that is one of the things I didn't like about norton's antivirus...the updates weren't free--or well, the versions that I had anyways

i went a while without having virus protection...that was stupid until I got a virus

Norton's updates *should* be free for a whole year after registration, last I checked. That would correspond to the "new version of scanner each year" theory.

that sucks then...i preferred McAfee because that is not the case--virus defs are free for as long as the version is supported...

i wonder if there is good freeware scanner?

I felt asleep early yesterday, oi.

Damn, I hate when that happens... I was just going to take a short nap...

I wish they could install Norton Internet Security 2005 at the dorm instead of the sucky version of Symantec we have in school.

I know what

I use Norton antivirus, it's really not that bad. Althought I tend to have the "Auto-protect" turned off. It makes the loading of certain games much slower, especially Maxis games for some reason. :/

Kerio... never heard that before.

And apparently the anti-virus companies does work together, at least when it comes to new viruses. Old viruses had diffrent names depending on which anti-virus vendor most of the time.

Norton programs are good, but they feel... bloated nowdays. :/

Seems like i'm undefeatable this month.

That would more or less be industry standards, Kitten Yiffer. Basically they agree on names/etc. The actual scanning procedures, however, vary wildly - some files throw up warnings on some scanners when in fact they're clean and only have a small string that matches up with a virus.
