I remember when I made a GFX hack of that pirate ROM of SMB2J just for kicks, few people e-mailed me saying it was pretty good. You can get it on my site. Maybe I should change the level palettes...

Ever play YY-SM2?

It's about the closest you'll get right now...YY basically just moved all the level data from SMB2J to SMB1, changing the stuff that SMB1 didn't support...

Blocks? There's only a few I can think of (up side down pipes, red piranahs, poison shrooms*)...

The M/L physics was done, actually, as was the poison shroom hack.

SMB is missing certain things SMB2 has, like wind, different Mario/Luigi physics, and a bunch of objects, so it'd be a pretty limited conversion. There are pirate SMB2 ROMs floating around (i.e. the pirates actually put the game on an ordinary cartridge--it was originally a Disk System game), so you could just play one of those...

I'm with Disch. It's a stupid idea from the start.

What?

What would be the point of making one game into another game? Why not just play SMB2j? I suppose you could make an IPS patch which turns SMB1 into SMB2j by using SMB2j as the "hacked" rom.

Or am I misunderstanding?

Since SMB2(j) is so close to SMB, I was thinking of making a hack that would turn SMB into SMB2(j). I know that this is probably possible, but has someone done this before. If someone's done this before, please stop me from making this and making a fool out of myself... >>
