What is the limit of a "old" post? Most forums it is a 30 day limit.

I can only assume necropost means a post bringing an old topic back from the dead: ie. bumping old shit. its bad.

Hmm..I played graal about 1 week ago. It is borning a little. I can help you design the game, which I see that you guys are having trouble designing an NPC scripting. PM if your interested.

I adored Graal. I played from the Java days 'til around version 1.3.9.1 (i.e. the first version with the karma system or whatever it was, where if you PKed, you got screwed over). The thing about Graal was, the system itself was genius because you could do so very much with it. The internal programming was virtually C++, so you could make such complex and advanced NPCs. I used to create my own levels, I created an entire town and surrounding area. About 115 levels (though 28 were blank -- intended to be player houses), with about 20 unique NPCs.

Stefen Knorr, though, never put any of my levels or NPCs online. While total n00bs got their obnoxious, poorly-designed houses online, I churned out pure gold and he ignored it. I actually hosted my own server for awhile, but the maximum people we ever had online was four. I'll have to check out your server later.

You know what? Coincidentally enough, in the past few days I've been thinking about Graal a lot. I always wanted to make an offline, one-player game with it. Graal...those were the days. It's unsurprising that, like all good, wholesome things produced through the internet, Graal was eventually corrupted and went P2P.

Knorr should have just charged ten bucks per download right off the bat, then P2P wouldn't have become necessary.

P2P was worth every penny. I shelled out twenty bucks the moment it went P2P for lifetime access to the Classic servers. pwn.

edit; make sure you make TRC the graphics admin so he can upload my head. I've been asking him for years.

So, anything more planned?

Sadly GServer1.39 seems to be latest version of the server that is avaible. I found Graal 1.4 but uhh... it maybe works with GServer1.39 but I wouldn't expect that much new expect for bugfixes.

Graal looks nicer than I thought coding wise, i'm impressed with the fact that you can make your own NPC's with coding and all.

Edit: Heh, I noticed. There is a update now. Nice.

I think it only holds up to 8 people, and you have to contact Zeph to get an account. Can it hold more people now?

EDIT:
Alexa, thought you were someone else for a sec.

My gallery of fun little screenshots

As for the features... well, you can hang out with us We're working on making new levels (but of course without input from people, we won't have much of an idea.

This is an older server and doesn't support all of the things, sadly. We (Zephiris, really) are looking into finding 1.39 so we can upgrade the server, because right now there are some pretty bad lag problems with a few people.

WOAAAAAAAAHHH! No, really. It's that game probably few of you know about now that was super-fun back before it went P2P (with 400 people online at the moment; a far cry from two years ago with over 15000)

Anyway, there's a new, not-P2P server out from our old, loveable friends over at PocketHouse. All the stuff is HERE. The actual files are HERE (right click to download; AngelFire). A map of our current design status can be found in the below image.

Naturally, you're not going to have an account (after all, you'll never have played.) Since most people here have AIM, just contact me on AIM (XkeeperNaN) for one or PM me here. A few people have already been on there from here (okay, more like one) and they had... uh ... fun? So I decided to bring this here, knowing that quite a few people (Acmlm, Drag, uh... someone else, I forgot most of the screenshots now) enjoied it back in the day.

Since, as you can see in the design shot above, we have tons of unused, unplanned space, feel free to suggest things, or NPCs. I'm bored most of the day and like things to do, so here's your chance!

Now for the reason most of you will not join; I'm a full admin there. Since I'm a designer (having made several NPCs and the shop) along with Zephiris (owner of server) I got admin status (yay). If you get stuck, just open the playerlist (or get me on AIM) and PM me.

Now for some basics about this.

=====

RUN "GRAAL13.EXE". This is the client. The rest is just leftover baggage I'll clean out when I host a smaller, only-for-clients version (since quite a few things in there are, er... yeah)

After this, you should probably choose "ONE PLAYER" (not online). Pick a character from the list on the right and start a game. Play around a bit. Learn the controls. Short breakdown:

A: Lift things
S: Sword
D: Item
Q: Inventory
M: Map
DELETE (in inventory): Delete NPC weapon (danger: some aren't easy to get back!)

ALT+1: Full-Level screenshot (mostly worthless)
ALT+2: Screenshot
ALT+3: Toggle Minimap (usually broken, though if it changes to a more realistic looking one, it's working right)
ALT+4: Toggle bytetransfer number (A small "b: x" will appear in the lower right; that's incoming bytes)
ALT+5: Save Level to .graal file
ALT+6: Record movements
ALT+7: Stop Recording

F1: Options
F2: Load Game (Offline Only)
F3: Save Game (Offline Only)
F4: Editor (Offline Only)
F5: Load Level (Both, but will disconnect if used online)
F6: Debug (uh, worthless)
F7: Playerlist (It's good to keep this open)

If you like the character, go ahead and quit and select "ONE PLAYER ONLINE". If not, try again. Also note that you cannot exit the starting house in the offline mode. The levels are gone.

From here, it's pretty simple to get from point A to point B. Just read lots of signs and you should be safe. (FYI: the constant meeting place is "Reitz SSE" on the design map. It's in the huge building.)

Anyway, post if you enjoy it (or have suggestions!). I really hope more people come on, since there's usually only me or one other person online (and before you say "I'll do it when more people come online," remember that a lot of people have that additude and unless you start it, it'll always stay in this half-unfinished state and anyone who does get guts will be alone!)
