Anybody else get this? Rando brought it home yesterday and I played for a few hours. The core gameplay hasn't changed much, but to me, that's A Good Thing (tm).

Likes

- The soundtrack is much more like that of DW3 (rock that gets you pumped up to kick ass). The same awesome "Winning" music even makes a return. DW4 had too many soothing tracks that just didn't get me going.
- Each character has their own musou mode again. In DW4, each kingdom had the same story, so there wasn't much of a point in beating the game with all the characters.
- It's easier to spot weapon and item crates because they appear in pairs.
- You get life and musou gauge upgrades by killing subgenerals. I like that better than hunting for crates.
- No more dueling! Yaaay! I didn't like that very much in 4 because you died if you lost and if you drew, it hurt your morale anyway.
- The weapon system is more like 3's. You can carry four weapons with different levels, stats, weights, and special abilities, so you have to choose what you want to keep around.
- There are lots of new maps. That beginning of game Yellow Turban rebellion isn't the same old, same old any more.
- There are supply and defense bases guarded by captains. Killing said captains gets you small attack and defense bonuses and sometimes helps you out.

Dislikes

- The selection of generals available from the start is teeny. At least one of my favorites (Xiahou Dun) is available now, but Zhang He has to be unlocked and getting Zhu Rong is going to take FOREVER. *wahhhh*
- Is it just me, or did they fux0r the difficulty in a bad way? I don't remember having much trouble with the first few musou mode battles for characters on Normal in DW3 and DW4. In this one, they keep shoving Lu Bu at you, and he's way worse than he was in 3 or 4 (with 1 1/2 the normal life meter, nonetheless) and sometimes there's no way to get around him because he's guarding the last boss. You can also get screwed if you don't have enough allied generals alive at the end of the battle because you need them to help you clusterfuck Lu Bu and kill him. In DW3, it was possible to win hard battles by the skin of your teeth by going after the last general yourself even if most of your allies were dead and your morale was shit. I remember seeing Rando do that many times. I know the "level up on Free mode" tactic very well, but that doesn't seem to do much for me so far. I'm going to have to play through on Easy with strong characters to get items and level up before I have much of a chance at Normal. That won't be bad (and I understand that some games are designed in this way so that you're "supposed" to play through on successive difficulties to prepare yourself for the tougher ones), but it threw me for a loop.
- What the fricking crap did they do to Zhang He's outfit? It's all garish and he's wearing chains around his legs. (Yes, that's extremely trivial, but I don't care. Deal with it. )
