Is Samus wearing the Phazon Suit, by any chance? Because the colours are identical, but you probably haven't put Phazon in, unless you make it into a Metroid Prime thing, which you haven't...

News on project:

X-Ray Goggles removed completely (they will not be attainable in the game. I decided I hate them, because it takes out any mystery to hidden puzzles.) I found out its more fun to make you use bombs to detect block type, so Akane-Chan was sorta right in his idea.

Redesign needed, in my graph, several parts turned out to be a unit size too tall, so about half of the planned areas are out of place . Fixable, but I may not be satisfied.

More screenshots by this weekend.

Some stuff posted on D.E.S. Rom hacking forum:

Super-Advanced maneuvers (boost-ball, mid-air dashes, ball-bounces) will NOT be required to complete this game. People who are able to do that will have some minor advantages:

1. Sequence breaking will be possible (and encouraged.. evil-grin goes here)
2. Shortcuts
3. A few missile packs/luxury items that are unavailable otherwise
4. Maybe an easter egg or two

I PROMISE this will not be a hack that promises a lot but never delivers. I'm busting my ass to ultra-OCD levels on this..

See you next update,

*Notices that SM knowlege is slowing disappearing *
Hard type hacks are fun! Well, that's what I usually look for. *Angry that Zero Mission and Fusion indicate where to go next. :/*

A hard type hack eh? Hmm, I don't really like 'em but we'll see how this turns out.

The thing is, power bombs in SM are not the explorative tool they are in Zero Mission and Fusion. They don't reveal block types upon explosion, unless they're 1. Normal Bomb Blocks
2. Power Bomb Blocks

You can obscure secret passages in any number of ways other than these.

The thing about the x-ray is, it was in there early so I could check around and make sure I didn't make any design mistakes (i.e. any accidental shotblocks or non-solid tiles) but then I thought about just leaving it there. It might be removed, but for now its staying.

Edit: To answer the character question, no, there isn't a new character. This isn't a story based hack (maybe later on, but not for now.) I did it because I thought a black suit looked cool. Sorry if ya don't like it...but it doesn't affect gameplay.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I disagree. I say let the guy do what he wants with his hack.

Well good luck!

Yes, you get 3 different suits, the one pictured replaces the varia suit...
the other two haven't been fully colored yet, because I haven't quite decided on their colors..

And yes, you start with the X-Ray and Grapple.

This is only what I've done so far, but I wanted to get some ideas out in the public before some one else thinks them up.

This hack will be a version of Super Metroid that is ridiculously hard and well hidden, but any decent Metroid player should be able to figure it out. There is going to be a lot of those "Now how the hell am I gonna do that?" moments in the game (but there will be PLENTY of hints, plus I'm going to include a complete Walkthrough/FAQ).

While not much has been hacked just yet, I have completely drawn out the design and made notes, because I like to be organized.

This will not be a story based hack, but a gameplay oriented one (a rather large puzzle, if you may.)

This area is obviously Brinstar, which will be seperated into 2 shafts (not unlike Metroid 1) one pink fungus (as shown) and the other the original blue Brinstar.

I hope to bring some challenges and original ideas to the Super Metroid scene, because this great game deserves it.

Any questions?
