If the clock did "stop" it would fuck with the board royally until it was fixed. =D

You have NO idea how screwy the board would be if that happened. XD

Maybe a script could be done for the ACS that counts all posts in a 24-hour period that isn't based on server time... *head explodes*

That would be impossible. The ONLY way for the board to keep track of time is through the server clock.

Think about this: all the posts made during that time would have the exact same timestamp.

Of course, I don't know how servers work or anything, so it's quite possible that everything would just shut down if the clock stopped. But if not, it would cause lots of problems. =p I guess the posts in a thread might still be ordered by ID, but maybe not...

How about a manual one? Click "start" at midnight my time and "restart" at midnight the following night.

Either that or we just all stop posting and pretend like the board's frozen - just like the archive.

Well, you'd have to watch every single post because you wouldn't be able to tell by looking at the posts themselves. Also the users on online.php would never expire and would be organized in a useless way, such as user ID. And of course "Mark Forum Read" wouldn't work. Actually I have no idea how you'd keep track of the posts that happen within that time.

EDIT: I guess you could try to record EVERYONE's post count at each midnight, but that would be quite a task.

Where were you when God was handing out brains? Honestly?

Think. If it took roughly a minute and a half to 'load' the page for you, then it really did take that long.

If it finished 3 seconds after pushing the button, it was the clock.

Arrghghh..

Also, if the clock froze, Zem would be right -- all hell would break loose. Nothing would work right, all posts would contain the exact same time, and if it kept going for days every unique user that appeared during the freeze would be online until the freeze ended.

Of course, if the clock jumped forward for a while, then back, things would go wrong there too (users who were there during the warp would remain online until the time of the warp was reached, etc)

I should know, I set my local server time to about 2030 and screwed around, now I get a DLL error every time it restarts and the board (used to) show a few people as being constantly online

The server have been slow lately, but the clock have nothing to do with the time it takes to render a page.

I have only seen a battery die once, and that was on my grandfathers computer. And of course, we did replace it.

Was that a 286, Kitten Yiffer?

No, it was a Pentium. My 486's battery was still going strong last I checked, and probably is. Sometimes even new computers battery dies, althought that's not too common.

The batteries can be replaced pretty easily, I think.

My 486... Oh man. When I got rid of it the clock was losing around 30 seconds a day. That's what 5 years of heavy gaming will do I guess.

Big drop? Well, maybe for Trapster and Colleen...

I think I can catch up this month, considering I really don't have that much work to do.

You would just be so surprised how many games that can be run on a 486.

Back then, it was a shareware heaven. Now shareware's aren't that common nowdays, now it's open source program that is "big". And a few big games started as shareware... Doom and Descent.

Oh, and it seems like a lot more new faces are appearing on the ACS. Does that strike anyone else as a bit odd?
