DON'T turn the main brightness controll up to far or to much voltege will go to the picture tube, and it will explode  . I'm NOT kidding. It happend to my neighbor when he turned it up to much by turning it to fast, and when i saw his work room and TV  ...Well, it did'nt look so good. Anyway, you MUST be very careful. |

Be careful with that, it's probably hidden for a reason. It could likely damage the monitor if adjusted incorrectly.
And yes, be very, very careful when working with monitors or TVs. They can hold more than enough power to kill you for a very long time, even when unplugged. Make absolutely sure nothing touches any of the components unless you intend it to, and that you know precisely what you're doing. (That includes little things like sweat drops too.) One wrong move and you could be killed.  (So, for legal purposes, don't blame us if you hurt yourself.  ) |

Be careful though. The capacitors inside can be lethal, even after the monitor has been unplugged for a while (I've known modders who've been shocked even after the monitor has been idle for a year). |

Yes. It's on the side of the black rectifier, (the thing with the thick pink wire comming out of it that go's inside the picture tube, that has over 25,000 volts being caryed in the wire) with a focus controll above the Main brightness controll. And the little controlls are black. |

You mean there's a separate brightness control INSIDE the monitor?
Hmm...maybe there is hope for my parents' monitor yet. |

I found the sub brightness controll inside this screen and turned it up after clingning out all the masseve dust inside. Now it looks really GREAT!  |

Let's not forget the possibility of it having been worn out, too. It's also possible that it's simply stuck in a low display settings, which I hope you checked before. Fiddle around with the menus or buttons on the front, if any. |

Iv'e taken apart my other old Packard Bell screen before and fixed it! But i don't know how to fix a dark screen. |

My advice is to never take apart your monitor. Monitors store enough electricity to kill you. Even when it's disconnected from the power socket. Anyone who does take apart their monitors is either specially trained, or insane.

Well, it's a used screen . Anyway, It's a Packard Bell 1020, made in Feb 1996 (kinda old huh?  ), It go's upto 1024x768 60hzs or 800x600 75hzs (i'm using 800x600 right now!). Looks great but it's a bit dark, even with the contrest and brightness all the way up. Know a way i can fix it? Thats ok if i have to take it apart to do so . |
