Pic2SNES should run in XP fine without having to resort to a DOS emulator. I've never had any problems with it, at least.

Sure, but you need to know how to use DOS. It's simple enough, really:

1) Put the program in a short path, like C:\pic2snes.exe.
2) Go to Start -> Run, type 'cmd' (or 'command' on older versions), hit Enter. (Tip: Windows key + R brings this up too.)
3) Type 'cd\' in the DOS box to get to C:\. If you need to change directories, use 'cd [directory name]'. You can use quotes for names with spaces, like 'cd "c:\documents and settings"'.
4) Type 'pic2snes' (or whatever you named the program) and follow the instructions.

geez.
at least TRY to consider following the advices the program gives you.

you need to make sure your pcx file has the proper colour depth (4bit afair, nevikstis pcx2snes requires 8bit)
and the pcx file has the right version number.
check the options irfanview gives you on that.
if there arent any, try paint shop pro.
i use that myself and it worked excellent with any snes graphics converter ive used so far.
and dont click on the executable file, use the command prompt instead.
that way, the window wont close down after the program exits and you will be able to read the error message.

windows start button->run-> type cmd

Since I find Pic2SNES and M16-7k too messy, I ususally use Infranview to convert a picture to a 128x128 8 bit BMP so that it can be imported to YY-Chr. Arranging the tiles in the correct order in LM is a pain in the a**, though.

Also...

If you get an error message, tell us what it says! If you say "OMG!!!1 I get a error! fix da prublem!", there's no way for us to know what's wrong! Details are important.

Did you read my tutorial I gave you?
You 1st need to take a snapshot of the BG you want to have, then open it with Irfan View and reduce the numbers to 16 and save it as a .PCX file, then open it in PSP 3.11 and save it as a Version 2 .PCX file.
After done with that, open PIC2SNES, but the image must be in the same directory as PIC2SNES.
Type in the name of your pic there and set it up, now you're done and can insert the files into Lunar Magic, is that so hard?

where exactly in infra view do you change the numbers?

i went to Image/Resize/Resample, thinking this is where to change the numbers

is this where you do it? cause i tried in here, and i think i'm doing it wrong

i also opened psp 3.11 and when I goto save as, there is no version 2 pcx. i can save it again as a regular .pcx file

i then opened the file in pcx2sopt, and it said it's not a 16 color pcx file *sigh*

please tell me step by step on how to use the ifra view program. thank you!

Yo thanx, I didn't know that u have to put the pcx into the same folder as da pic2SNeS, maybe that's why it didn't work.

2nd: I don't know where to get PSP3.11, Plese Plese Give Me a link, ICE MAN

I don't know what iz wrong with it but after I install the PSP 3.11 I can't find the icon of it.

Also, I forgot to tell you I've also got another program called GIF2SNES, I made a GIF file just how it said and after the same message (just as in PIC2SNES) appeared, saying :

ERROR: THIS IS NOT A GIF/PCX FILE

And then the Program is closing down.

By the way when you did that tutorial did you have WINDOWS XP??

ok, i used pcx2sopt, and it created a new .pcx file

now, do i take that pcx file, and view directly with lunar magic, or do i need to do more converting?

also that pcx file the pcx2sopt created is 2kb, my .set file is 14kb, and my .map size is 1kb is this all correct? and if so, where do i go from here? thanks for all the help!

Dude, you need to know the code for the M16-7k thing and then you can insert the files, which PIC2SNES made.

ahh, ok

well, i did that, and everything came up garbage. when i first take that snapshot, am i supposed to edit it in yy-chr before using ifrared? or, do all these programs shrink the snapshot to fit correctly in the 8x8 tile editor. Thanks again for the help! So far everything has been working for me, up to this last point.

No no no, I will explain it better:
1st you make a screenshot of the BG from a game you want to have, after that open up the file in IrfanView and reduce the numbers of colors to 16 then save as a PCX file, now open this file in PSP 3.11 and save it as a Version 2 .PCX file.
After that copy the image in the folder where PIC2SNES is located, open PIC2SNES and type in the name of the image file i.e. crystal.pcx is your file name, then typ in crystal in all fields except for the palette, there you can type any number between 1-8 I think, but remember, the palettes are stored different in LM, i.e. you type in 1 then it will be 0 in LM, here's a list of it.
1=0
2=1
3=2
4=3
5=4
6=5
7=6
8=7

After PIC2SNES created the files, open Lunar Magic and then the 16x16 Editor and type in the code for the M16-7k thing, but before inserting the files, make sure you got 1 or 2 blank ExGFX files inserted to that level.
When you got the window for the M16-7k thingy opened, click on "OK" and you will be offered to load the files, which PIC2SNES created, after loading them press F9 in both tile editors, in the 16x16 and 8x8 one and don't forget to save the level and reinsert the ExGFX afterwards and save the level again, done.

ok, another thing

how do you create a blank ExGFX file? cause what I'm doing, is I'm opening YY-CHR, selecting "New" and I save it as "ExGFX##" Is that ok?

Extract the GFX from the ROM with LM, you'll see a folder called "Graphics", copy GFX00.bin to the folder "ExGraphics", but remember, this folder needs to be created and then insert GFX00.bin there and rename it to ExGFX##,bin where ## is a number between 80 - FFF.
Now open the ExGFX##.bin file in TLP or YY-CHR and remove all tiles there, then save it and insert it into LM, after inserting the ExGFX, reinsert the GFX or all will be screwed up.
