Yeah, there's also things like Color Management profiles to keep an eye on, like the Adobe color management, sRGB compliancy, etc. They will adjust brightness/contrast/gamma....
But yeah, I'd try the monitor on another computer and see if it does it there first. If it does, you'll likely know that it's the monitor. If it doesn't, you'll know it's sonething on the computer causing the problem. |

What kind of video card is on the computer. I know with NVidia cards, you can adjust the brightness independent of the monitor through nVidia's desktop manager |

I dunno, possibly a warranty thing too?
Does the monitor do it on other computers too? |

Yes its plugged in correctly. Other monitors dont do it. I know about the switches. the brightness and contrast are both set right. Its a new monitor. Came with the computer. |

Oh!
And is it plugged in properly?
Wiggle the connector and the cable and see if that makes a difference.
Some older monitors get funny with the connection. Or even some newer ones. And sometimes the VGA cable goes funny too. Always worth giving it a wiggle just in case. |

If it's an old school one, it should have knobs. If it's a bit newer and newer, then there should either be menus or buttons. |

Okay, does putting a different monitor on the machine make any difference?
Have you adjusted the monitor's brightness and contrast settings? There will be a menu in the monitor to do this.
Is this an old monitor?
What do you mean by "Messed Up" ? Too dark, too bright, etc? |
