And the hosts file is under C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drivers\etc, unless you installed Windows on other drive than C. Open it up with notepad and add the following line.

127.0.0.1 replace.this.net

"replace.this.net" with the address musicmatch is using, and it should succefully not being able to contact it's server.

The ability to block programs should sitll be there, maybe just more hidden but... hell even Windows in-built have that feature. (althought more crappy...)

it could have been Volume Control that was involed to since Winamp amplifies the Volume control setting. (I'm not sure how musicmatch uses Volume Control)

As for preventing MusicMatch from accessing the net--if you can figure out where on the internet is going, by editing the HOSTS file on your Windows computer, you can make it point to yourown computer (that is if the computer is not using an IP address to talk).

Anyways, have you tried the Norton support site? I figure someone there has asked your question.

Sorry for being a huge pain in the ass. I recently installed Norton SystemWorks 2005 on my computer, and was wondering if there was a way to stop MusicMatch 9.0 from accessing the internet to check stuff. I use a keygen to provisionally upgrade my MMJB (Musicmatch) to Plus version, allowing me access to the equalizer. But as soon as I connect to the internet, it downgrades it back to Basic. It's being a total pain in the ass.

I think I had Norton 2004 before, and it asked me if it wanted to let MMJB access the internet, and I always conveniently said "No". Seems I don't have that luxery with Symantec2005 (that I know of)

Also, what music program do you prefer to use?
I've used Winamp, but I hated the volume controls... Seemed like 50% of the actual volume was in the first 10% of the volume bar.
