Well,

I thought it would be better if I at least explained why SST isn't out yet (although I announced a release date previously).

The problem is, I am suffering from a terrible memory leak (because, SST allocates lots of memory to hold the N-SPC data) which seems to root deep in the Windows framework itself, causing an access violation error in a piece of code I have no influence at (somewhere in the message handler code of windows) frequently.
The actions I know to always cause a crash are:
- Loading a file via menu or toolbar. Ridiculously, they should call the same piece of code the kbd accel does.
- Changing the loaded file when you already have loaded one.
- Using the DSP simulation more than two times in a row.
- Loading unknown file formats.

I, currently, have no clue how to solve the problem.
[edit] As for this part, it is fixed now. Some more fixes, like for the simulated DSP playback code, are still to come, though.

Despite that, there is actual progress to SST. I managed to find the pattern tables of Star Fox 2 (which, apparently, has an "almost" single-song system which might be quite interesting to have in SMW, too). The track editor works much better now, and there are no scrambled ROMs anymore - well, almost none.

Here's a screenshot of SST having a SF2 SPC dump loaded:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v98/blackhole89/sfx2.png

More information and, possibly, screenshots might follow when there is/are any.

Have a nice day,
~blackhole89.

If your code's in C/C++, I'd be happy to take a look at it, if you like. I'm a computer sciences student with some experience in the Win32 API, so if there's anything going wrong, I bet I could help you track it down

Naturally, I understand if you're reluctant to release the source to a third party -- in that case, you could just send me your message handler/window setup code and I could peruse that (I'm guessing all the proprietary code is elsewhere).

In any case, best wishes with this project; the progress looks great and I eagerly anticipate a release. Kudos to you for developing what looks like a very user-friendly and streamlined interface

Uh... I just learned something. It is not good to modify message handler routines in the MFC, like giving OnLoad() an additional parameter.
Anyway, the problem seems fixed now, but, I sure will need your help at some point... I'm not exactly experienced at the windows API

Heh, I remember back in the older thread that you talked about this that Glyph Phoenix didn't care whether there were bugs or not; he just wanted to use it. I'm sure he'd love to use it with this problem...

Anyhow. If this is the kind of problems you are having with it, then take all the time you need. I don't think anybody here wants to use this badly enough to put the computer at risk of not functioning properly. Good luck with the problems; hopefully they will be simply errors that are easily reversable (not that I am any computer expert or have any idea of how to do anything with the Windows API).

That's what you'd keep saying up untill the point that your computer exploded in a firey ball of death and shrapnel.

Everyone's eagerly awaiting your program, blackhole, so good luck.
And the screenshot still looks shiney.

You would've gotten bonus points if "exploded in a firey ball of death and shrapnel" was a link to a picture of that happening, but alas, it was not to be.

Hm. Not bad. Perhaps I won't have to muck around in hex to do my dirtywork as much. Yoro will be thrilled (she's absolutly obsessed with the N-SPC format and writing for it)

Will this do? If so, do I get bonus points? I guess not...

Anyway, the buggy version couldn't be too bad otherwise Blackhole's computer wouldn't survive the release. As long as there's some way to load the file, I would like to download this music editor as soon as possible.

No we don't! I want a perfect editor! This is big business and it's nothing like the Mario sprite configurator! It like, bypasses the whole outlining of the game mostly! One or two mess-ups and it's bye bye edit! Or worse, bye bye computer!!!!!

Wait, we also have to realize that Glyph has a computer with Windows Millenium Edition on it. That's probably why he wants the editor no matter what state it's in; his computer already so bad that he wouldn't be able to tell the difference. As a former user of Windows ME, I can see it from Glyph's point of view. Of course, no one else wants that so, as I stated before, take your time blackhole.

Not true, I have two computers. One has Windows 98 and the other Windows ME. As you can see, this reinforces your point completely.

Well, good to hear you are at least trying to fix this serious problem.

I would help you. Unfortunatly for me, I know nothing about any other programming languages other than BASIC, HTML, and ASM, which really isn't much help to you...

Well, we can wait for this problem to be fixed. I am awaiting this editor... I want some of my own music made into SMW...

Sarcasm or not, Trasher, my computers are pretty much like that. It took tons of different cleaning tools just to get one of them to shut down without crashing... And they've both been almost wiped out by messed up programs before. And many programs don't work right on either. And my floppy disk drive only works half of the time...
