them... (I guess that they saw people using that when they should be working) The bad emulators are the one that are not blocked. Mario RPG has a long begining and the bell rings right before I can get to save point. I am pissed that if a site had proxy in the name its blocked. If only I could get a proxy. I have to put it on disk at home and bring it in but thats a pain... I either need to get a proxy to somehow work so I could search for emulators easier... or I need to know exactly how to get an emulator with save state with so many sites blocked.

well my point in asking for a specific message was because depending on how it's blocked there might be ways around it.

How are you able to download the ROMs/emus if you can't write files? And if you can, why can't you have it save the states to where you can write them?

Check the path of where you're loading/saving save states in ZSNES. It should be in the "zsnesw.cfg" file. You can open it in note pad and just modify what the directions tell you to:

; Set this to 1 if you do not want ZSNES to save the configuration files.

DontSave = 0

; Savefile directory. Leave it blank if you want the save files to be in the
; same directory as the games. It should be in a format like : C:\dir\dir

SaveDirectory = D:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\NINTENDO\SUPER NES

; Game directory. This is the directory where the GUI starts at.
; ZSNES automatically writes the current directory here upon exit.

GameDirectory = D:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\NINTENDO\EDITING\EDITING TOOLS\YY-CHR

In the worst case, you need to change the SaveDirectory to the floppy drive "A:\" and save there. Sure, it will lag when you try to save, but it should work.

(I am home sick today)
ZSNES doesn't work at all. Restrictions block it. Same with the other one I mentioned. The emulator I do have working at school does not have a save state option. It is a pain in the ( Y ) trying to get to a save point before the period ends. I need an emulator with a save state that won't be blocked. The emulator I have can save but only at where the game would be able to save as in on SNES.

Well, we need to know how the blocking is set up and all the emulators which are blocked before we can help you.

I only tried 3 emulators at school so far and 2 are blocked... and its a pain in the ass doing what I do to get around the site blocks without a proxy. The school blocks any site with proxy in its name

oh god, i'm glad it didn't have to come to that for me when i was in highschool. i'm guessing it was just their terribly flaws setup, but i was able to run the previously-thought denied .exe files. They allowed users to create shortcuts (which was very dumb), so i decided to point one at the C:\ (which normally doesn't show up in My Computer), and into the windows temp folder, which allows the running of .exe files. That way i was able to emulate to my hearts content

I am starting to think I should just get a damn proxy from home and put it on disk and bring it to school. Don't you think that would help....

And how exactly do you put a proxy on a disk? That's not really the problem anyway, it's trying to run the emulator. Tried naming it winword.exe? Worst case scenario, find the original program of whatever you're allowed to run, rename it, plop the emu in its place, and don't forget to put it back when you're done.

Maybe I'm just weird, but I don't think you really should be THAT desperate to play games at school. I mean, you can't handle being without them for what, 6 hours? You always have them at home, dude.
