The ONO event.

Basically, it was something that happened during the "lost time", around New Year's 2004, and it eventually became the biggest spree in Acmlmboard history.

I think it started with a thread by Xkeeper, who used a small icon that said "ono" as the thread icon of a thread in...um...a forum that shall remain nameless. Soon after, Yoshi Dude posted a thread with a screenshot of her desktop with a few windows open (I'm thinking an AIM window was one of them...), and a lot of "ONO" icons everywhere.

Eventually, there were zillions of threads in That Other Forum about it...we were posting all kinds of "ONO" images in them, getting bigger and bigger. We called ourselves Clan ONO (or was it ONO Clan?). There were two anti-clans: Anti-ONO and Stop ONO, who posted several images of their own in aforementioned threads. I believe there was also an OYES.

Sadly, all this has been lost...I got something like 500-600 posts out of the resultant spree, and some others got even more...

Interestingly, before the event, I never said "ONO" anywhere...now I say it all the time in AIM and IRC.

wow...it's been that long since that ONO event XD makes me feel old and no longer someone new anymore

if only we didn't IP block the internet archiver we would probably still have some recollection of it--otherwise, all we can do is just keep the memory of it around...

also, makes you wonder if anything like this will ever come again...

There will be other huge sprees...the thing is, it's impossible to predict when they will happen. I still remember when I was one of about six people actively posting in that forum, at the very beginning of what would become the spree...

One day maybe we'll see a link titled "http://wiki.acmlm.org/ONO".

Trying to predict when a spree will happen is a complete waste of time. You can't predict the habits of 30-40 users.

i never said anything about predicting...just wondering how long it'll be when it happens again... after all, the most logical time for 30-40 people to all to be together at once is on a holiday or a major board event such as the anniversary that's coming up in 8 days...

I doubt the anniversary will produce a huge spree, although the last time we HAD a deluge of posts was when the board first came back up - we were all trying to make up for lost time I suppose.

Heh, maybe a similar effect would happen if we had the board down for a week.

...hell the IRC channel was never that active when the board was down.

Does anyone know why the background for the ACS post NEVER loads on the most recent posting of the rankings, but ALWAYS loads on all previous postings? I'm guessing it's just me and my screwy computer...

The bug has been on there for ages. I don't even remember what causes it now. But it was present in Acmlm's version (which seems to be the one we're using) and it was present in mine.
