Ok, that is just horrible. 2 goals in the last 2 minutes? I would be kicking myself so hard were I a Celtic-fan. My condolences, Colleen.

I'm reminded of Man U beating Bayern Munich in the CL back in '99, not surprisingly enough.

Oy... Hopefully we can win the Cup and then prepare for the Strachan era (which was confirmed today).

.....

OH. MY. GOD.

In all seriousness, that is not only the best game I've seen all season, but one of the best I've EVER seen - and possibly the greatest CL final ever. HOLY CRAP.

Congratulations to Liverpool - they never, NEVER gave up. They were as good as dead after the first half and in a seven-minute span, fought back. That entire game was... GEEZ. I can't believe it. Gerrard was tremendous but I'd have to give my MOM award to Dudek.

After tonight, there should be five English teams in the CL next season - I personally thought Liverpool weren't going to pull it off anyways tonight, but that performance just showed a lot of heart.

Yeah, I just caught the tail end of it. Down 3-0 at the half, and then come back to win it in a shootout? Kickass. It was an awesome match. Man, I'd hate to be on AC Milan right now - they must be killing themselves. It's kinda like what happened to a local school's team - they were up 1-0 with about forty-five seconds left and the opposition scored the equalizer. Of course, since they're my school's rivals, I don't feel too bad.

Anyway, that's off topic. I hope I can see some World Cup qualifying soon, because I don't get to see any Premier League games where I live, so MLS is basically the only football I can watch on a regular basis.

I think there might be some changes at Milan this summer. They had a great season and won absolutely nothing - someone's going to pay for that error.

USA should be playing 2 WCQ games in June. I'm sure one/both will be on an ESPN channel.

Michael Owen went to Real Madrid because he wanted to win European trophies. Smart move.

John Arne Riise said in an interview after the match "it's a great day for all Norwegians, now that we finally have a Norwegian who has achieved this much success". I think the boy needs to calm down and realize that he ain't exactly "all that".

Hey, he won a cup with Liverpool, and who else can say that?

But there are Norwegians who have achieved a lot more than he has, that's the point. He worded it as if he was the greatest Norwegian ever. And the boy does seem quite arrogant from all those interviews with him I've seen.

Maybe I'm reading between the lines incorrectly, but it sounds as if you don't approve of Strachan's appointment. He's the best replacement they could have got (out of the choices they had). He has a similar management history to O'Neill (both taking unfancied sides to great things, O'Neill with Leicester to the premiership and keeping them up, and Strachan to the FA Cup Final with Southampton), so he's a great appointment. (Not that I support Celtic or anything, hell I don't really support anyone, especially in the scottish league )

As for the Liverpool win, it strikes me as weird that the team that barely qualified for the Champions League, won it.

No reading between the lines there. :\ I'm just a little bummed out that the O'Neill era is over with and that summer's coming which means that Celtic will likely do crap-all in the transfer market with our "limited funds" which is of course all BS. Translation: Another good season in the league but I'm not holding out for European miracles although our club ranking is high enough to be seeded in both qualifying rounds and possibly be in the second pot of the CL group draw.

SomerZ: Solskjaer. Kills Riise's argument DEAD.

Doesn't seem like you missed much after the first half. :\ Apparently wasn't a bad game but the problem is that you have to compare the game to Liverpool/Milan... and you just cannot even remotely do that.

The final score was 2-1, with England winning. The US had a lot of scoring chances in the last fifteen minutes, but they couldn't really get a lot of power when they had shots on goal. For a while in the second half, I thought they were being a little too timid, but England was actually the one that was very defensive throughout the entire game. If the US hadn't given up those two goals in the first half, it would probably have been a better game.

Does anybody here think the US has got a shot at repeating their showing in '02 at next year's World Cup? Or will it be more traditional powerhouses that advance farther?

You're always going to have an upset team in the final four, it seems.

We'll see about the States. I have a feeling it's going to be a VERY strong World Cup next year regardless.

The Women's Euros have started. Germany just went up 1-0 against us. I'm not the biggest fan of female football, but I don't mind watching Norway winning, which we do quite often, being in the world elite and all.

Looks like our men will have to go through 2nd place quals if they want to go to the World Cup. 0-0 against Italy the other day (we were the better team, though), and Italy seems to have won the group, ahead of either us, Slovenia, or Belarus (Scotland and Moldova won't make 2nd).

Haven't heard that rumor... All I know is that a few guys are leaving so we really need to open up the pocketbook for once. There's no reason why we can't scrounge up enough money for a signing or two as opposed to just free transfers.

Scotland... well... they COULD make 2nd... If we beat Belarus on Wednesday, we at *least* have a bit of a chance. We'd definitely need results and probably one win against you guys and Italy, which is a tall task but not totally impossible.

Group 4 (Ireland, Switzerland, Israel, France) is an absolute mess. Ireland should top the group on Wednesday when if they beat the Faroes, but that group is incredibly tight.

Oh, and one funny stat from last weekend...
