Oh I died finally...but oh so cheaply. This game is made to be played to hated and loved to be read. That's got to be a first.

9 hours and you are done with disc 1
seems like there is no point in leveling up then... because i've spent about 9 hours and I'm no farther than when I control shion for the first time...

Bump for content cuz I paid for the game cuz I'm playing cuz I'm a mod haha.

I went and bought Xenosaga II for 53.99 today on top of a DDR session over at the mall today (I kicked some ass on 8s, Holic Heavy for one, anyways...) and I just got done playing tonight.

Know why? After 9 hours I was done with Disc 1.

What...the fuck?

It's a two-disc set. Which makes me wonder if I'm -really- at the halfway point now. Sadly, I may have battled 30 or 40 times during that time...the rest was BRILLIANT BRILLIANT engaging storyline and tie-ups that I've wanted to see and some other stuff that makes me want to -read- into it more. Not necessarily play.

By the way, if you're new to the series...sucks to be you. More than likely you'll be lost, but they do flash back every so often...but it's pretty much imperative that you play the first for fear that you will be lost in a tidal wave of a story. I found myself SEVERAL times trying to remember what it was all about and who certain characters were and what their place in the storyline meant. It's almost a shame my episode 1 disc is busted. Almost.

The battle system in itself is a double-edged sword. By itself it can be a bitch to get used to and it can make some harsh battles, but if you milk it for all it's worth and get the luck you're looking for, your battles will fly. I've had anywhere from a range of 11 minutes in one battle to 42 seconds killing the same exact thing with little difference in level. It is that messed up with it's luck.

The battle loads are awful. Not HORRIBLE. Awful. The battles usually take upwards of 10 to 15 seconds to load and most times it's just waiting to get your ass ambushed by the enemies. I was pretty sure one of the bad situations I'd get into I'd end up being killed after waiting and get a Game Over screen but that didn't ever happen. :\

And as for gameplay? Think 6 hours story and 3 hours battle and you've got disc 1. Most of it was forced anyways. I tried to go out of my way for completist purposes and it's still not that great in the overall aspect.

Now, to my understanding, this is side-quest prone. And very so. But I've yet to be able to do a lot...which really makes me wonder if 9 hours is really the halfway point of a game that with the last installment took me 40 hours plus to beat and I wasn't even complete.

Oh and your complete data for episode 1 does go somewhere. I won't go into details...but fans of KOS-MOS will like it.

Started to play the game--off to a slow start (a lot of new delvelopments early on). I really don't like the map that much (i think the camera needs to be higher..) controls are about the same. The new tech system is interesting but seems complicated. All in all, I'm satisfied. I'll just have to see how the game goes since Xenosaga 1 started off the same way and got better as I continued to play it some more

Went by work to get the game. Played the opening scene (music is amazing) but that's about it. I want to at least finish KOTOR2 on light side before I start to play Xeno 2.

This is two weeks old but meh...the topic was still on the first page for me

I just got Xenosaga II. Unfortunately, I can't play it yet since I'm still at school. Anyways, did anyone else pick it up today?

It's actually five hours of total cutscenes, not three. It looks very enticing, especially with the newly designed giant robots that look very cool in comparison to the AGWS. Hopefully I can buy this and understand it, not having played the first one.

Yeah, maybe I'm wrong, but we over at the States don't seem to be missing out on "too" many games compared to what we used to.

Hell, there were Fire Emblem games for the SNES, did we get those? I think not.

Xenogears will be made, only if the sales keep going as good as they are.

We had Gears at the store, but I didn't buy it....I should have, its sold out now. Oh well, I can wait...what...7+ years for the fifth installment to be re-made?

I see.

But I really hope they do remake the original Xenogears. Either way someday I'll probably buy Xenogears off of squareenix.com considering it's only $20, I've only heard great things about the game.

If they really pull this off rightfully, this could be the best RPG series out there.

This was me fscking around in PSMplay one day and I found a TIM (graphic) file of it saying Episode 5 on it. Looked like an outro graphic.

Well according to the Gamepro and EGM reviews, they're hinting that it's "lacking" compared to the original Xenosaga "overall".

From what I've read, again they complained about the length of the cutscenes, which have been cut down from the first, but I guess there was still too much for some reviewers out there.

And they also mentioned that this game is incredibly shorter, and would probably only take about 20 hours to beat.

... All in all, I don't care. It looks too good to miss out on regardless if it's a shorter RPG.

heh..interesting... I've already pre-ordered this game back in November. I saw the Japanese trailer for it and I was like Yeah, the new look of the characters surprised me. I hope this is as enjoyable as the first one

It took me 8 months to beat the game (i finished it in 81 hours)

Just picked up the DVD from work and I plan to watch it shortly. Anya is teh happy.

Also, with the battle system, if you have certain party memebers while in battle (like Shion and Jin) they'll do a duel (double) tech and it'll cause much more damage than just a normal attack.

I was pretty sure that Xenogears was the 8th part of the series, each of the Xenosaga games leading up to it ... I guess 5th would be better, since 8 games leading up to an PSX game could take forever.

I'd also recommend checking out the newest trailers from this game at Gametrailers.com

The music seems outstanding, and by the trailers this game looks a lot more dramatic than the first. I'm still not sure why they completely changed KOS-MOS's look (other than some magazine that I read saying the creators wanted the characters to look more "realistic" she seemed fine to me).

The first one pissed me off a bit too. The gameplay was horribly lacking, the battle system was ... probably one of the most boring battle systems I've ever played. But other than that I really enjoyed the game, I even spent a few hours playing the card game alone.

Who here's going to pre-order this game? From what I heard if you pre-order it, you'll get a bonus disc with 4 hours of cutscenes from the first. (And just a note, that's only about half of the total cutscenes.) The cutscenes in the first honestly didn't bother me a bit, sure it almost felt like I was watching an anime at times ... but who's to say that's a bad thing?

All I'm worried about is the gameplay in the next one, which so far looks better. Not to mention the introduction to Jin (Katana weilding guy).

The thing is I've heard this game isn't selling too well in Japan, then again the Japanese gaming market hasn't been the best in the last couple of years. I'm still looking forward too it and wouldn't be surprised if it's the best RPG this year. (Next with Jade Empire of course, which got delayed. )
