Well for the Java applet here (going to the IRC channels through the board) I sometimes just ... simply can't connect.

Then the next day, I probably can.

There's not really much I can explain, it's just basically "Sometimes I can connect, and sometimes I can't."

Anything that might possibly help out? Or should I just get mIRC or something?

The usual error:
"Unable to connect: java.netNoRouteToHostException : Operation timed out"

Probably something to do with my ISP or something. (SBC...)

An actual client is the way to go. Nobody likes java. NOBODY.

Anyway, it's possible that the java client tries to connect to a specific server, and last I saw at least one of the servers is having problems a lot of the time. I don't know though.

Yeah I issued that in another forum.

Another problem could be that your using Microsoft's Java VM, or that the IRC port is blocked. (It is at our school I just discovered. -.-; )

*IRC*. I think any port in the range 6667-6670 works. Try another one.

*kills himself for that that typo*

Honestly, I make fun of people saying mIRC isntead of IRC and... x_X

I try that later, next time I use a computer.

Right now I am trying to get on the channel with mIRC and it won't let me. I tried all the ports Jesper mentioned and went to the right server, but it won't let me connect. This is all the time for me, not sometimes it will, sometimes it won't.

Funny thing is that other servers work fine, but not irc.acmlm.org. It won't let me connect at all...

EDIT: I should have followed Kitten Yiffer's link... now I feel like an idiot...

Xeo: I don't know if java has anything to do with your problem though... I don't use the board IRC chat... although I should try it now to see if I can...
EDIT: Ummm... nope. The IRC page froze...

I haven't been able to connect for some time now. The connection just times out. I'm using mIRC, with port 6667. I have no trouble connecting to other networks, with the same port, just this one.
