I think the problem with hacks that have ripped graphics is that you're distributing them to the romhacking crowd. In order to hack a rom you might have to, I don't know, know a little bit about games.
If I already know where the graphics came from and have seen them before, they aren't nearly as interesting to me as hand-drawn graphics are.
But rips can look better than hand-drawn graphics while being less work. It's kind of hard to find excuses not to take the lazy way out and grab a couple of graphics from your favorite game.
I guess ripping could also be considered bad because you're taking stuff an artist's already created to make your own work.
But if you're hacking SMW in the first place, are you not ripping from a game already? |

I added in the credits who was to be thanked for the graphics I used. Which if the graphics are from someone else's hack, which are just graphics from another Nintendo game, then it's not stealing from another person's hack, it's stealing from Nintendo. |

Ripping to me seems kind of lazy, but maybe I should lighten up a bit. Some graphics out there are pretty cool...I just hate seeing the same ones used over and over again. Wait, that's what bothers me. Not the ripping...but the repition of graphics.

My philosophy concerning ripping from hack's is this:
If they use my stuff better than me, good for them. If not, what the hell am I losing? |

Wait, what? How is stealing from a professional (ripping from a commercial game) better than stealing from an ameteur (ripping from someone's hack)? |

Ripping, if done well, sits on about the same level as hand drawn graphics. I only draw my own graphics because I enjoy doing it. |

Who cares if they rip graphics from different games. As long as they don't rip from someone elses hack or try to call the stuff they ripped there own design, then I don't see a problem. |

Well, I am no artist nor do I plan to be. I basically just made this hack to see what my options were in Lunar Magic. I hate drawing, so that is definitly out of the question. So therefor I rip stuff from Super Mario All Stars, and most recently Yoshi's Island, and Super Metroid. I wouldn't consider myself a "N00B" any more, and I think you'll agree with that when Ice Man and I release our next hack together  |

I only can agree with Knuck, because not everybody can draw his own GFX, so it's better if I rip the GFX and he makes the levels, because we are working together on his 2nd hack and he hasn't such a knowledge like some of you guyz and about Aioria, he only wants to help him and give him some tips.
I'm not a mod or admin, but please stay on the topic and don't make Aioria feels bad only why he can't speak English well!
We want to have a good time here and not fight each other, right? |

I don't see a problem with ripping.
Not everyone can make GFX from scratch.
It's not because you people are tired of some GFXs in SMW, that ripping is the worse thing ever.
What i think? I think he should rip and only try to make his own graphics if he really wants, not because of other people telling him to. |
