There was an interesting quote by Derek Lowe in comparing the Giants/Dodgers rivalry to Yankees/Red Sox. It went along the lines of, "Here, there is just a dislike (referring to SF vs LA). There, it's all out war."

Kerry Wood better get it in gear quickly.

And Mark Prior better start getting to the point where he can pitch 8+ innings quickly, as well. We REALLY need good starting pitching, because if we don't have that, we basically have nothing.

Our bullpen should just be shot

But nonetheless, I'll be a believer... THIS IS THE CUBS' YEAR!

The Cubs year?! There's sarcasm if I've ever heard it. Sammy is gone, Moises is gone, now Nomar is out for half the season. Wood is struggling, Hawkins can't close the deal. They have two bright spots, Prior being old school Prior, and Zambrano being bad ass. The Prof will get his 15 wins, so that's at least 45 wins.

I don't see a bright season for the Cubs this year...

FEAR THE TWINS! Or the White Sox, or the Dodgers, hot damn...

As for the Yankees.........................................

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHA!

Randy will go back to being Randy. But I haven't seen anyone even mention the fact that he switched from the easier-to-pitch-league (National) to the lucky-to-get-to-the-8th-inning-league (American). He'll be back to his ace form, it'll just take a bit. The legit question is how far beyond will they be when he finally gets back to form? Brown sucks, Wright sucks, Pavano hasn't shined, Loiaza isn't that good either. They traded Lieber, and he's 4-0. Rivera can't close the deal on the defending champs, and they are the biggest competition.

Again, FEAR THE TWINS! MUAHAHAHAAHAHA!

Well, I posted BEFORE Nomar's injury. Nomar was struggling like hell anyway.

As a FAN, I'll continue to be a believer

But otherwise... I'll be glad to have 82 wins... that would be great at this point.

This was interesting... Bud Selig sent a letter to the MLBPA. The letter was a new proposed steroid drug policy.

1st offense: 50 game suspension
2nd offense: 100 game suspension
3rd offense: lifetime ban

Current policy:
1st offense: 10 day suspension
2nd offense: 30 day suspension
3rd offense: 60 day suspension
4th offense: 1 year
5th offense: MLB Commisioner's mercy

The new proposal also includes updated testing for new 'roids, banning amphetamines, more frequent random tests, and to appoint a 3rd party to administer the tests. Le story. Enjoy the read, and what do you guys think? I think this is exactly what the game needs. If the players want to use the 'roids that badly, then this is the price they can pay for it.

Keep in mind, if congress is not happy with the policy (and currently they are not), they will go ahead and make a national policy for all sports to go by.

The MLBPA will make a response later in the week...

Well, think of it like this:

NFL's policy is the first offense nets you four games. AKA, a quarter of the season. Selig's proposal knocks you out for 31% of the season.

Translation: STOP CHEATING.

And bonus points for wanting to ban amphetamines. Those are more prevalent in baseball anyways. MLBPA, pick your battles. This isn't necessarily the right time to completely dig in your heels. Hopefully, the clean players'll keep their voices raised.

I just wonder why the main person of the MLBPA (for got his name) was (or still is) doing everything in his power not to stop testing and that fun stuff when the public really wants them to. An interesting point that came out of the NFL conference with Congress was a united front (i.e. cooperation) between the league and its players on the use of steroids and such. One of the congress committee members complimented Tagliabue by saying, "Thank you for knowing what the hell is going on"

We'll see how this goes. If MLBPA has any brains, they'll accept this.

Ok, let's see here, CAN ANYONE STAY HEALTHY?

Jeff Bagwell: on his way to the DL (shoulder)
Nomar Garciapara: groin tear, out for a long while
Todd Walker: currently on DL (knee)
Kerry Wood: sore shoulder, pretty much touch n go
Eric Gagne: working his way off the DL
Sammy Sosa: placed on DL (absces in foot, and staph infection)
Curt Schilling: currently on DL (ankle)
David Wells: currently on DL
Jim Thome: recently placed on DL
Jason Schmidt: recently placed on DL
Troy Percival: recently placed on DL

There are many many more, way too many to list. Are we sure it's baseball season?

Wanna shut Reds reliever Ben Weber up? Let spring training teammate Joe Valentine show you how.

"I was joking around, because I don't really know anything about same-sex parents," Weber said. "But I said, 'All I know is this: A kid with same-sex parents is going to be pretty (messed) up.' "

Silence.

The next voice - and there's no mistaking the sharp Long Island accent - was Valentine's.

"Well," he said, "I've been raised by two moms."

More silence.

Eyes widened and shoulders shrugged.

"I was like, 'Oh, dude, let me remove the foot from my mouth and apologize,' " Weber said. "But he wasn't offended.

The article goes on to mention how contrary to some opinions, Valentine isn't gay (well, he's married) and that growing up, it wasn't an issue.

"I never, ever looked at somebody else and wished I had a dad," Joe said, "because I was more than happy having two moms."

He just got optioned down to AAA last week, but he should be fine.

Did anyone see this coming?

Dem damn Yankees....

...were swept...

...by the..Royals?

Yep, after losing 2 of 3 of the only May series to the Red Sox (which included a 17-1 beatdown loss), the Yankees then proceeded to go to the AL central and get swept by the Royals. Go Buddy Bell! The Yankees' next series is against a good team, the Twins. You can almost feel sorry for the Yankees too. Too bad Santana and Unit won't be featured in any of the three games. Lohse, Mays, and Silva against Mussina, Chien-Ming Wang (call-up?), and Kevin Brown respectively. After the Twins series, the Yankees head for a series against the Brewers.

Hmmm, the real question is, are the Yankees really back? Or were the multiple beatdown's on the Devil Rays and AL West (Mariners and A's) just because those teams are that bad?

A little of column A and a lot of column B. Sounds delusional, but I think getting Cano in there and Bernie on the bench'll help them, and Wang has been useful. But they got to pick on three teams that just plain ol' suck. (Editor's note: The Royals aren't THAT good either...)

Indeed, it's about time when teams like the Twins, White Sox, Red Sox, Orioles, etc are playing "beatdown" on dem damn Yanks. Anyone want to place a wager that the Yanks are out of this years playoff hunt?

yanks are pretty far out of the playoff race right now...unless the AL East begins to implode for the Yankee benefit, i think they'll miss the playoffs for the first time in years
