Even though that's true, there was no need to post it here. This isn't a discussion about which browser to use, it's about why a program called iexplore.exe (not necessarily IE) is running when it shouldn't be. And try to use better grammar and less caps, please.

Shut up. No, seriously. You are an idiot.

Anyway, though, do they open when you start your computer? Or do they start later? Perhaps some stupid program requires it to be open? Becuase I have none open and when I do open it* I only get one instance of it on the process list.

* I'm not so devoted to my browser of choice to reject even opening the damn thing

I do not have internet explorer running right now and I just started up my computer... maybe it is something you installed in the past (or installed right now). either that or your run once or startup settings are messed up

iexplore.exe don't appear when MSN is running even, if you can't kill it. Kill the processortree. (as long it dosen't make a big chain of closing down the system, it shouldn't be dangerous. I have been able to fuckup the system with that thing due to my own stupidity with fucking with it, but it was fixed with a quick reboot anyway )

And if something can't be removed, scan in safe mode. Some viruses and spywares aren't removable without safe mode. Due to Win XP's way to protoct thoose files... or it's just becuse they're in use. :/

That's odd, I have no iexplore processes right now.

If you're running something like Windows Messenger, that might bring one up, but other than that I doubt it.

(I know for a fact Outlook Express loads Windows Messenger for some strange, strange reason; mabye a ploy to get more people on MSN Messenger?)

---

Just kill both processes; worst happens you might have an explorer restart, but I doubt it's anything major.

I've had IEXPLORE.exe run two instances at times but I think it's a bug with the browser. You only need to have one open at all times, the other I just close out.

And scan-wise, I'm good, trust me.

DAMN IT.

I just did, and I do very frequently, because my computer is so FREAKING LAME.

That shouldn't be it. They just use IE's core files, they don't actually load the program. Might be time to do some scanning.

On Windows 2000 and XP, Internet Explorer is loaded at the boot screen (before the GUI even loads. If IE was removed, it doesn't give any error and continues). The Explorer shell in Windows 98, Me, 2000, XP, and 2003 rely on Internet Explorer.

That should account for the two instances always running.

Note: This is also the reason Microsoft recommends to get IE security patches even if you don't use IE.

I'm a bit curious as to why two of them need to be running at all times.

I looked on google, and I'm not sure if I've got something or not, becuase every other one said a different thing about it.
