What, that program makes it come through the sound card? I always wanted mine to work that way so I could use it as a phone.

I had this same problem. You have to disable something on your computer that is prompting it to make noice while dialing up. Dont remember what is was called though. Dan seems to have it right.

Ah yes, that's right...that is how my modem on my laptop works--it uses that program to do it... So check to see what processes are running that are similar to what dan said

Most modems are basically just phones stuck in a PCI slot. When you dial in is the sound coming from inside the computer or the speakers? If it's inside, you probably can't do much unless the modem itself has some sort of option; if it's coming from the speakers, it's probably using the Modem/Phone Line or Line In channel.

Probably this is the case but, you hear the modem sounds through the modem speaker and not the speakers of your computer right? My dad has a modem that has it's sound ported through the sound card. So, muting the modem in both volume control and modem properties is useless for me.

I got a US Robotic 56 K and no matter what I do, there is sound while connecting to the net. I cheched the ''mute'' in the sound properties, no good. In the modem properties, I used the no sound settings, no good. What can I do ?
