Ive always thought as my town as a quiet little neighborhood. Nothing really out of the ordinary happens around here, so I always thought life was fine. Today when I go to my friends house, I pass by an ambulance and fire truck going the other way. I assumed it wasnt anything major, because the sirens were off. Boy was I wrong. I come home and my mom asks me if I knew anyone on a particular street. I said no and asked why. She said a girl my age had committed suicide. I'm still quite shocked. I hear about stuff happening elsewere and still live my normal life, but it never occured to me it could happen so close to home. I dunno, it just gives me this clammy feeling I cant shake, and makes me wonder if this could happen here, then theres nothing to stop another one, and the next time, it may be someone I know. Yeah... anyways, word is still spreading around the town... I dont think I would have found out until this friday or something. Anyone know how I can shake this feeling of dread that kinda just settled in? Worried and confused just... isnt who I am. |

how about this perspective--this stuff happens everyday? i dunno, for it to happen in your town is just chance in my opinion. the dynamics of the town and the events leading up to what happen are stuff that happens everywhere. no town is ever immune from someone feeling sad, left out, etc. Why I think you are probably effected more than you thought you would have been is because you never have been confronted of such things. I live in a fairly big city so I was exposed to harsh reality at an early age. However, I realized after some time that what happened to them isn't my fault and there probably wouldn't have been anything I could do as long as I've never met them. So for this stuff happening more? I doubt it. If your town is small as you say it is, then this is just an isolated case. As for someone you know? Well, there are always signs of it--it's usually brought out by a big case of pessimism and despair. What you can do is listen and be there for your friend. More likely than not, that is all they need. If they do in the end do it however...don't take it too hard or think that there was more you could have done because you have already tried your best. |
