Zex *thinks* What the...
Zex: "Sorry master. Emotionnal overload. Please stand-by while I suppress it..."
Zex turned away from Kirbynite, breathing heavily...
Zex *thinks* What was I thinking? OF COURSE he only got his hat which means that... err... *GASP!* What kind of tought is that?!? Where did my profesionnalism gone to?!?... err... I guess I figured out the malfunction. Since Dreickonis is a big *CENSORED* and raised me to have no feelings while I still had, becease Admiral Zerodius program us to have feelings, I ended up unleashing my feelings on him becease he's sorta nice to me! No use making assumptions on this instinctive pulse I just had... yeah... no... use making assumptions... heh...
It seems that Zex was EXTREMELY nervous for a reason... she turned toward Kirbynite.
Zex: "S... s... sorry... master... I... I... I believe I have a... malfunction... of some sort... concerning... my... my... my emotions... This will be fixed soon... yeah... real soon..."
Ex turned away again and continued to breath heavily. It's not easy controlling 18-years worth of feelings suddenly being unleashed after years of supressing them! |

Zex stared at Kirbynite...
Zex: "Congratulations master. You have restored this Fountain. Well... I could be wrong... but that Knight Mare sounds a lot like the nickname 02 had when she first attacked Popstar in my Possibility... exept she was called Dark Mare back then. Maybe that 02 is a boy in this world and that the Darkest one is this Possibility's NeoBowser or Chaos?... but whoever it is. I'm just making theories right now and theories will not bring us further to our goals."
Zex approached Kirbynite and helped him get out of the Fountain.
Zex: "You are fine master... but you're wet. Adventuring in a wet equipment isn't advised. Come with me."

Kirbynite: ... Whoa! Wait! What?!
The little pink creature zoned out for most of the story. He snapped out of it when he heard his name mentioned. Kirbynite stared at his unusual looking weapon.
Kirbynite: So... Um... I have to seal it up with this? And it should prevent any bad stuff and probably those weird dark things from appearing, right? Now.. how.. do I seal it..
He approached the fountain with caution. It looked quite similar to the one he saw back in his home world...
All of a sudden, the Star Rod began to shake violently. Kirbynite used both of his hands to control the rod, but it started to drag him around. Even after falling into the fountain, he continued to hold on tightly. A beam of light shot out and pierced the center stone. The stone began to hum and its color started to change. The hue of the reflected water shifted to a more warmer tone.
A spout of water spewed out of the star shaped stone. Kirbynite stared at the stone as he stumbled out of the fountain.
Kirbynite: If that's how its gonna be everytime we run into one of these things, I'm gonna have to remember to remove any water damagable goods... Can... we continue searching for our friends now..? |

One dropping off of nonessential secondary characters later...
Fem had taken our characters to a cave somewhere outside the city of Megalopolis. She then proceeded to lead them around its twisted tunnels until they found what she was looking for.
Fem: Here it is...
In the middle of the area, a giant fountain was overflowing with water. The water was lit up with brilliant colors, provided by the several glowing crystals, jutting out in random places within the fountain. In the center of it all laid a giant star shaped stone.
Fem: This is where I found the Star Rod that I installed in Gutsman.
Duo: It... can't be...
Fem: You know what it is?
Duo: It is... a Fountain of Dreams. I didn't think they actually existed.. On my world there is a legend about them. Long ago, when the worlds were one, there was a great fountain known as The Fountain of Dreams. In the middle of the fountain rested the Rod of the Stars, which regulated the flow of "dreams" ... Then, one day, an evil knight in the employ of the Darkest of All Beings invaded the land, riding on a dark mare. Together, they were known as the "Knight Mare." Hungry for the power of "dreams", the Knight Mare stole the Rod of the Stars. Without their dreams the people soon become discontented and began to fight amongst themselves. Thankfully, a young boy, who kept his dreams safe in his heart, rose up and defeated the Knight Mare. However, even with the Rod of the Stars returned to its place atop the Fountain of Dreams, the people still continued to quarrel. Finally, the Sages decided the only thing to be done was the split the land into many, many shards called "worlds." They dismantled the Fountain of Dreams into as many pieces, so as each world would have one for itself. They then used the power of the Rod of the Stars to make many more Rods of the Stars, one for each Fountain. However, these copies could not match the power of the original Rod, which the Sages hid in an unspecified location, so to prevent another disaster like that caused by the Knight Mare. It is said that as long as each world's Fountain and Rod are connected, the dreams of that world's inhabitants will be pleasant ones, and they should have no fear for the Darkest of All Beings.
Gutsman: So... I have to put the Star Rod back?
Duo: *shakes head* It is also said that if one who is pure and carries their dreams in their heart is to find the one true Rod of the Stars, that they will be able permanently seal the Fountains of the worlds, with the copied Rod no longer being needed to maintain the Fountains' flow. I believe that this Rod that Kirbynite has is the one true Rod. |

Zex turned to Kirbynite... she seemed uneasy. It was weird seeing her like that. She hardly shown any feeling before and now, she seemed uneasy all of a sudden for no reason? How completely weird...
Zex: "Master... do you have a second? I have some very important things to say and well... I think only you should hear about them." |

The pink creature pushes himself up and looks around.
Kirbynite: .. It seems like we didn't find more of our friends here..
Toad: Or the King.
Kirbynite: Nothing's surprising me anymore.. Not even that.. light flight... What's gonna happen now, Quint? |

Zex: "This was some kind of teleportation system. Used in most Megaman-type Dimensions. However, biological creatures rarely get to use this kind of system... most of the time, only mechanical beings can use it. Maybe this world has more advanced teleportation systems?" |

Quint grabs a remote of sorts out of Wily's pocket, then slowly stand, not looking at anybody.
Quint: Let's go.
He presses a button on the remote, and the bars of Megaman and co.'s cage slowly lower into the floor, and the met-alloy cuffs fell off. Protoman grabbed Kalinka, and the three robots jumped out of the cage to join everybody else eight feet below. Suddenly, a female voice could be heard coming from Gutsman's systems...
Fem: Gutsman, can you hear me?
Gutsman: *places a hand to the side of his head* Loud and clear, Doc.
Fem: Finally, that dampening field is down! So, what's happened? Did you defeat Dr. Wily?
Gutsman: Erm... Now's... Not a good time to talk about it.  Let's just say we rescued the hostages and leave it at that.
Fem: ... Okay... Tell everyone to stand in a group, I'm beaming you out.
And so, everyone stood together in roughly the center of the room. Next thing they knew, their bodies seemed to be both weightless and shapeless. They soared straight up, going right through the glass ceiling as if it wasn't there. They were outside now... It had stopped raining, and though the wind was blowing, it had no effect on them. They found themselves falling back toward the ground, but instead of Wily's fortress, the hovercraft was now below them. As they hit the ground, they returned to their normal form, as if nothing had happened.
JDavis: That... was... different. |

A sweatdrop rolled down Kirbynite's back as he continued to stand motionless.
Kirbynite: ... That moment of silence has been going on for quite some time now... |

Zex saw that Kirbynite was showing sympathy to Quint. She could not understand this feeling... but she had to serve her master and helping her master was her best way of serving him right now...
So, Zex approached Quint.
Zex: "Dr.Wily was one of the many souls who were affected by the plague know as "Evil" and thus, lived in constant pain... the Dark Matter amplified his power and pain. He is free, now."
Zex felt awkward... unable to feel feelings, she tried to reconfort Quint at the best of her abilities... Maybe that the knowledge that Dr.Wily was now free of his own Evil will bring reconfort to Quint? |

Kirbynite looked at the man laid out on the floor. He frowned a bit, not knowing how to react. Wily seemed like one of those evil people he'd see on tv shows, but he was still a father to someone.
Uh.. to a robot. I think.
Kirbynite: .. I'm sorry... It was for the best.. Would you prefer that he stayed inside that goopy mess? |

Now that the light had faded, the Dark Devil seemed sufficiently blinded, stumbling about for a moment.
Quint: Now, Gutsman!
Gutsman started firing star-shaped blasts at the Dark Devil, the same as he had fired at Forte. Each one sliced cleanly through it, leaving gaping holes. Quint, meanwhile, ran at a nearby wall and jumped at it, kicked off, and tackled Wily. Gutsman, catching on, fired several star-blasts at the part of the Dark Devil where Wily's legs were. As Quint and Wily fell towards the ground, the black 'goop' that made up the Dark Devil tried to cling to Wily, stretching from the top of the Dark Devil like mozzarella. However, one last star-blast from Gutsman disconnected the strand of Dark Matter. Without Wily to feed on, the Dark Devil blinked its eyes for a couple seconds, before dissolving. It wasn't exactly like it was melting.. tiny pieces of the Dark Matter were flying in every direction, making popping sounds as they did, but not making it any further than a foot from the main mass of the Dark Devil before dissipating. Finally, there was only a small mass, about a foot in diameter, of the Dark Devil left, which still had the large yellow eyes looking around fearfully. The eye blinked once before this one pieces exploded with a loud "POP!"
JDavis: Well that was easy.
Quint: Dad? Dad!?
Everyone looked over at Wily, who was not moving. His eyes were still solid white, and his mouth remained gaping open. The met hat had fallen off of his head, and lay on the ground a few feet away.
Quint: Duo! Do something!
Duo walks over and kneels next to Wily. He turns his hand into energy again, and places it in Wily's chest. After a moment, he removes it and looks at Quint.
Duo: There... is nothing I can do.
Quint: What!?
Duo: There is no life left in him. He was old, and the stress from having that much Evil Energy feeding off him was too much. I'm sorry.
Quint: *looking down at Wily* Father... |

Max grit his teeth, shielding himself with one arm. With most of the machinery beneath the Dark Matter destroyed, he obviously wasn't the only one wondering what kept the behemoth ticking. While they had foughten the huge Dark knight near the end of their stay in the Mushroom Kingdom, this one seemed to be a bit larger, and the Darkness seemed much denser and resilient than before.
He looked up, noticing Max's Darkness, ironically, piercing out from the light on top of the dome above. He blinked, gears starting to turn as he turned to face the group again. He failed to notice his doppelganger make his leave yet again.
"Keep it busy... one of us has to get Wily out of there." |
