Speaking of Wow, the Eu server is at Burning Blade if you are alliance; Bladefist for the horde.

Do like me and say, Fuck it it's only a game. Go play WoW or some server that won't die unexpectantly. Yeah they just don't like people having fun playing their game for free, when they would never pay for it even if iRO was the only server. During their 3 week downtime I was thinking well whatever I'll just go do something else.

The only thing that irritates me about it is that I sat through a two hour download only to have it rendered useless only a few days later. Well, that and I lost a level 61 character, but that didn't take too much work. I wasn't on the server long enough to make any friends or anything, so to me it wasn't that much of a loss. Still sucks, but there's always other games and other servers.

At the point it got closed, i could care less to the server. But knowing that eAthena is now almost dead, pisses me off a lot .

I didn't know that's how the source was released.

I definitely think it's a really grey area because I've never heard of a case where a developer released source code, allowed people to download it and then gobbled it right back up. Doesn't fit any public licenses that I know of.

If you want to go by what's copyrighted/what isn't, then the game files themselves would be copyrighted; however, the eAthena system is totally legit if it was coded from the ground up. So short of changing every single file...
The eAthena RO Server Emulator is based off of the source code for Gravity's servers. Apparently, at one point, RO was almost dead, so Gravity released the source to the public. When the public started making RO better, by fixing the less-than-half-assed coding Gravity did, and RO became popular again, Gravity suddenly decided that all the non-Gravity servers were illegal.

So, it ends up in a mucky gray area, just like ROMs and emulation.

Yes, it likely is.

AFAIK, some ex-player ratted them out to Gravity. They were shut down.

Why they couldn't mention it in the post, I don't know, but it is.

To alot of us it is kind of like the end of the world. Alot of people played on this server and had alot of friends on it. Was one of the only games of its kind for free online, so ya, maybe the "end of world" is a little harsh, more like the end of an era.

Well, I heard that a GM from the offical RO was over at tRO and uhh... gravity knew about tRO since long time.

I saw this thread.

Can't say that I really miss tRO now, considering how bored I got on it.

And well, it is illegal in a way. They're practically offering the client on that site so... uh yeah. Server emulator or not, but they do have offical stuff for download...

Well, imagine the reaction if this board was to go down, Xk.

Although it's way different over there - they STILL have their boards/community but not tRO, YET there's hundreds of decentish public servers out there.

Yea I heard Mouse got legally pwned or something, but I never got the info about it. Makes sense though...I mean anything private anymore is eventually going to be narked on by some goody two-shoes.

Not that the person is right or anything for ratting out, but definitely going to be one of those people that are hated for all eternity when they are found (if they haven't been already).
