Yes EZ might be taking advantage of Nintendo, but seriously Nintendo needs games that are going to attract thne crowds. I love Nintendo but the Gamecube over all has been kind of a dissapointment.

MS, is syphoning itself out of Japan, realizing that market trends there are on the downfall. The PSP, although a weak competitor, is still a competitor.

#1 rule in business: Morals mean shit, money is god. Nintendo has the hearts of gamers, EA has the money. Who is the butch and who is the bitch?

Make up your mind.

Ziff: I don't think Nintendo "sells" characters, that's a pretty asinine statement. I think that they want to have more exposure however; which would explain the recent crossbranding with EA and then Konami. (For all we know, Nintendo might have asked EA to put the characters in instead of the other way around to try sell more units. I dunno. I know that Namco and Nintendo are on pretty good terms which explained Link in SC2.) I think that it's in Nintendo's best interests to give their star characters more exposure in an attempt to attract casual gamers and fans of the characters; however, I don't think we'll see Bowser get his head ripped off in Mortal Kombat anytime soon.

What can I say...thing happen and people change
What Im saying is that like it or not its still going to be released and people will play.

Why are people arguing about this in here?

If Ziff is right, EA is going to own Nintendo whenever it wants to (literally and aliterally). Putting Nintendo characters into a basketball game isn't going to somehow magically make it possible. If EA wants to buy Nintendo and Nintendo is willing to sell, then Nintendo will be sold, basketball or not.

My personal prediction: If EA tries to buy, Nintendo will not agree to it. Nintendo doesn't seem to care about being the dominant power in the industry as long as it is getting profits.

The devil we know is one we know to be more aggressive than MS. I actually fear EA in relation to the rest of the industry.

True but then again it's better the devil you know than the devil you don't.

(Given that every big company has to deal with EA, at least they know what they're getting into.)

I've been watching industry trends for YEARS. You are all morons and fanboys when you assume that Nintendo won't sell characters. Nintendo will be sold. It will be sold for what it's worth, dirt. Nintendo is a weak corporate entity, its investors have low confidence. As companies like Tiger and Sony now try to break its only real hold on the industry they will eventually give up on it, like Square. EA would jump at the chance to get a lionshare in the Japanese market via Nintendo. They would love to be able to control the flow of some of the most beloved characters of all time. Sucks to the shitty profits that Nintendo hauls in, they can overcome that with their other divisions.

And the MS-Nintendo thing, idiot, that was a rumour. Unfortunately, EA is more aggressive than MS in its treatment of workers and its current attempts at monopolization of the third-party industry.

Here is the headlines:

World owes Nintendo hand for creating genius business model

After EA had purchased the flatering Nintendo corporation its large monetary muscle was flexed and brought the ailing company back to a forefront status against new comer Microsoft and long time rival Sony. This new Nintendo business model called stock-character acqusation has allowed for Nintendo to operate simultaneously on two fronts, third and first party. Through the use of EA funds to purchase Microsoft and Sony stock, Nintendo has effectively became the behind the scenes juggernaut of the industry.

Guess what Kyouji, all your well wishing means nothing. EA abuses workers rights, and violates industry agreements on stock purchasing. It is throwing the parity of the industry to a mess due to its agressive stance. If you don't want to use your miniscule brain, don't, but if I see a thread whining and bitching about how Nintendo has failed because of its own shitty business model when it is eventually purchase...I'll just laugh. I will laugh at everyone who has ever supported Nintendo after the SNES, I will laugh at the people yelling at me, and what is more, I'll laugh at people who lost their livelihood by investing in a bad company.

It was cool, I must say.

Ziffski: Stop with the conspiracy theories. Do we care? I say we do not. EA becomes a bigger company! Ono! They're not going to be able to buy the characters because Nintendo won't sell them for any amount. We went over this a few years ago when Microsoft tried to buy Nintendo.

Give EA a year and they can buy the NHL rights for a bag of pucks.

I think that EA's probably going to cool down on acquisitions - their move today was pretty dirty as is. They need to concentrate on the GAME division now.

(Today's move - obtaining the Arena Football League license to prevent other companies *COUGH*SEGA*COUGH* from using it.)
