I did not use JPEG or gif compression I used PSP8 to edit the background saved it as PCX file, I later resaved in PSP 3.11 and I used pcx2snes to make the files can someone pleeas tell me what background size I should use when I import these to Lunar Magic ?

and please don't treat me like I committed some serious felony in the SMW hacking community....
All I'm trying to do is make my own hack without any problems with just a little help.

I was thinking more along the lines of "too many colors GIF compression". But in any case, I would appreciate it if someone would remove the images (link to them), they're too big and I have to scroll sideways to read most posts.

I dunno, the pixellated look gives it a sort of distorted look, which could be kinda cool if used correctly... I mean, that would be an awesome background for an underwater level, of you ask me.

It would probably also help if the background wasn't so pixelated. I mean, geez, lol.

"in the 16x16 editor those are not repeats that is the exact size of the tiles."

Um, size doesn't matter in that case. I meant if there were more than 1 8x8 tile(s) that looked exactly the same.

You CAN NOT use sprite GFX to make a BG!

... That would be your problem... It's taking up way too much. You're gonna have to drastically reduce the complexity if you want it to work.

The gradient doesn't use that many 8x8 tiles (unless you've barely got enough room
without them). But according to the 16x16 Editor, you seem to have a lot of
repeats, at least that's what it looks like (do they at least use the same 8x8 tiles?).

Post a screenie with the 8x8 Tile Editor displayed (just copy and paste
each 8x8 Page to the pic so I can see all Eight 8x8 pages at once)

Not use such a complex background, I guess... For instance, if the color gradient from top to bottom really necessary?

This is just a hunch but I'm guessing you overwrote part of the foreground with your background. Also, why even ask if you should post a screenshot? Of course you should

Ok.... I have good news! and bad news, the good news is the backgrounds that I insert into the game turn out fine but when I insert them into the rom every background that I work with screws up the foreground images and the sprites ( the foreground has a sandy dusty look to it and its not viewable and I really don't know what the problem is... any idea what couold be going wrong with the rom or the backrgrounds ?
should I post a a screen shot of it to let you see the problem ?
