TweakUI also can disable balloon tips.
I only see one balloon tip in XP after I activated my copy last year; and that's when I go online. It doesn't annoy me that much

his last activity was 2/15...so it might have strolled by this thread... since it has been moved now, he'll probably never see it again since it doesn't seem like he's sticking around....

It was in General Chat at first, if I remember right (and I'm pretty sure I do) Now I just wonder if pyrogore6 is ever going to come read the replies and hopefully fix his problem

balloon tips can be disabled all together by using TweakXP and disabling with it there.

I get those too, it gets really annoying. Updates and desktop cleaning tools and the like. If I wanted to update something, I would. It doesnt need to tell me EVERY TIME I turn the computer on.
Is there a way to disable them alone, or would I have to disable everything..?

the auto-update balloon tip should only appear for the Administrator group

have you even tried? i mean, security of my school's computer were very lax that you could install stuff. However, when the computer is shut down, the condition of the computer was in when it was started up that day was restored

as for balloon tips, it is something in the security center. I just turned everything off and the ballon tips stop popping up...

On the XP computer I use at school, every time I boot up, I get the "Stay current with automatic updates" (or something like that) balloon, it's so annoying. I don't care about updates, and even if I did, I wouldn't be responsible for installing them. We can't install ANYTHING on school computers without the teacher's OK.

This thread doesn't belong here... But I know what you mean. If you have Service Pack 2 installed, you'll get thousands of them. If you go into the controlpanel, there should be an icon called "security center" or something. If the ballons are about security, you can disable them there.

Edit: Oh, if I only had refreshed, I would have seen Karadur's post. Try what he says also.

You could try looking here. That's just something I found using the Help and Support thing you can get to through the start menu, and I checked the link with Firefox as well, so it should work

This thread should have been started in Hardware / Software, but it'll most likely be moved as soon as an Admin sees it.

Hopefully that helps

....is starting to really annoy me. How do you disable those annoying XP balloon tips? I get like at least 10 of them when xp starts.
